I have PTSD from this video bringing back memories of prior safe trainings.
When my recertifications come up, I often have to receive MULTIPLE SETs. For my parish, for my Knights of Columbus, for my legal field, for my work as a volunteer with a vulnerable adults group, for volunteering for my local school, and for my volunteering with my son's school. As an attorney, I know they require all of these different ones because it's not really about learning anything. It's about the liability and being able to say "see, required him to take OUR program."

I was a catechist and parish volunteer for many decades. God bless you and your patience. I don't have it. It's the evil priests and corrupt bishops that need recurrent training. @DT-rk6cm 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +45

Here's an idea for a video if you think its funny enough
The 10 Catholics you meet at Adoration in the middle of the night.
You sleepily get up out of bed as it’s dark trying not to wake the kids as you make your way over to Church for Adoration in the dark night. “Who signs up for overnight Adoration anyway?” you say to yourself. You punch the code in to unlock the door to reveal…… ”The 10 Catholics you meet at Adoration in the middle of the night.”
    1) The Church mouse
    a. You walk in, quietly make the Sign of the Cross and there kneeling in the corner is the Church Mouse. Eyes closed, hands closed tightly in prayer. They peek one eye open to look at you. You wave politely but the mere wave scares them as if they were a wounded animal, they shudder and close up in to an even tighter ball eyes closed even tighter. You kneel down and glance over at the side altar and look back. They’ve vanished. You look around but they have disappeared as if they’ve crawled into their hole in the wall.
    2) The coffee lover
    a. You walk in, quietly make the Sign of the Cross and there lounging in the pew is the coffee lover. Legs crossed, arm flung over the back of the pew sipping on a coffee he quickly winks and shoots you with his finger gun. There are empty coffee cups littering the pew around him.
    3) The student
    a. You walk in, quietly make the Sign of the Cross and there sitting in the pew is the student. They have numerous books (the Bible, CCC, Augustine’s Confessions, maybe Why We’re Catholic) and pamphlets strewn about the pews. There are highlighters and pens and pencils all over and in their hair/behind their ear. They write feverishly in their journal going back and forth from book to book to writing in their journal.
    4) The prostrate power player
    a. You walk in, quietly make the Sign of the Cross and there laying face down on the floor is an older person. You quickly run over to them to see if they are ok. After you shake them and say, “Mister, mister are you OK?” (just like in the CPR/First Aid class videos) They look up at you and say, “Of course I’m ok, who wouldn’t be ok showing proper respect for Our Lord and Savior laying prostrate before the Almighty.” They look you up and down. Sheepishly you say, “Oh….oh right…. Gotcha” and awkwardly you lay prostrate down next to them. “Boy this marble tile is cold.”
    5) The word savor
    a. You walk in, quietly make the Sign of the Cross and there holding his Bible is the word savor. He traces his finger under the words to keep his place. but he reads one word then tilts his head to the side and contemplates it’s cosmic meaning (voice over of the thoughts in his head. T H E this must symbolize the trinity because it start with the letter T and has 3 letters)
    6) The space invader (#too close for comfort)
    a. You walk in, quietly make the Sign of the Cross and there is ……..no one. You look around again just to make sure. You are relieved to have some quiet prayer time to yourself. You kneel down and out of nowhere he slides in like Cris Collinsworth. (Sports meme reference you can search it, it is even a gif on your phone.) Right up next to you, shoulder to shoulder, even though there is no one else in the chapel. You move over to the next kneeler but they just stay attached at your shoulder.
    7) The chainsaw Rosary massacre
    a. You are kneeling there quietly in prayer and then in walks the way too busy scheduled person. They hurriedly kneel down and whip out their Rosary and you just hear this low rumble that resembles the hum of a chainsaw (maybe use actual chainsaw noise) as they quickly mumble through the prayers. Punctuated every so often for a breath of air and what appears to be a Glory be and Our Father. They quickly finish the Rosary and are gone in a flash.
    8) The moved by the Spirit swaying tree
    a. You walk in, quietly make the Sign of the Cross and there standing front and center is the swaying tree. Both hands raised up as if at a Baptist revival, just swaying to beat of the music in their head with the spotlight that is supposed to be on the altar lighting up their face.
    9) The pace car
    a. You walk in, quietly make the Sign of the Cross and there with Rosary in hand is the pace car. As you kneel down he just keeps making laps walking around the small adoration chapel. Rosary swinging side to side as he walks sometimes it even hits you as he passes by.
    10) The First timer
    a. You are kneeling there quietly in prayer your time is almost up, so you check the schedule to see who is coming in next. You see it’s Trent and you say, “Oh I know him from Bible study.” Then you hear the door trying to get jerked open you walk to the door and through the window you see Trent waving and mouths I forgot the code. You let him in and he says, ”Sorry, this my first time.” You say, “That’s ok, it happens to all of us.” Trent says, “So…… what do you do in Adoration?” You respond, “You pray.” Trent shocked replies, “For a whole hour????” “Yes.” You respond politely. Trent smiling says, “ Can you do it for me?” Your head drops and you just turn and say “I’m going back to bed!”

I feel ya on that one.
My birthday is in September so I was always one of the oldest kids in my grade. My senior year I turned 18 and was still part of my church’s youth organizations and doing things like serving and sacristan. I remember asking my adults leaders and priests if I needed to take anything even though I was still a student in high school.
Their responses pretty much boiled down to “Just say you’re still in high school if anyone asks. If they don’t ask, don’t say anything.” Helps that my family had been a that parish for years and I was involved since I was little, so didn’t have issues with anyone actually wondering about me.
Not saying young people can’t be abusers as that can be a thing, but it is awkward for us on that edge of legality who have good friends aged and graded below us.

I remember taking an online class when I volunteered to help the church lady with the Confirmation group for a retreat. I didn't think the material itself wasn't that bad, but those videos always drag the whole thing out . They just have that overly polished look that makes me drift off and sometimes the acting causes me to burst out laughing (happened once at my work for an HR video about sexual harassment. A lady walked out of the office of a superior (who I honestly didn't think was being unreasonable) and a passing employee deadpanned "shake it, baby" in the most robotic way. HR videos should be their own genre).
Our new priest caused a big stir in my parish when he required EVERY organization and person who wanted to be involved with any church event to take the training. Those who didn't, even if they had been volunteering for years, weren't allowed to help with ANYTHING that could involve having children around. I went back and forth on my feelings about it, but eventually I decided it wasn't worth being angry over. Our church has growing families and a school, so I can understand him wanting to mitigate any liabilities even if I don't agree with his strong arm methods.
At this point, everything is pretty mellow so either people also came to the same conclusion as me that the fuss wasn't worth the hassle or they (like some people know) just up and left for other parishes.
