That could be because rap as compared to rock is a genre that is centred more more on lyrical prowess. I think the fact that most rappers write and compose their own music is something that deserves respect and for them to be recognised as artists in their own right. No one genre in music is better than the other and both rap and rock are great to listen to. I'm not trying to pick an argument just thought i might even things out.
