Americans are much more similar to Serbs, very opened, having fun all the time, very thankful for anything you show them, never complain about anything.
Personally know like 2-3 Americans and they are open, indeed. :)
What saddens me about Russians in Belgrade is that they are not really open to hangout and talk with Serbians. Rather, they hang out with other Russians. And That is such a shame, because you won't find friendlier and more hospitable people anywhere, except maybe in Georgia and Armenia. I understand that there are 200k Russians in Serbia at the moment, and that wast majority of them are in Belgrade (like, 1/10 of the people in Belgrade are Russians) but they are living in their own bubble. That is my experience in the past 2,5 years. What do you think is the reason for that?
you have to understand that they left their country, so technically they are political refugees. Give them time. We will learn from them, they will learn from us.
Russians are very "closed" people, it's hard to make friends even if you are Russian 😅 but since they don't speak the language (and it will take some time for them to do so), they are even more closed and afraid of everything unknown. Honestly, being here for only 2 months, I noticed that, too, that they prefer going to cafes and restaurants opened by Russians (and I don't know why...), going to Russian doctors (probably because of the language, and chilling with Russians.
Btw I understand that it's hard to find friends when you don't speak the local language, so I'm working on it. 💪
I do believe Serbs will be really fun to hang with and hope to find Serbian friends here :)
@@rrrksana I think "very closed people" is an understatement, I would say extremely closed comparing to Serbians. lol But there is no reason to put the guard up, not here. I think most Russians know English here, yet they are not communicating. And our languages are not so different (but the accent is always different). I am not getting the impression that they are learning Serbian, if so they are not practicing it at all. I understand that Russians who came here are not the average Russians you would find in the streets of Russia. But still, no need for isolation.
The problem is that Serbians (most of us) had totally different perception of Russians. Like we say "Serbians and Russians brothers forever." So in our mind we viewed you as closest cousins. But that is not the case from the Russian side at all! You viewed us like the farthest western outpost where some Slavs live. Like some very very distant relatives. To caricature a little: Like you came into our house and we say "Hey cousin, long time no see (we kiss you 3x and hug you)! And you are like "Who are you?!" I don't remember we met? Yet, you happen to be at OUR house... My first neighbors are Russian couple. They are here more than a year and they learned only "Dobar dan" and that is it. As if they are constantly in cramps, as if they are very uncomfortable to talk. Very weird.
My 10 cents- Russian liberals who arrived in Serbia despise Serbia,.litlle less as they despise Russia...
They live here year or two and they can pronounce 2 sentences on serbian...they dont care, they dont want to.integrate, they dont want to learn serbian ,or georgian, or armenian, they despise all of that countries...
Their goal is EU/USA/ Canada and they want serbian passport because of free EU entry and new possibilities towards North America...
I hope that serbian goverment will finally proceed with law in which the acquisition of Serbian citizenship is conditioned by the cancelation of previous citizenship...russian liberals will instantly live brotherly Serbia, since Russia is for them feeding ground, and they cant lose that financial resource...😂

Growing up in a different country, I never understood how kids were denied food or a tiny package saying it makes 4 servings lol. I remember my friend's house down the street had a chain on their fridge! We ate third helpings if we wanted and we're never told we can't eat sweets or chips!
What is also good about Serbia is its location. No country in Europe even your Russia is not too far.
As for food, yes, street food is very good. But, for reeeeally excellent food you need to visit restaurants or serbian homes (of your future friends) for example for Slava or Easter or Christmas. During these events there is a fantastic foor made by home members for family and for guests. As you can guess: homemade food made for familly members and guests is always the best

Hi! I'm glad you're enjoying your time in Serbia. However, please don't be fooled by our abnormally hot summer this year - this is due to the climate change. Serbia can be hit by a cold weather very easily and what is common here are huge temperature shifts, which can not so rarely result in 20c difference just between 24-48h. So now that summer is ending, be prepared for some cold as well, since our climate is not Mediterranean after all, but still continental.

I'm glad you find it interesting, but a lot of people go abroad from here. And still does. Since 1990, one and a half million people have left this country. Mostly educated. The rest of people became illiterate and arrogant. Honor the exceptions.
Hmmm, I agree, those who left were better educated on average, but they were also way more arrogant and fake. Honor the exceptions. I know way too many of them who worked one or even two jobs abroad that they wouldn't do here even if they starved... There they weren't so picky and nobody could see how they live like rats and work low status jobs. When they came here to visit they made sure that they present a different high-end lifestyle and make us who stayed look like peasants. Because they bought things on sales, or took loans or mortgage. But when you ask them can I come to visit you or can you help me get away from here they say: Nooo, don't come, It is not like before in Germany/Canada/US/Australia! Maybe I should have recommend them to come back to Serbia because life there is way to hard now.

Long ago it happened whole January to be in minus, but last winter only one week with snow and minus temp. Sure it is much warmer than in Russia. Extreme low temperatures (-10, -15) are possible but those days you can count on one hand fingers.
It's cold in the south-west - where the mountains are.
