the biggest issue in tech, mainly cyber security, is that its not a 9-5. You dont just clock in and clock out. You need to stay alert on ongoing trends, breaches, learn new skills, and progress yourself on your own time. You dont really leave work at work, work has to be something you are actually interested in.

every big field is like that. medicine has new advancements every year. Programming is constantly changing and programmers have to keep up with it. Accountants deal with changes made by politicians both federal and local when doing their jobs. Construction workers have to deal with weather, learning how to operate new vehicles, etc. your comment really screams “never worked a job besides tech” and it shows. You don’t have to be obsessed with tech to have a career in it, just the drive to learn and some interest

The way to beat these tech layoffs, if you are layed off, is submit resumes and try to connect in large cities like New York or Dallas. Also hit companies in finance,Defense ,energy such as oil and gas.Tech companies are not the world, banking and also temp/ consulting companies at times look for people for short and long term contracts.I knew a guy making 100k as a data analyst working on a 2 year contract, then jumped to another 2 year contract.
    This was in 1981.

You are 100% right. I read a post on reddit you might find interesting- Tech companies treat tech workers like profit centers while non tech companies treat them as cost centers.

Tech is the most stressful job in the world, everyday you are plagued with unearthly problems that you worry may not be able to solve at all…or projects that you cant be 100% sure whether it will be successful

Also there are Federal government agencies, who always are looking for cybersecurity people.FBI,National Security Agency,Homeland Security, Defense Intelligence Agencies, Central Intelligence Agency. Also large hospitals need cyber technicians and pay well if in large city areas.Major banks such as Chase,Wells Fargo Citibank are also good areas to search.

I completely agree with all of these!! Thank you ! A lot of people talk about the pros. It was so hard that even before Covid I a,ways knew I wanted to be in tech and I had my degree and security+ and there were people still in college and no Certs getting offers bc they knew someone or random people with no background or tech related degree breaking in with someone they knew in the field (reference/referral), which I felt was so unfair since I already had the credentials. I learned the hard way it’s who you know more then what you know. So for jobs and clearances it’s hard bc you need to network well, bc they reach out ti interview old schoolmates or coworkers (whoever you note down) so it has to be someone you trust!
I didn’t get a lot of on the job training either and it was stressful having to learn on the client work bc I’d have to redo things. I agree with understaffing we are required to work longer and do more work for the same salary lolllll which is another reason people move on quickly. I wish I had a 9-5 but I do cyber security consulting so it’s more 8-6 lol.

Can you make a video about Chat GPT and ask anything about cyber security like: Create incident responses process, Malware containment process, Threat correlation, How to identify a threat, Create a script .bat to Triage Forensic, etc... like these.

@@mohammedjcd948 Perfect. Also, set up your own test lab to view some viruses. I worked with a younger co-worker that was just completing his master's that was in a similar situation as you. He went with programming. I kinda see a lot of cyber jobs shifting to those who can do a least some programming. You could always do Security Engineer if you want a more system admin style job as well.

I can tell you why they're finally laying off tech people. Here, why, the government at the point of time was trying to tax the crap out of tech companies, but the tech company said our people are stressed and overwhelmed due to the work we give them. That's why we pay them well.
So push it forward on times wise. A lot of females are posting what they do in tech, and it's show that they don't do anything. Pretty much these ticktok females air out the companies business and show how much work they do not do. Now, the government want to tax the crap out of them. But now the tech company pulled a uno reverse card and started laying people off to save themselves.
