My understanding was that planting the trees was the easy part - tending to their needs until they become established is what takes time, money and effort. There's been instances where X thousand trees have been promised by developers, they've planted the requisite number and then been obliged to come back a few years later to re-do the job because half the initial planting died.

You're absolutely right! Planting trees is just the first step. Taking care of them and ensuring their survival is a whole different challenge. It's important for developers to understand the long-term commitment involved in tree-planting projects.
      Thanks for your comment!

Interesting stuff. I guess the ultimate question is will it work? I’ve seen spotty results from some of these projects but hopefully we’re close to a break through

Yeah it's a good question, but we're hopeful! Which results are you referring to? Thanks for joining the conversation 👍 //the Symbiosis crew

In places that are both hard to get to and, dangerous places --yes.
    Otherwise no.
    1) Many people enjoy tree planting.
    2) People can being more expertise and discernment than a robot can.
Additional considerations would be rainwater harvesting, best placement, etc
The AI we are making is psychopathic.

Great example with highlighting the safety aspect for humans. Indeed robots are more practical in dangerous places.
And regarding your two other notes:
      1. But couldn't tree planting could still be enjoyed together with a robot?
      2. Interesting, what expertise and discernment are you referring to?

Things like slope, and whether rainwater catchments like zai pits, etc that may need to accompany trees. Sometimes a person can figure if one type of plant may be better than another as some plants are either broadly or with specificity allelopathic to other plants are a few thoughts.

Wow, those look terrible. Humans do it so much faster and if they're volunteers they don't cost much. If you want a mechanical device to help with tree planting, there's the mechanical tree-planter, a tractor implement. Somebody sits in the saddle and drops a seedling into the groove that's been cut into the earth. Another person walks behind and tamps down the earth. That works for a clear field; for rough terrain, nothing beats a stout man with a shovel.

Perhaps you're right, but your solution does not scale like a technological solution can!

Diversity matters. A variety of native trees, bushes, flowers and grasses need to be planted.
The planting needs to be varied and not planted in straight lines.

You're 100% right! Polyculture (many species) > Monoculture (one species). The majority of these robots promote polyculture tree planting.

I like the idea of planting more tree's. However I want to see much more like landscaping design on top of that.

If they had 1 day every year where every person in every capable county planted 2 tress. If the government supplied the tree to pland and gave us a digital map( not paper) where the trees need to be planted. Thats all it would take in my opinion. No one would work that day and goverenment would make it worth while somehow to promote this day. Every work place would pay like a holiday but to get paid for holiday one would have to follow goverment supplied app to destination to plant trees. So family of 4 would plant a mezzly 8 tress. This is really doable guys

can you please tell me the name of the robot

  • @TeamBevontation

I don’t think planting robots will fully replace human planters. There’s just land that’s wayyy too technical for them to efficiently plant. So the robots will probably end up getting all the nice flat creamy land, while the rest of us get to work the shnarby mountains.
Hope that means they’ll start paying us more than $0.32 per tree.
