    I should have said that Dr David Livingstone had no Formal Education. He started working in the local mill around the age of 10 and did not go to school, but he did have some basis lessons, which were provided by the mill owner…However, these were only available after he’d completed an up to 12 hour work shift on the factory floor…most child workers were too exhausted to take up these free lessons. There were also books at home which he devoured once he had learnt to read

    My Ggggf was Thomas Potters, an X slave who founded Freetown and also had his part in ending slavery.
    I also keep a slave bracelet on my bedside table as a reminder.

    Africa Blood and Guts 1966 is a great documentary to watch if you want to see what happened to the descendants of the slave traders in Zanzibar when the British left.

    I find the whole slave trade thing so depressing and a horrible part of history, which still prevails today in attitudes toward others. Fascinating vlog btw. 😎

      Thanks Damian and I agree. I can’t imagine it’ll even be eradicated, but I hope those with the power to do so will start to address the problem as it is today

    That's history for sure. West African slaves were smuggled into the USA, shamefully, right up until our Civil War. ^5 to the Royal Navy for inderdicting some of the trade! That ankle bracelet needs to go somewhere the story can be told. Maybe it'll help make a dent in the slave trade still going on in some parts of the world.

      The fact that 40 million are enslaved today, but it’s brushed over is something that future generations will ask questions about I think

    On the eve of Central Digitalized Currency, it might be more relevant to examine to correlation between taxation and personal freedom.

      How ridiculous. It’s history and we should explore history, listen to it, learn from it and improve. There are 40 million people living in slavery today, but you probably think it’s best not to speak about such things

      because there were no slaves in north africa, let alone slaves freed by the europeans? who instead stole african natural reources and progress?

    • @DavidHarperAntiques
      @DavidHarperAntiques  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@victor_rybin Not true. There are still slaves in North Africa. Even slave markets. Of course the Barbary Pirates (slave traders) were from North Africa too. Shouldn’t we be trying to free the 40 million in slavery today?
