Not trying to be a dickhead but I think the BC Rich Dave used was a Bich, not a Mockingbird (I think the Mockingbird was used by other people such as Slash, for instance). There, just my little contribution. 😊
All good man, they weren’t that popular in Aus. I should’ve done some research before speaking. I just remember Dave saying it would break strings constantly.
@@LambChopper678 No worries man. That's incredible wow, how in the hell did he bear with that issue since before he joined Metallica? Thanks for pinning my comment, Lamb! 🤘🏻
There's pictures of Dave using all kinds of BC Rich Guitars. His main one was the Bich but he did use Mockingbirds as well as others before the switch to Jackson
@@Cthulhu_Awaken probably just singing. Ive heard that kerry king sometimes played bass during the shows because a string broke and he didnt have a backup guitar. Those were times you couldnt afford changing strings before every gig.
Man, I love your passion for tweaking and dialing tones. Every time I learn something new from you Bought the Dsl 20 after watching you get some awesome tones from it, I couldn't be happier with it and I have you to thank you for it. Keep them coming.
Hey LambChopper678, I just want to say thank you for these vids. I'm re-recording some tracks off of Kill em All and I'm using your settings. Its has turned out great, I'm almost done with Four Horsemen and I couldn't be happier. Thanks again.
I love these videos and this channel is why I got a DSL 20. Sat and thought about it for a few weeks and pulled the trigger. Was between that and a 6505 MH. After seeing how similar the circuit is to a JCM 800 and how many classic thrash tones you can get, it was a no brainer for me. Also learned that the DSL 20 uses the better power tubes than other amps in it's class so that's a plus. Thanks again for these awesome videos and keep it up!
Oh fucking oath man! Of the world to BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee *now to you, this'll come*
"Killing....." is such an aggressive record! You can hear the aggression in the guitars, raw, angry metal! I can't think what influenced mustain to make such an angry record. 🤔
amazing video as always mate. i always loved how cheap and raw this album sounded, it had alot of aggression behind it, and the tone and riffs always had alot to say (as did dave mustaine at the time). Glad to see you back on youtube, cheers mate.
Jaymz described Dave's early tone as being able to peel the soundproofing from the walls of any studio, or something to that effect. When I saw this in my feed, I couldn't click on it fast enough.
Awesome as always mate!! Another great tone!. What a nuts riff at 3:50 haha. So good!. Was that the four hoursemen at the end too? 😜😂. Keep these recreation vids coming! Never fail to learn something new from them!.
Did you ever tried sound of Kill em all ? btw for those who never heard Killing is my business... the final kill remaster go and listen now, it's top notch.
He's already done a guitar tone video for KEA with the DSL, look on the other videos on his channel! There's a bunch of capturing the tone features 😉Mostly with the DSL20 but also with other amps.
any advice for a beginner trying to change powerchords quickly at like 2:05 I just... I can't seem to change them that quick and it looks like he doesn't even take his hands off of the strings when he changes..
I absolutely hate the final kill, guitar sound completely lost its character for me. 2004 for remaster is okay but im only really happy since i got the original pressing
KIMBABIG is the only album where i think all three versions are worth owning The original is the most dynamic. 2002 is overall the most balanced mix (by baisis for more bass in the mix). Final Kill is a great modern production as well a s few extra dynamics (like the laughs on Loved to deth). if i remember the producer for Final Kill, Ted Jensen, worked with Alice in Chains and Trivum when they started going more thrash and less metalcore
@@TheMarioMan247 im quite biased since i love raw recordings. peace sells for me is the only of the first 3 records i can listen to in remastered. bass sounds punchy and smooth, drums are still huge and it keeps the general atmosphere of the album. sfsgsw was my first megadeth album and once i first heard the remaster on spotify i i knew sth was wrong, went back to vinyl to check and noticed that the drum sound in the remaster is completely flat and boring. sfsgsw isnt a perfect production its gritty, messy and matches the aggressive sound perfectly. with gar and chris megadeth played extremely tight and nounced, in the sfsgsw lineup they sounded really angry, partly uncontrolled and chaotic. one of a kind in their disco and thats why i love the production
I bought a DSL20HR after watch your videos. Thanks for so useful content. Can tou try to capture Mercyful Fate, Don't Break the Oath tone? Thanks again, cheers from Brazil!
I have mixed feelings about these vids. The good is that it is clear you have a very good ear and ability to take the closest gear you have (none of which was actually used) to make a convincing approximation, and the Marshall used is very common and reasonably cheap. The bad is that everything is a deviation from what Dave used (requiring a fresh start trying on a more authentic JMP/JCM with different voicing) and the combo of on-hand stomps you use (more so in other videos) is rather niche, taking away from the usefulness of this for others, making non-DSL owners wonder if it’s better grabbing one and the FX you used, or grabbing a more true-to-form Marshall circuit and doing their own thing to try to figure it out themselves. I would love to see (when possible) more garden-variety FX -kudos on the MXR EQ, for instance, and I appreciate the speaker tips. Either way, it is entertaining to see a good tone capture… I just wish it was a little more useful for the general viewer.
Totally appreciated mate. I never started the series thinking it would go this far. Turns out loads of people have bought the dsl because of me. I guess I’m making these videos for those people. These are all requests and I guess I feel obligated in a way to see how many tones we can capture without influencing them to buy something else. Good comment mate, thanks 😊
I would really love to see your take on Iron Maiden’s Brave New World tone on the DSL, that had some great clean tones as well as some good old school Marshall crunch.
Awesome riffs but hard to play I have 2 requests, if you can: Heathen "Victims of Deception" tone and Helloween "Walls of Jericho"! Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
Want that EQ from hell more than I want the DSL, good lord. Mustaine’s mid bite inspires so much of my tone, I need the guitar to cut the fuck thru a mix. I highly recommend giving the black winter a shot, it made me give a fuck about Seymour Duncan. I really dig the thrash factor tho, that has a super sparkly top end. The Black Winter does the Megadeth thing without the top end bite, mostly midrange presence.
Can you try and get the tone from slipknots album Iowa. In the guitar world magazine in 02’ Jim said he used a 5150 so it shouldnt be too much a problem.
Damn don't know how I missed this. I thought it was the actual song at first lol. I've been wanting to ask, did you do any like scientific research on how equalization works, or was it just screwing around?
Just got my Marshal DSL20hr B-stock for 333e off of Thomann, ran a Headrush Gigboard in front for the tube screamer and EQ and man - you can literally get any tone on earth with this thing. I am positive Marshall are gonna kill this amp series in the future. It's too good at this price range. 2000e would be the right price.
Really depends on the amp I guess. In a mix I prefer mids but jamming riffs in my own I love a scooped tone. I don’t really have a preference as long as it sounds good
