  • Professor Shelley Wright is an astrophysicist, recently at the University of Toronto, and now faculty at the University of California, San Diego. Here she talks about her research into infrared and visible light SETI. She explains why if ETs are trying to communicate over long distances, they may be using IR lasers to do it. She was a postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley from 2009 - 2011 and continues to collaborate with Berkeley SETI Research Center scientists.

Curious as to what modulation techniques would you look for? PM. Phase Mod, etc.
How would you postulate differentiating natural from artificial optical signals?

Fascinating. I suspect any find would be cool but I see Hawking's point as well. That said any really advanced civilization is likely to be benign.

IR communication is limited to the speed of light. Communicating using quantum entanglement (if possible) will not have this limitation.

I have no idea what this all means, but I've got the BOINC app active and calculating as much as possible. From what I understood, this is good news right? (That you could Discover this)
