    Parking help features are nice, but it's more for people who can't drive really sorry to say that. I drive the biggest 2007 crafter for my work, and never had a problem even in the tightest places getting it parked, without any sensors or camera.

    The new crafter is stunning, expensive, but stunning. The extra long wheel base is going to be highly desired by the Vanlife community, or at least would be had the made the absolute internal minimum width no less than 1800mm not 1780mm, or in other words exactly 6ft.
    Still haven't found if they do a air suspension, especially for the extra long wheel base with 4Motion, as the ability to raise the height off road would be a major plus.

    Volkswagen did a great job with the in-house development of the new Crafter! I really like this passenger car like look! I also think that the plenty of safety options are remarkable and wise!! Even for cars in the commercial segment.
    I hope there will be more reviews on commercial vehicles on this channel! Great job as always!

    First - Many thanks Thomas, for a really great Review. I very much enjoyed the detail and display of the "Trailer Assist" - very good videoing there. Also the demo of the audio side-warnings on the "ParkPilot". It's really great you do your Full Reviews on vans! I love a van. I like this one - but admittedly I think my favourite van is still a T5/T6 auto-trans LWB Hi-Top: looks nice, comfy, great ride, compact width (and mirrors!) makes it relaxing to drive!

    Hi Thomas, like always, very interesting review about this car! Great place, beautiful nature and mountains! Thank you for putting us always online and up to date of what is going on in every sector in the automobile world! Nice specs for this car, it looks better to drive it than driving a Golf-II for example, due to the improvement of this sector after all those years! :)

    Something different, but appreciated! Nice review and imo very interesting to watch. It's a commercial vehicle, but there are so many options available, just like the heated steering wheel. Also the dashboard is made from nice materials and so on. Awesome as usual Thomas and the autogefuhl crew! :D

  • @fitafter5020
    @fitafter5020 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This video was interesting, I have driven vans for 30 years and usually when they try to make it feel like a car to drive then this is when it all goes wrong! It's not a car it's a light truck and I have driven a few trucks that are amazingly comfortable to drive, the reason for this is because they didn't try to make it feel like a car and everything was in the right place, for me I'm not a fan of an upright steering wheel it makes my arms ache especially on long motorway journeys, if you go back 2 models to the old shape sprinter this was nice to drive and this was especially because they built it like a truck not a car, the steering wheel was almost flat pure bliss...I think we'll never see that design again unfortunately, the old sprinter is still popular today and probably for that reason
    The Ford transit was really nice to drive again I'm going back 2 models sort of 2007 era and this was partly because the steering wheel was very flat, easier to steer with more control no awkward shuffling, nice and relaxing on long haul trips with very little arm fatigue which is very important, I would say based on driving quality alone the transit of 2007 era was the best van ever to drive on a long trip, also the Vauxhall Vivaro was also very good, they both drive nicely empty or loaded and very often empty vans wonder all over the road due to their suspension configuration, they work best when loaded makes sense I suppose but not necessarily ideal...
    I notice Thomas that you looked awkward with the steering driving that Crafter and you didn't drive it very far so not really a good test for driver fatigue, this was a review for the weekend van driver and not a professional operator, what model was it? I think you said 177hp front or rear wheel drive? What model? long medium, short, wheel base? I'll go with medium, was it Trendline? Which model is best to drive? 140hp ...177hp?... In my experience higher power vans are sometimes horrible to drive because the gears aren't tall enough and very often the ratios are the same for various power outputs which doesn't make sense, especially with modern high torque diesel engines, what was the spec of your test van? what were the options on that model? you mentioned the steering wheel, was the cargo floor standard or optional
    Always best to start with a break down of the model then people know exactly what they are looking at...
    Also the gear shift looks notchy! I think I would consider a test drive in an automatic, trust me if you're driving a van all day something like notchy gear changes will drive you to insanity!
    One other thing I should point out, the metal check strap on the rear doors was carried over from the sprinter, it was a bad design and often fails prematurely, the brackets fixed to the body that retains the check strap often come loose and snap off altogether! Also when using them regularly when doing deliveries they are awkward especially when working with a sense of urgency when your busy, often you would open the door and due to the limited opening angle the door can bounce back and hit you in the head or it just wont stay in the open position and closes on you when you are carrying something! Argh!! So I'm very surprised that they carried over that design unless of course they improved it, it certainly needed improving!
    Overall the van looks nice and well built though and it reminds me of my old Reflex silver T5 which was very well built also, I am driving a sprinter at the moment which is great but the build quality of VW is better, especially the galvanised body with zero corrosion or at least that was my experience, in summary as a professional van driver I feel it's always a bad idea to make a van feel like a car, just make it feel like a good van, after all that's what it is! it's never going to be a car in any respect even with all the fancy extra's, if you don't like driving vans on the weekend then go get a trailer or something or a large SUV, I fail to see why a manufacturer would build a van to suit a car driver?? No disrespect it just doesn't add up as most vans are sold to businesses for commercial use, it's a tool not a toy, I need comfort and I mean I want seats to protect my back, properly designed and I don't necessarily need air con or a fancy stereo, I need a supremely comfortable driving position I just can't over state the importance of that, driver fatigue is a real problem driving vans all day long for a living, I have walked away from so many vans that are expensive built by market leading brands that are just uncomfortable to drive, I hope the Crafter is different and I will look forward to testing it for myself.

      Yes, thanks Thomas - I think your camera angles on your Reviews looking forward showing us as much of the instruments and steering wheel as possible, and the road ahead - are really great! Sometimes we get a view in a door mirror too - which is a real bonus and this sometimes shows "Side Assist" warnings... All these details are fantastic for car - and driving - enthusiasts! We also see the countryside! Keep up the good work.

    Brilliant review as ever from Autogefühl and Thomas. It was 48 minutes long and I watched it all but I don't remember hearing any mention of width although you covered height and length. The new Crafter will be trying to get VW in to the Motorhome Market to compete against the Ducato and Master and while it looks to have lost its lofty appearance confirmation would have been good. I never heard anything about servicing intervals either which is also important information for potential buyers. It's not a complaint though, Autogefühl reviews are the best out there, especially Thomas'. Well done.

      Thomas, I watched your link so now I have watched almost 90 minutes of Autogefühl VW Crafter videos and I still don't know how wide it is. I'd like to know for converting into a camping car/motorhome/Wohnmobil the previous generation was 200mm narrower than a Ducato and Master and that's a lot of space to lose when there isn't that much of it. The new Crafter looks wider but I'll have to wait until I can get specs. Thanks.
      Still your joke made it worth watching.
      "Emergency emergency there is an urgent Autogefühl report here". lol.

  • @southhillfarm2795
    @southhillfarm2795 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for an English review.. Its unfortunate VW does not sell vans in Canada. Its difficult to get diesel vans in Canada because manufacturers have decided that they cannot separate Canada from the American market even though we buy much different cars than the U.S. Canadians buy more fuel efficient and smaller cars than Americans do which is why this van would be ideal. We now have the new Mercedes Vito ( which we call Metris) as well as the Ram Promaster ( Ducato) and of course the Ford Transit. But non of these vans come with standard transmission.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      true. Maybe there are some importer companies ?

    • @southhillfarm2795
      @southhillfarm2795 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not worth the trouble since a van is not worth the extra fees that an importer may place on a product that may not be serviceable by a dealer. The vans we are starting to get in North America now will place pressure on all the manufacturers to sell vans that will be more fuel efficient. VW has the upper hand but they have never been good at selling vans in North America in the last 20 years. They used to sell the transporter cargo van diesel in Canada over 20 years ago and gave up since I guess the volume was too low. But they sold quite a few in Canada based on what I saw on the road. I think it is simply laziness on the part of the dealers and the North American distributor.

    great review thomas. i was curious as to why there would be timber flooring in the rear and not for instance a rugged steel or heavy duty thick plastic covering, considering this would be used mainly to deliver pallets and boxes of goods. i would think the timber floor would not last long in this environment, but perhaps its designed this way so that the owner can then configure it to their requirements.

    I drive a van for work. (iveco daily) and I really like sitting high. gives a better view. but I must say. my colleague just got the new daily. and it doesn't turn as well.. and the standard mirrors are shit..
    And they for some reason mountet the reverse beeper inside the cab... now that's annoying

    and more than often I find bigger vans easier to drive than small cars.

    I find it strange that you call the speed readout a tachometer, I've heard that in several videos

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fekillix check dictionary:)

    • @Fekillix
      @Fekillix 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it is not common to differentiate between them in German? I suppose both tacho and speedo mean the same, but typically are distinguished.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fekillix whats the difference?

    • @Fekillix
      @Fekillix 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** One is commonly associated with the tachometer (see, my brain fills it in) as being used for shoving engine RPM, whilst the speedometer typically used for vehicle speed. :)

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm i thought that was RPM meter

      I'm sure there are going to be camper conversions but of course one could always build their own camper out of one of these. Actually if I had too much time (and money :P) I would probably do that.

      this would be a serious competitor. too bad they do not send it to america. but you probably know that until recently, sprinter and crafter were twins, same product under two different names. I still expect them to be quite similar.
