I LOVE the idea of the clear pipes! You can add so many unique elements with such an iconic symbol within the Mario franchise. And I'm so happy you can play as Peach! This is definitely a day one purchase for me!
The competitive mechanics of getting the highest score is fun, and even if there were achievements (or points) for movement finesse or how fast a player completes a section/stage, it would be fantastic to see features that promoted more cooperative gameplay (aside from assisting in the defeat of an enemy).
As much as I love the open world in Super Mario 64-Super Mario Galaxy 2, I also love the 3d world that plays like a 2d Mario game even better by a little more. I don't have a wii u at the moment but I can't wait to get one and play this game!
The setting of Super Mario Galaxy isn't what made it so grand, but it certainly helped. The dynamic gameplay and features made Galaxy a revolutionary experience and made Mario take ten steps forward from the usual mainstream games. 3D World is going back to what we've seen, taking very little risks. There aren't any major gameplay mechanics that 3D Mario games are known for introducing which worries many fans that Nintendo is limiting the creativity and excitement that 3D Mario games bring.
A little weird that he makes it sound like you can always freely move the camera, when the game limits you a lot on it. As far as being the culmination of all the good stuff from 3D Mario, distilled into a classic Mario format, he ain't wrong.
I'm not talking about the first Mario bros game. I'm talking about number 3 and Mario world where you switch turns every time someone dies or finishes the level. I'm guessing you never really played the old school games much or just don't remember them.
as someone that loves to play games with multiple friends, this game gets me SUPER pumped. i never though i would see a two player 3d mario game, let alone 4! december can't come soon enough
They could do small things like adding small cracks on the glass or splashes of water or dirt on Mario's suit. It looks beautiful but they could do more with the Wii U's power.
I was thinking something more like Manta Ray Mario, or Ray Mario. a power up specifically for underwater levels. As Ray Mario, you can glide through water, much faster, pop bubbles/enemies w/ your barb, & dig up coins & collectables in the seabed. Manta Ray's have been a recurring theme in 3D Mario games. In 64 you had to swim through it's 5 loops to get a star. In Galaxy, there was ray surfing. So why not be able to turn into one. Mario would look weirder than ever as well.
Him saying the game is gonna be "The grand culmination of all the best ideas in the past 3D Mario games" is a pretty bold statement and frankly the game IS burrowing from past 3D Mario games. Iwata himself said "The fact of the matter is that we’ve been here constantly. We’ve been betraying people’s expectations, in a good way, for a long time." This game can possibly be as much of a bomb as Galaxy 2 was when people doubted Nintendo on that game.
I'm pretty sure toad is this way for this game because back in Super Mario Bros. 2, that is exactly how he played. All the playable characters in this game match how they worked in that game.
SM64/Sunshine had multiple paths to end, so did Galaxy. This may basically be an extension of 3D Land, but it isn't the same game; do you honestly think Nintendo doesn't realize that 3D World is going to be on a home console? When making Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, they made a mode more suitable to a portable platform; they can tell when a game needs to be more expansive and made a bigger deal of, so I don't see why everyone thinks this is going to be so much worse.
The Wii U has voice chat feature, but it only works if the game supports it. Hopefully this game gets online multiplayer and use the voice chat feature
I hope you can move the camera using the right-stick. I also hope you can play using a Pro Controller, and that the game gets a hub like previous titles before Super Mario Galaxy 2.
Cat Mario interested me the most. I like this Mario game so much! I also remember getting this for Christmas 2014 with this game pre-downloaded to my Deluxe Set Wii U
I'm talking about more of an open-world feel like SM64 and Sunshine. If this is like 3D Land then most of the levels are going to be linear where the main goal is to just get to the end and collect some green stars along the way. Of course there are going to be secret areas and multiple paths to the end, but that's not what I want personally.
Its because the main concept of 3D Land, besides the 3D, was to fuse 2D Mario elements into 3D Mario, which was otherwise what Miyamoto's original intention was before he ended up with the Open world Super Mario 64
You can notice, by the way that he said, that this game is sort of a "best" of all the Mario 3D games features, so it's kinda implicit that a new kind of Mario game is on the way. I mean, this game is a compilation of all the good things that Mario 3D games has to offer, and it'll be release just to make enough time to they develop a brand new thing, like Super Mario Galaxy (which I don't think it will be a Super Mario Galaxy 3). C'mon, it's Nintendo that we're talking about...
You should keep the pipes transparent but also with a color, for make em look better, Those kind of glass pipes make lose the concept of Mario, make green, orange, yellow, blue, red... which ever colored glass pipes :)
Well put it this way. Seeing as when Nintendo said "New 3D Mario game for Wii U to be announced at E3." Everyone who heard it knew exactly what they meant (Free roaming movement rather than stereoscopic 3D) and weren't going around asking "How are they going to do that? Will the Wii U have a 3D slider in the future?" I figure your "average joe's" will be far and in between. Even IF there is a misunderstanding, a quick "3D as in free roaming" explanation is a quick fix.
Mp is most commonly used as the acronym for magic points in rpg's, and I have never seen it used as multi-player before. Is it really to hard to type in multi-player especially if there is already a more commonly used acronym that is being used.
I haven't been a fan of a Mario game since.....Mario 64. That was the last true "WOW this is so damn fun" experience for me. This looks like it might bring that back. LOVE the massive, colorful world, and the cat suit?! Yes please.
This looks really fun. Back when I was in 5th grade. Someone told me that a 3d mario game was coming out. This is kind of how I imagined it. I can't wait to see it in action
I do like the forgiveness of when a player is off-screen their character respawns them so they aren't left behind. What I would like to see are puzzles and other challenges that require teamwork. In essence this would create nostalgia of the Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga gameplay where one character has to do something so the team can progress; however, instead of single player it would be multiplayer and each player would control only one character.
Using 4 game pads, when we play racing o cars games, they can play looking their game pads, and the tv turned off. or using the tv turning on, but the tv would shows all the race for the rest of the family in amazing angles like the film "days of thunder". YOU must to fix the console, and let us play with the four game pads.
That's NEW Super Mario Bros. 2. He was talking about the original New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES, called Super Mario USA in Japan, not to be confused with Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, also called Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan.
I know it is too early to say this will play just like 3D Land and while the game does look fun, beautiful, and amazing. I really hope we get back to "classic" 3D Mario after this game.
So if they had 3D World in mind during development of 3D Land, then was that picture with Peach in a Raccoon Suit in 3D Land some kind of foreshadowing?
If you are playing 2 players and are not using the gamepad, then which player dictates camera controls? I was wondering, because if two people are controlling the camera movements simultaneously, wouldn't there be some friction as both plays vying for camera controls would compromise visual equilibrium
1) Well, looks like the cast from Super Mario Bros. 2 is back in full swing. 2) All the players appear to share the lives… Good, no more of your friends murdering you. 3) Aw, Peach gets half the benefit of a Tanooki Suit without one! At least now we know she's not captured this time around. 4) Cat Mario… Is anyone else bothered by that name because of a certain fangame? 5) If there's one thing that was missing from 3D Land, it was Yoshi. Come on, let's bring him and his SMW variants back!
How do you know you can't explore the vast worlds in this game as well? Time limits can be breached... they've had those time-restoring clocks in Mario games for a while now. It certainly won't deter my curiosity! Also, the "health" mechanic wasn't very smart. It makes more sense (AND adds more difficultly, which is something people beg for in a Mario game) to have them rely on the hit system that's been in place since almost the beginning.
That's true, and EADTokyo has made iterations of their successes before and they've done just as well if not better than the originals, like with Galaxy. They made the first, then improved it with the second, and then they made 3D Land, which is a new thing, and now they're improving it with a second iteration. Only time will tell, but I think something great is cooking over in the Nintendo offices right now.
the world would have the same concept with water and the bosses will still require you to spray them it would be like galaxy to galaxy2 and the second didnt sell as well
I'm just glad Nintendo's finally making a Mario game where Peach hasn't been kidnapped by Bowser and the Koopalings aren't the mini-bosses. Feels like it's been such a long time since Nintendo really changed up the formula; I seriously hope they do that more often, because to me it feels like Mario's been in kind of a rut recently.
Here's what I'm thinking. Mario's 30th Anniversary is coming up in two years. So that would mean this is probably here to hold us over until the next big Mario sandbox adventure. I'm getting this game. It looks wonderful and fun.
i have a feeling that theres going to be a level with a lot of chain chomps (the cat/dog thing) seeing as they are pretty much the dogs in the mario universe just saying this cause they bark im also very surprised they havent made a chain chomp mario i mean imagine a chain chomp with a red hat, marios nose, marios mustache, etc on a chain chomp
When I saw the Playable Charathers, I got excited. It's the same as SMB2. And the game itself looks so god damn fun. But the one thing I'm confused about: WILL BOWSER BE THE LAST BOSS OR NOT?
I completely agree. 3D Land should have been a one-off, or if not, they should have kept that style to the 3DS, and given us another big, less linear, collectathon game. (A great idea I heard once would be Mario on like a pirate ship, and he has to go island to island to get stars or shines or something... come to think of it, that could be a really good sunshine sequel...)
The new trailer looks a lot better than Sunshine level design wise Galaxy IDK about that one it looks better but the level design in that game is better.
I'm really excited for this one, it seems like they took everything good from all of the 3D Mario games, and just put them all together! I love to see what Nintendo is up to, and they're line-up for this year is great!
it's really awesome :O great music, game-play, battle scenes and extra (street-pass) stuff. it also allows u to share ur speed runs via Street-pass so it's competitive too :D
go to the Mario wiki and search it until you find 3d land's beta element section. not only did they change the much better looking levels. but they also took out a ton of stuff! you don't believe me, check it out yourself. and while you are at it. look for super mario galaxy 1's beta elements section. same thing applies.
Well, if you want to play like that, then just play in 1-player mode and switch off whenever somebody dies or finishes a level. You don't need a whole separate mode, just a little creative thinking.
@5:25, incorrect. This game isn't a culmination of the 3D Mario games, because it's not in any way like Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy or Galaxy 2. This is what the type of game fans were expecting, not New Super Mario Brothers U 3D World.
Well, Bowser is the main villain. Goombas everywhere, Bowser's icon appearing when you die, or before the demo's boss... That's pretty much confirmed :p
I think Yoshi will be in this as a power-up of some sort. You can notice an orange Yoshi-looking thing in the trailer. Perhaps we will get to see new species of Yoshis.
I am not saying that Super Mario 3D World does or doesn't do this, because I wouldn't know. I would like to see this though and if it is in the game perhaps a trailer showcasing cooperative gameplay features would be fantastic. :) (Sorry for the multiple comments. It wouldn't let me make one large comment.)
I DID watch it, and I did PLAY it at E3. The games I mentioned have 'open worlds', not a closed fixed path world as seen in Mario 3D Land & Mario 3D World. So I wouldn't say this game is similar to the original 3D Mario games, it has many more similarities to New Super Mario Brothers & Super Mario 3D Land than it does with Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. I'll still be getting the game, I'm not a hater, I just found that statement to be horribly inaccurate.
Dear Nintendo I don't know if the other Super Mario Players miss the best feature of all the time but I REALLY DO ! The BEST "MINIGAME" missing is the 1 vs 1 "Star Hunter" Multiplayer !!!! This is one of those features that I hope to see on the new Super Mario Games or in a Update. MrLumayato
Do you absolutely NEED a Wii U to play the games for it like NSMBU and this? Or can you just own a Wii and not use the special features available with the Wii U? This looks like a fun game and I'd be interested in getting it (and a couple other Wii U games) if I didn't also have to buy a Wii U.
i hope this game will have online co op on this game to. and thay need to make the level more easyer and i mean very easy bc thay have to think of the younger gamers. we pros could use a 5 year break anyways. like the new ones have a shot at this game
HEY EVERYONE! Apparently, Pikmin 3, despite not having online multiplayer, is going to have online leaderboards! This is fantastic news because it makes me hopeful they'll do the same for this game, considering how competing for the best score is kind of a highlight in this game!
But you have to admit, 3D Land was AMAZING, and it was not like other 2D Mario games. Then factor in the fact that we now have the hectic multiplayer capabilities from NSMB Wii and U, then this is actually pretty new, not something old and used. Furthermore, they're bringing back the differing abilities from SMB 2, which is going to bring something new to the multiplayer, over that in NSMB Wii and U.
I love nintendo. I grew up playing with its games. I'm a father now, and I have 2 Kids. Because of that, I don't wanna buy a Play Station 4 neither a Xbox One. Those consoles doesn't support many games for children. However, I must to say: If nintendo Wii U doesn't soport 4 gamepads with screen .... I will not buy a Nintendo Wii u neither. Please.... Fix the new console, and let us play with 4 gamepads... If wii U work with the 4 game pads ...do you imagine the power of the games?
You should really play Super Mario 64 and Sunshine again; the stages in those games were by no means "gigantic." Every stage in 64 felt like a dollhouse, with raised edges, like a bowl. I mean, I have nothing against it, because that's the format of the game. I'm fine with these games living within their own mechanics, because none of them are supposed to resemble the other. The reason Nintendo doesn't want to rekindle their ways of old is because they prefer innovation. This is Mario, today.
A lot of people, including myself, were a bit disappointed when this was announced. We wanted something more grand than Galaxy. Although this game looks great and fun, it's essentially the same thing we've been getting for the past 8 years
Where? Even if it is, it looks more interesting than 3d land. 4 player co-op in a 3d mario game. Its not sunshine or 64 but it will still be well designed and probably really fun to play with people. Eventually maybe we will get one like sunshine or 64 *which I really hope*
what about the power ups from super Mario galaxy, such as the spring mushroom, the rock mushroom, or the cloud flower?
Reminder that not everyone in the game can star spin (Rosalina can)
Sam Goin' Ham
It wasn't called a spring mushroom, It was just a spring.
That was 14 years ago.
I love Nintendo games😊😊😊😊😊

WHAT! nintendo your 3d mario GAMES ARE NOT FAILING I LIKE EM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE the idea of the clear pipes! You can add so many unique elements with such an iconic symbol within the Mario franchise.

You’ve come a loong way, my man!
@@chucke.cheese2212 Looking back almost a decade ago, this is unreal.

Games like Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion made my childhood. I want another Mario game with a plot like that.
Dude, did you even WATCH the gameplay footage shown? It clearly IS a culmination of all the greatness Mario's given us the past 20+ years.
The setting of Super Mario Galaxy isn't what made it so grand, but it certainly helped. The cat power up will be pretty OP when it comes to beating stages. And Mario's cat form looks like my cat who is having his birthday today.
A little weird that he makes it sound like you can always freely move the camera, when the game limits you a lot on it.

It is very good that you get Points when you get the flagpole-1UP.
as someone that loves to play games with multiple friends, this game gets me SUPER pumped. i never though i would see a two player 3d mario game, let alone 4! december can't come soon enough
Catchy music stuck in my head now lol. Been getting around work humming it.
They could do small things like adding small cracks on the glass or splashes of water or dirt on Mario's suit. It looks beautiful but they could do more with the Wii U's power.
i think they said you could during an interview on the show floor, might want to look it up though
The Wii U has voice chat feature, but it only works if the game supports it. Hopefully this game gets online multiplayer and use the voice chat feature
Why all the dislikes? I agree with you! I have more fun with friends around me than just hearing their voice through a microphone.
You just blew my mind. I always thought that this picture felt out of place.
I hope you can move the camera using the right-stick. I also hope you can play using a Pro Controller, and that the game gets a hub like previous titles before Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I think using Blue Toad is a reference to the Famicom/NES version of Super Mario 2 (US).
It marks the 25th anniversary for Super Mario Bros 2.
How do you still fully control the character when you stop a wheel or hold an enemy?
When I saw the Playable Charathers, I got excited. It's the same as SMB2. And the game itself looks so god damn fun.

I am not saying that Super Mario 3D World does or doesn't do this, because I wouldn't know. I would like to see this though and if it is in the game perhaps a trailer showcasing cooperative gameplay features would be fantastic. :)
(Sorry for the multiple comments. It wouldn't let me make one large comment.)
@BoonceTV NO, IT'S SUPER MARIO GALAXY 1 & 2
I wasn't just talking about 3D Mario. I was talking about all games, in general.
Dear Nintendo
I don't know if the other Super Mario Players miss the best feature of all the time but I REALLY DO !
The BEST "MINIGAME" missing is the 1 vs 1 "Star Hunter" Multiplayer !!!!
This is one of those features that I hope to see on the new Super Mario Games or in a Update.
MrLumayato
I would like Super Mario Sunshine 2 or a reboot of the original with HD graphics and additional missions like in Super Mario 64 DS.
Do you absolutely NEED a Wii U to play the games for it like NSMBU and this? Or can you just own a Wii and not use the special features available with the Wii U? This looks like a fun game and I'd be interested in getting it (and a couple other Wii U games) if I didn't also have to buy a Wii U.
you got a point, i mean if they're running okay, but if they're walking or jumping then it's unnecessary.
i hope this game will have online co op on this game to. and thay need to make the level more easyer and i mean very easy bc thay have to think of the younger gamers. we pros could use a 5 year break anyways. like the new ones have a shot at this game
HEY EVERYONE! Apparently, Pikmin 3, despite not having online multiplayer, is going to have online leaderboards! This is fantastic news because it makes me hopeful they'll do the same for this game, considering how competing for the best score is kind of a highlight in this game!
in super mario bros 2, toad was blue and was also the fastest character, so yeah... pretty sure thats it...
which should i get 3DS or wii U they look like very good gaming systems with a good library of games but just don't know what to get.
But Yoshi, on Mario first line games, is a vehicle, not a character.
Bowser maybe?
i wish they brough back the triple jump and back flip and make the long jump longer
Games like this is why I got a Wii U.
Ok at first i wasn't too excited about this game but this video definitely changed my mind but i still want a 3d mario with an actual "story line"
It has cats plus Luigi making this game automatically awesome! :)
And I can name all the good games, Super Mario Bros U, Zobie U, Game ad Wario, scribblenauts, Nintendo Land, Injustice the list goes on.
The best part is that Peach is actually helping.
I wasn't like Nintendo saw the Lost World trailer and added in cat mario 3 days later in time for e3
