I'm literally chilling on my bed waiting for this amazing video on how I can help save the planet which is something i'm passionate about which may dramatic but this year I really asked my mom for stuff that saves our planet for my birthday (which is tomorrow, not very excited ngl idk why) but its important to me to stop with plastic grocery bags UGH I hate those so much I showed my mom a video of yours and I convinced her to stop using them THANK GOD!
Loved this! At my dads house we stopped buying paper towels bc it was wayyyy to expensive to keep buying them over and over. Now we just use cut up towels! And my dads gf recently moved in with us and brought a whole bunch of containers so we dont rly use baggies// Saran Wrap// tin foil anymore either.
About straws: I totally agree you don’t really need them anyway and if I’m brutally honest with myself I definitely don’t need them. However, I did have a phase where I liked drinking out of straws (and I still enjoy it from time to time) so I bought GLASS straws. They are so great and I feel like most people think metal straws are the only alternative but they’re not!! And to me metal straws sound kinda uncomfortable and weird haha. Anyway glass straws are great - they look better, they don’t break easily (as you might think), you can put them in the dishwasher (and you can see if they are stained/ dirty inside which I feel like you can’t really with metal ones hahah), they can handle hot beverages no problem. So yeah love mine but definitely not a necessity hahaha
Walmart sells cheap pyrex meal prep containers in sets! They are awesome for bringing lunches to work/school. They're microwaveable, easy to clean, and last you forever. I've had mine for three years now and they are still just as good as when I first bought them.
This was fun. I'm glad I looked for ways to improve in zero waste skills yet again and find this so soon. Some of the things I had to find out by myself a few weeks ago, so I wish I had seen this before. My next buy is going to be coconut oil in glass jars so I can use them to meal prep in the future. Even though one big plastic bucket of coconut oil is cheaper, I guess it's worth the effort. Don't know about the peanut butter, though. EDIT: my unnecessary swaps that may seem a little radical are 1) toilet paper: it may be nearly impossible for women, but a water bottle, your left hand and a designated towel for drying can do miracles. 2) office paper: get these from friends and family or work. To reduce/recycle even more, just cut them in half and bookbind/staple to make a notepad.
dude i’m three months younger than you and you are more mature than i could ever be. i’ve been a fan since 2013, and i just wanted to spread some love. think the world needs more of that. love youuuu 💝
With paper towels vs wash cloths my family mainly use wash cloths but we use paper towels to wipe the floor but they come from a company that uses no plastic packaging and they're made from 100% recycled material and they donate 50% of their profits to building toilets! (We also get tp and tissues from them!)
love this dani. especially about the straws, everybody seemed to freak out a few months ago about plastic straws without realizing that metal straws/paper straws aren't great either, particularly if you have a texture issue - which is why most people like plastic. also sidenote, i use q-tips to clean my bong bowl :O i go through a lot hahaha, should probably try to reduce that. can't wait for your next vid
also - i always KNEW and suspected you were woke (more woke than the other cims) and i have to say - after watching the menstrual cup video and now this, you've truly grown into such an admirable woman. i absolutely love how you can be so woke, respectful, conscious, and understanding while still maintaining your deep faith.
Actually one of the best things you can do for the environment is stop eating meat. I know a lot of people don't want to hear that, but the production of meat is actually sooooo damaging
bIackstreetboy You’re incredibly misinformed. Do your research. First of all, we kill billions of animals a year for food and it takes way more water and food just to keep them alive until they are slaughtered than it does to grow plants and eat them directly. Because you not only have to grow food to feed the animals which uses huge amounts of land and water, but they need to drink water on top of that. When instead we could just eat plants and obviously that uses a heck of a lot less land and water, and I don’t know where you got your misinformation from but the meat industry is a significant cause of soil degradation not to mention all the other ways it’s harming the planet, AND our health, as eating meat is the leading cause of the biggest causes of death in humans.
@@dandybaby26 yes, meat production is horrible. But please read up about avocado and almonds for example. How they are cultivated and where (=deforestation, stealing water from the people actually living there, etc.) . Almost as bad as meat.
@@bIackstreetboy yeah and who needs to eat this vegetables too? The animals that are eaten. You need to feed them before you can eat them. And this is a absolutely ineffective way to use resources.
About the stainless steel boxes: I have a whole bunch because I work at an office and need to bring my own lunch. I don't want to use plastic containers because a) I'd have to buy more plastic which is bad and b) because I think they take on the smell and taste of certain dishes and find that very disgusting. I don't want to buy glass containers either though because they are sooo heavy! Yeah, that's why I buy stainless steel ones haha
How do you feel about single use cleaning products and toxic chemicals? What do you use to clean your home? I've been using Norwex for a few years, would love to hear your thoughts!
Can confirm that q-tips are bad for your ears! I had to pay my doctor's office a visit a few months back because I had such bad wax buildup that I couldn't hear out of my right ear. I'm never using or buying q-tips again and trying to find uses for the ones I still have left. ALSO, I second the stainless steel containers! You can't put them in the microwave which irks me because I like bringing hot lunches to work. I have glass and plastic containers which will also last forever and can go in the microwave.
my problem with reusable towels and things is i’m a huge germaphobe and the thought of using it to wipe a dirty surface and then washing it and reusing it freaks me out, even though I know it would be clean and i’m just being irrational it still freaks me out

It would be soooo cool if you could also do a video on how you did the curly girl method (I don't remember exactly, but I think it wasn't in the hair video you posted the other day, right?)
if anyone is like me and gets emails from companies with coupons and sales or just likes to spend money when they're stressed.. donate! i get cravings to spend money sometimes even though i don't have much, so i could buy a $5 face mask that probably won't work and i don't need. OR i could donate that $5 to businesses or charities i care about! you can still online shop and look at fun stores, but instead of trying so hard to find something you could maybe use, close the tab and give a little to people who really need it
No hate, but do you not feel somewhat hypocritical talking about reducing your carbon footprint and trying to be greener when you still eat meat? The meat industry is a huge polluter and terrible for the planet? Not being harsh just genuinely curious
She talked about this on her Instagram once I think I think she also wanted to film a video about that at some point, but I think they only buy local meat from small farmers And if all the substitute products have to be flown halfway across the world for you to consume, that isn't exactly environmentally friendly either (coming from a vegetarian myself) (I think this was about what she said as well, but I don't remember what exactly it was)
You ever thought about reducing your consumption of animal products? They’re all the way up there when it comes to ruining the environment. Going vegan or at least vegetarian is something I’m surprised you’re not considering or even talking about.
It's not really. I'm from Europe (CH) , and when I see all these vegan people eating their avocado breads every day and using almond or Cashew milk, goji berries and what not... These things are NOT good for the environment (and there are more). Just because you're vegan doesn't mean, it's good. Certain fruits and vegetables (like avocado's etc.) use up TONS AND TONS of water, space (=deforestation) and also need transportation (mostly by plane, so you do the math). So yes, it might be the better choice, but only if you eat stuff that saisonal and from your region. I don't want to kick off a fight or anything, just stating a fact that many people ignore way too often.
@@koRnikon ok yes production for fruits, vegetables and crops etc can take up a lot of water and resources. fair point what youre forgetting is the pigs, cows, chickens etc need to eat and grow up before they are slaughtered! so more resources, fruits, vegetables, crops and water are used to produce meat, compared to a vegan diet which eats the fruit and veges straight up. does that make sense?
@@RealBrittanyMiller7 of course it does. I totally agree with you. The only thing that gets on my nerves are people going "green" /vegan and still eating tons of exotic fruit and stuff (also supplements) that had to fly all around the world and destroyed other peoples and animals homes and habitats to be grown in the first place (not implying that you are one of them) . I eat meat. But we have our own chicken, and we get beef from our neighbour, which only has about 5-6 cows at a time. All the animals get only the good food (I think you call it "organic" or sth. in the US? The one without pesticides and sh*t, in German its just BIO) and get to be outside at all time, anytime they want. I think our way is more environmental friendly, even with meat, than the "exotic fruit" way. I think, if you can't get your food locally and seasonally, you shouldn't be eating it.

You could use one set/one particular color or type of towel to wipe up messes, and then another for other purposes
