Dear Asafa I love how you spoke what's on your mind. I get you. Seriously some people are really ungrateful. They have gotten too accustomed to our athletes winning habits so much so that they are unprepared for misfortunes at these championships. First, they must remember that disappointments are apart of the whole scheme of things. Secondly they need to recognize the sacrifice all the athletes make in the name of our country; just to bring pride and joy to the people of this nation. For me, I am always grateful, I appreciate everyone's effort because while I am asleep they are up training. While I basked in the glory of winning and flying the black, green and gold flag, they are on the track while I am in my house jumping with joy and making noise. I speak from "a know position " I was an aspiring athlete, made the team at primary school and showed an interest in track and field up to second form in high school but it was too much for me to balance so I had to give it up. @Karlene Robinson. Well said 😊. I don't know aJamaican person who isn't in love with this great Guy. He will always be in our hearts. He was the first. Its a pity he went through so much injuries. He would have been better maybe than Bolt. But it's okay. That's life.
Is like I wrote this... I carried Asafa allllll the way. No one replaced him for me and no one never will. Just like how Elaine is my girl. I hope she doesn't let their negativity affect her. I just love how she and Asafa is very humble. Everyone will have a favorite but that doesn't means they should compare or dash the others.
Never commented before but I see the need to...I agree with you that Jamaicans need to support their athletes. Win or lose we should all be proud and not be judgemental. Jamaica also need to do better when it comes to taking care of the athletes.
That's a touching story Mr. Powell. I thought my country was bad, but Lord until I heard this, I must agree that you Jamaican athletes need all the blessings you all can get. We as Caribbean citizens must start to appreciate more and criticize less. As a child until now, my mom(constantly cheers you on during your races via tv) and dad always have and continue to admire you and many other Jamaican athletes. Continue the hard work...you are all appreciated by at least someone within the Caribbean region. From another Caribbean household, to you, your beautiful family and the athletes....blessings and peace.✌✌👏👏👏
I support everyone of our caribbean athletes and I am Jamaican. I just want them to get a medal at all times. We are all tiny islands and our athletes are clean. They perform naturally and they are not caught up in drugs to enhance their performance. They eat good natural food and train hard most times without financial support. The US in particular dont want any of us winning so I cheer on every one of our caribbean athletes. So, come on caribbean people lets cheer them all on. They are all ours to be proud of. I could hear the very real pain of personal experience in Asafa's voice. He has felt it, too many times. I remember the 2008 shoulder injury, saw the scar. In 2009 he actually injured his ankle twice, and the second time was because he tried to run at Penn because he was being criticized for not wanting to run there. In an effort to please others he ended up running and hurt the ankle again. He practically ran one-legged in the Berlin World Championships for that bronze medal. People just don't know what he has been through, and so many other athletes. I'm glad he told the 2012 story, because very few people knew about him flying to Florida between rounds of the 100m. Real talk Asafa, very well said, pure truth.
Truth serum!! Ty for speaking out. Hopefully those who need to hear this, will. You guys have made us very proud whether we are on, or off the rock. Support must not be conditional!! Love isn't conditional its ride or die. Wondering if more conversation/education about the grind is needed since we only focus on the glory.
Big up to all the athletes - every last one of them and big up to the Jamaicans who appreciate and believe in them no matter what the outcome. There is a side of Jamaicans that is disgraceful and clueless but there is also a side that is loyal to Jamaica and the athletes no matter what. I feel it in my heart when I see my people represented across the world. To me, winning is just an added bonus, but it's just the sight of us is so inspiring and I am so proud. I hope things get better and we find a solution to support the athletes.
People forget that you ran times no body had ever run and you was young as hell. I'm a American and I will always be one of your biggest fans you are a living legend and a king of track and field to me!
That’s why a lot of Jamaica athletes run for other countries and we should learn to respect that. Sir I have always appreciated your hard as well as the other athletes. It is a shame as you said that the athletes are not compensated. Especially when we hear how much the other countries pay their athletes when they win a medal. Blessings to you and your family.
Well stated Sir Powell. Never knew you were going through so much. Thank God you were able to surmount the many obstacles and proud that you gave Jamaica your very best. The thing is many Jamaicans want to live their lives through the athletes. Not even stopping to think the great stress their bodies go through in preparation. Therefore we quarrel and some of us can't even spit in less than 30 secs much less run under that time. My wish is that Jamaica will take track and field to the next level and to start an academy for our athletes. One that will take care of their medical needs, financial and full training needs. I am often concerned about the strength training routine that they do in preparation for these championships and wonder if the science is really used in the training hence the many and repeated injuries. There may be a need to develop sports medicine and sports science or exercise science in Jamaica so that our athletes can get the best care and training advice they need . My other wish is that Jamaica or the Caribbean can get to host one of these top championships some day. Stay blessed and forgive us for complaining so much. Jamaica loves our athletes but need to know how to take better care of them. Peace and love!!!

Most of us don’t feel that way Asafa. There will always be detractors. Speaking about restaurants, what you saying is so true. It is so cliquish…the masses move in when new and they all move out in droves together when a new shiny toy comes up. And to your point. Use Tessanne Chin as an example. For years many Jamaicans didn’t support her locally until she went on a global stage on the Voice and then all of a sudden Jamaicans claim her. Sigh. I feel you! Thanks for educating us!

I am with 100%, I was a track Mom up to high school and my daughter gave it up because of the training and her grades were falling behind. The training is very hard. We need to support instead of tearing down. It’s not only physically but emotionally emotions they are going through like anyone else.

Jamaica and the Jamaican Gov't loves the glory and recognition but nobody to date has raised awareness in this arena. I sincerely hope this video goes viral and the old hypocrites in power and capacity, actually does something about it. Our athletes are deserving and need more than just a handshake and a thank you.
I apologize to Yohan, now I get a better understanding of their running and training, thanks Asafa for explaining. This is not a easy sports, your information have open eyes.
So it took Asafa to let us know that it wasn't OK to be disrespectful to our athletes, I have been so hurt to see the things said about especially Yohan. To work his way back from that injury is nothing short of sheer determination and resilience. It is almost like he is representing the country through a bligh. As a nation we revel in tearing each other down. We did the same thing to Merlene she walked away. We must try to do better. SMH..

Asafa, you are so right and I so agree with you. Win or lose I scream for my country. I left Jamaica 39-years ago and I still cheer for all the athletes. No one knows the pain they goes through and training but everyone sits and complain. No one spend on our athletes but everyone ready to criticize them. I always pray for a breakthrough so I can do something for them. We want the glory but don't know the story and pain behind. We just need to stop talk. We chat too much. In good times and bad times, we should love them the same. Thanks for the encouragement for the athletes.
Say it as it is Asafa. Many people only see the glitter and glamour of these performances. They don't know or care to know about the sacrifices, the tears, the down days of the athletes behind the scene. They tend to be unsympathetic and unkind to the athletes when they fall short at Championships. See how much they are criticizing Elaine now. We must be more kinder in our utterances win or loose.
When I was visiting Jamaica in 2011 and 2012 my nephew who was running at the university took me to get some walking in ( around the track) while he and his teammates trained. So I was able to watch while I walked. You are right more people need to go and watch how hard and serious both the men and women train. What really surprised me was when the coach called for the runners of the various distances, both men and women started and ran together!

It’s good that you broke it down for us Osafa because in truth how are we to know these things if no one talks about the struggles you athletes face. I’m sure the diaspora community would love to help if we knew these things. Thanks for elaborating on the struggles financially emotionally and injury setbacks that the athletes face. As someone in the diaspora community, I live to see the black gold and green competing but now I’ll have a better appreciation for the sacrifices and challenges athletes face to represent us. I for one never put down or talk negatively about our athletes when they’re not at optimal performance level but now I know and understand the many factors that’s the cause. Thanks for the commentary. Shame on jamaica government for not having a fund and support system organization for the athletes representing our country.
Jamaica may not be paying them but without the fans support there would be no athletics. We have to respect each other. That wasn't nice for Asafa to say he doesn't owe us anything. If we stop supporting them they would be nothing.

You did your leg of the relay and I am happy we had another star to carry on the second leg of our rich track and field legacy in your era. You don't know me in person but I love you, I am your big sister from another mother. I cried when you were penalized however short the period, my friends laughed at me but I couldn't care less. I love you for speaking your truth. It only makes me appreciate what you have done for Jamaica more. I support team Jamaica all the way, every time. Respect and much love
@Karlene Robinson. Well said 😊. I don't know aJamaican person who isn't in love with this great Guy. He will always be in our hearts. He was the first. Its a pity he went through so much injuries. He would have been better maybe than Bolt. But it's okay. That's life.
Well said. Love Asafa
"We remember when it was only you" describes a legion of us, fans of Asafa who will never waver. Always good to meet another.
He is a legend and always be remembered..he break up the dominance of the American 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️...and dominate...
Never commented before but I see the need to...I agree with you that Jamaicans need to support their athletes. Win or lose we should all be proud and not be judgemental. Jamaica also need to do better when it comes to taking care of the athletes.
So true about and some of us can't even run to save their lives
Big up all our athletes. Caribbean me seh!!!
It is not about the country. It is the mentality of the individuals in Every Country. Talking from experience. Birds of a feather flock together.
It’s good that you are sharing your experience as an athlete. These are conversations that need to be had consistently.
"From 2005 me a wait on piece a land and diplomatic passport" that take cake pupa Jesus 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hope you will get it after this video
He needs to confront those who made him the promise and not the fans.
Welcome to Jamaica where people with u this min and the next min they against u….funny when u think about it🤣🤣🤣.
@@AsafaAlyshiaPowell Stop being a victim bro. Even when you were loosing many of us Jamaicans supported you ../But I've come to realise that many Jamaicans like yourself blame "JAMAICANS"/"JAMAICA " for the actions of the minority..Your whole statement is a slap in the face to the manyyyy Jamaicans who supported your regressive career.
Thank you for speaking out, Asafa. Message received. Hopefully the people who needs to hear will get this message.
💯great man, expose them all, real patriotic Jamaicans love and appreciate you safa🇯🇲🇯🇲
Most Jamaican love this dude ,don't know what he is talking.,..Jamaicans hate themselves and that's why they blame "JAMAICANS" for everything..I have never seen a people who generalise and stereotype their own like Jamaicans.
"Jamaicans" could easily be 10,20,50,100 people of 3 million.lol
Wow, I understand your frustration because you experience the verbal abuse first hand but sincere thanks to you guys for your dedicated performance..we really are proud of you ALL 🇯🇲 🇯🇲 🇯🇲 God bless
Thanks Asafa for letting Jamaicans know the struggles athletes go through. We need to be more compassionate.
Truth Indeed!.more education about the realities of the grind to open ppl's eyes!
Well said!
In total agreement Asafa.
People forget that you ran times no body had ever run and you was young as hell. I'm a American and I will always be one of your biggest fans you are a living legend and a king of track and field to me!
Respect to Asafa. A real legend in the game, almost single handedly flying the flag for Jamaica for years in the athletic scene at one point!!
They need to be supportive like us Grenadians. We supporting Kirani through it all🇬🇩🇬🇩🇬🇩
Well stated Sir Powell.
THATS NOT UNIQUE TO JAMAICA!!!! JAMAICANS TOOO DAMN SENSITIVE..THEY BLAME "JAMAICA/JAMAICANS WHEN THEY CANT GET THEIR WAY..I SEE THE TREND OF LATE .BLAME JAMAICANS FOR THE ACTION OF THE MINORITIES.😂😂😂ASAFA WAS BELOVED ,STOP THE MADNESS!!!
It's not Jamaica alone. Alot of countries don't help their athletes. If you read or listen the stories of some tennis players, the hardships they've been through without a dime from their country, you'd be amazed. Bless up Asafa and all the others who fought to make it without help from their country
@@dorothysmith3205 Because it's not their countries obligation to do so
Thank you for speaking out Asafa.
People are not sensitive to the athletes.Well said.Proud to see the progress to these athletes.
WELL SAID.
At yohans age and still able to do this. Hats off to him. 👏 amazing. Everything you said is so true. They have my support high or low. Thanks for standing up for the athletes asafa Once again.👍❤
👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾This needs to be said long time!! The critics have no idea what you guys go through and the minute you do not meet their satisfaction you are torn to pieces!! Disgusting attitude that we need to get rid of and support through thick and thin!!
I'm concerned for Yuhan and that recurring injury and now Parchment!! These things happen and we need to be sympathetic and supportive. So talk yuh talk Asafa this should've been said long time😊😊
This is the REALEST video on TH-cam. Thank you for ALWAYS speaking the truth. Your voice is respected and needed in these conversations. If Jamaica wants bragging rights on thier Athletes they need to start PAYING them.
Big up to all the athletes who goes out on the track i am very proud when jamaican athletes represent there country
Thank you for speaking from the heart about the athletes and how we treat you guys. I hope the powers that be hear you and get more involved in the lives of our athletes. When we big up our chest we must feel good that we were a part of the journey. Congrats to all the athletes who made it to Oregon. Happy birthday to Daddy Powell
I am with 100%, I was a track Mom up to high school and my daughter gave it up because of the training and her grades were falling behind. The training is very hard. We need to support instead of tearing down. It’s not only physically but emotionally emotions they are going through like anyone else.
She can't do both..it's ridiculous..track & field is n career too..so is either academics or track & field!..education will always be there..education doesn't carry age..but track & field does!..once you touched in your thirties your career about to over!
This message was needed and I hope our people take heed. This is the best in the world and they qualified to represent our country. We Jamaicans need to be supportive.
Thank you for this. You just enlightened my ignorance more than I can show appreciation. This perspective was needed. Again thank you. All respect to you #Sub10King
SMH..
Thanks for sharing the information, and thanks for telling many of us Jamaicans about our fickle support for our athletes , I truly hope your message open many of our eyes and cause a positive change.
The government needs to do better Jamaican Olympians have such a positive impact on the world people needs SPONSORSHIP so if you can pls help the athletes
Well said Mr. Asafa Powell, Athletes should be appreciated more. We love you all for the Dedication, Sacrifice and Hard Work put into 15 seconds. God bless you all the Great Job you guys do
I see the work these athletes put in and I know that I don't have the level of commitment, physical nor mental drive so I just support and appreciate every single performance. Mi feel proud everytime our athletes suit up.
Sometimes when I look at others countries with athletes that don't do as good as us and their countries show them so much gratitude. They never get a medal but come back each year and their countries are behind them 100%.
LOVE THIS!! Every athlete deserves recognition
Real talk Asafa, am so glad that you come out and speak on behalf of the past and present athletes them , they only see the glory but they don't know the story. Big up yourself
Let them know Asafa we need to know what the athletes have to go through big up yourself young men you all did great and keep the jamaican flag flying high 🇯🇲 🇯🇲
Win, lose or draw I stand with JA athletes. Love you guys bad. Thanks for this vlog. So appreciated!!!!!
exactly they don't know the sacrifice , no one in life would sign up for something so taxing and put in the work and don't give them best.
I did not know it was like this for Jamaican athletes. We need to all listen and appreciate this more. Thanks for sharing and I always loved and appreciated you as an athlete. 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
We love you Mr. Powell and we support you, you are one of our legends. If it wasn't for you we wouldn't be talking about sub 10's, you cemented that trend and we appreciate all you have done.
Real talk bredda. Bless up everytime
I never ran professional but as a College athlete I totally understand what your saying especially when schools don't pay you to run and injury is a thing.. appreciate someone coming out speaking truth when it comes to this life!!! U have to love this to do it day in and day out!!!
Osafa thank you for setting the record straight! It hurts me to the Core to hear the bad remarks. These people have amnesia they forget the good times, the wins. We must encourage our athletes they make Jamaica 🇯🇲 look good out there. & give us a sense of pride. Bless up!
Mr. Powell THANKS FOR SPEAKING YOUR TRUTHS/ THE TRUTH, I have tears 😭 in my eyes. After listening to you, all I CAN to say is a BIG SORRY!!!
THANKS TO YOU AND ALL OF THE JAMAICANS ATHLETES FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO ON AND OFF THE FIELD and again SORRY FOR THE HURTS
Love your professional & honest perspective. I hope it can change how we think as Jamaicans
Well said Asafa! Well said.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your father!!!
Thanks for keeping it real Asafa! Blessings.
Amen. Amen. Amen. Thank you for being honest and brave enough to say it publicly.
I appreciate what you have said Mr. Asafa Powell becz they don't know how it feels to go out there how hard you guys work for ,just care about winning all the time.
Asafa you've been my favourite when I was growing up and in high school and remain my favorite now that am an adult. Your a wise person indeed.
Thank you for bringing up this topic. I am saddened at the way some Jamaicans drag down their athletes. Some are even saying that Elaine is pretending that she have any form of injuries. No wonder they are killing off each other everyday. DISGUSTING.
Exactly 💯
THANK YOU POWEL! You have always been one of our favorites. I'm used to watch all of your meets hoping you would get that 100 under 10. Even without it ...no one has come close to the 97th. Who has come close? No one. Be Blessed my brother...Much love from America....B1.
Thank you so much for speaking on this……….Much respect to you…..
The truth sets you free.
Thank you for your brave efforts and wonderful accomplishments.
You are the first Man to have ever run 9.77 in the 100m and you inspired others to reduce it.
You also reduced it.🏅
Thank you for everything.
Maybe you need to do a documentary on what it means to be an athlete. From your perspective or from your colleague’s perspective
Up or down, win or lose, ebb or flow, our reps have my full and unconditional support👍🏾💯🇯🇲❤️
I'm with you on this one Saf. They didnt even know that they had to pull fluid from Blake's leg. We need to support our athletes. The things they put their bodies through is unheard of. Hats off to you guys. I congratulate each and everyone of the athletes, win, lose or draw.
Asafa, you need to be a consultant to the sports ministry. Real talk. You have been there so you know the deal.
I noticed the many of the guys are running sub 10 this year, it's a great time to watch the youths get in the game and run at great speeds. They're from all over the world 🌎
You are a great athlete, known throughout the world. Always remember not all jamaicans feel that way. Please don't generalize. Many of us have jobs where we are unappreciated. At the end of the day we trod on smiling. God bless.
I respect you 100% for speaking out because you are an icon to the sport and your message speaks volume across the board not only for Jamaica but for other countries and Caribbean athletes as well . Bc the govt don’t provide enough for you guys . Continue to deliver your message 👏🏽💯
Thank you for sharing that message! You guys are doing a awesome job with your TH-cam channel.
I can say asafa u a always my favourite athlete. people love chat and don't know nothing big up yo self yaa man we still admire yo
you talking about yoan Blake, I see where ppl coming at Elaine online where she got 3rd in the 200 semi, I even told someone they only liked the athlete when they winning
Very true
Sad
Real talk Asafa Powell. Set them straight. I agree with you 100 percent Why our people are like this? (Some Jamaicans🇯🇲) . Sad. So unappreciated. As if they could have done better. (Ignorance). Continue to shine Asafa ✨️.
Agree 100%. Yohan has represented Jamaica at the highest level and brought us glory in the past. Personally I will never bash an athlete. Athletics is full of ups and downs. We just need to be grateful for the good times and supportive in the bad times.
Nuff respect to you guys, it takes hard work to do what y’all do!
Asafa thanks for explaining the ups and downs in a athlete life, and track and field world. And i'm sure this video pretty much sums up, how all the other athletes feel, good for you speaking on this topic, hope it shed more light for supporting Jamaican Athletes.....
So true Asafa. I agree with all you have said. We all need to hear these things more often and on a larger platform.
I am always suporting my jamaicano athletes weather they lost are win.i understand they work very had to be where they at.
Well said!! Even Elaine is catching hell. Thank you for your take on the matter. Some of us horrible!!
General! Fans are fans, and as bad as you think the bad ones are, on the opposite end of the spectrum there are fans who exceeds those with their love for you guys. Just always remember as good as we think we are, bad still resides in us.
So Big Boss as a man who knows love, keep enbracing it and sharing it.
U a General and lots of Jamaicans love you even more than their own flesh n blood🙏🏾
Asafa u r in your truthful supportive mode (rant). You're keeping it real👏👍. Thanks for enlightening those of us who heard & listened. Btw thanks for supporting those athletes & having their backs. Enjoy your day with your dad,on his birthday🙏.
Thank you for speaking out for the Jamaican athletes. I am so proud of all of the athletes that have been representing Jamaica.🇯🇲🇯🇲. Thank you for speaking out today. Jamaican people need to support our athletes.
Asfa, May God continue to bless and keep your family.
Blessings to you and your family Mr Powell. I think this should be on every platform of the media. I would really appreciate if you could do a continuation on this subject that we as Jamaicans can understand and learn to appreciate all the sacrifice and dedication that our athletes are going through to our Country proud.
Thank you. I always try to uplift you guys to others. Respect and thank you for the many years, Asafa!
I agree with you 100% Asafa. Well done for speaking up on behalf of the athletes. Jamaica we need to do better.
Real talk from a legend. Thanks for sharing that info. We need to support athletes fi real.
True Asafa we Jamaicans are ungrateful and don't appreciate the athletes them. Win ,loose or draw me still support them . I can't even run 10 meter
Speak your truth. It's hard work physically, mentally and emotionally. We have lots of love, respect and gratitude for the work you athletes do. Thanks for sharing so candidly. Nuff respect.
GOD bless u mr p who feels it knows it.
Thank you all my Jamaican athletes for all the hard work you all put into the races to make Jamaican proud 💚🖤💛
Asafa,
I applaud you for your analysis and being so candid with your experiences, and explanation of the injuries in the sport.
I sincerely hope that the appropriate personnels pay attention to this commentary and act accordingly!
With you 100% as I share similar sentiments. it really hurts to hear the comments coming from some of our people during these games. Keep doing your thing, more blessings
Shame on jamaica government for not having a fund and support system organization for the athletes representing our country.
p
Thanks for speaking out who feel it know it. You have done excellent
Love from Toronto.
Jamaica may not be paying them but without the fans support there would be no athletics. We have to respect each other. That wasn't nice for Asafa to say he doesn't owe us anything. If we stop supporting them they would be nothing.
Well said Asafa. I can’t run so anyone who goes out to represent Jamaica 🇯🇲 I’m grateful and I’m praying for better for our athletes. If I can make a change I will. I’ve got something in the pipeline 🙏🏽❤️
Thank you for speaking up Mr. Powell. May God continue to bless you and your family.
Bwoy Asafa,
It breaks my heart to hear this. I wish there was a Jamaican Athletic Fund that we could contribute to.
We are all guilty of taking our athletes for granted and need to do better.
I celebrate Jamaica win or lose because the athletes definitely have the option to go elsewhere and rep another country.
The country should definitely compensate them better and not just rely on sponsors.
Those who really want something to contribute to can start something to contribute to.
I must admit you are so right representing the country we all should be more appreciative to our fellow Jamaicans love your speech one love
Track and field fans are not loyal, they only want gold! Well said Asafa! Health is the best blessings for athletes.
So true Asafa I posted on Facebook as well, only when a person up they have friends but when they are down they have few Friends, unite we stand and divide we fall. Even when our Athletes don't medal still encourage them. Greetings Asafa from Connecticut USA. I encouraged Yohan, Elaine , I remember when they gave us medal 🏅, I am happy for Shelly, Sherika, Elaine, Yohan, and the rest of Sprinters . 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
