  • From the 1973 National Geographic LP, 'Songs & Sounds of the Sea', Side 1, Track 1 (Full): "Along the Pier"/"The Dreadnought".
'Along the Pier' features Tony Barrand leading "Clear Away the Track" and Louis Killen performing "Ten Penny Bit" on Concertina.
The Dreadnought is performed by Cliff Haslam with Jeff Warnerm Gerret Warner and Tony Saletan.
NOTE: This is an LP rip and not without minor flaws. As far as I know, National Geographic has never re-released this album in a more modern format.

My Dad used to play this for us when I was little, I fell in love with it. This record is probably why I have such a fascination with maritime matters, especially stormy seas. My Dad also duplicated the cover art in oil on canvas, it's still hanging above our mantle. It's almost a perfect facsimile.

Thank you so much for posting this record! I was given the LP in 1976 when I was 6 years old and it was quickly a favorite. I fell in love with sailing ships and the sea at a very early age, even though I was born in Colorado (although happily moved to the Oregon Coast at 13), and to this day, this is my favorite Sea Shanty record of all that I have! I made a recording of the LP myself and converted it to digital, but lost the recording when my phone's MicroSD card crapped out and now I can't find my original files. Your transfer is good. My transfer had almost no skips and very little record noise, so it is nice to be able to listen to yours until I hopefully can find mine someday soon. Thanks and Cheers!!!

This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this excellent record. I recall hearing it in my teens (our library had it) and being struck by its authority and authenticiy.

A bit belated, but thanks for posting this album. I discovered (and copied) it from a library cassette tape in the early 80"s.
    A long time favorite!

Please link or hit me up in private messenger, I'd love a digital copy of this. If the pirate link is not up anymore, perhaps youd share it with me via google drive.

Glad to hear this. The Dreadnought is quoted in Kipling's "Captains Courageous" - and I wondered how the tune goes.

My father had several of these NatGeo albums (Revolutionary War, Civil War, and a couple others from the series I can't recall), but they've gone missing, much to my regret. Have you found any more?

I got the record from my folks but had trouble getting it immortalized on minidisc with the skipping and all, so I bought the compact disc from the world wide web. Can anybody guess my age?

Where did you find a CD? Was it a NatGeo release?
