I've been using ya'lls process since the beginning....everything ya'll do is on the money and both you two do a great job of explaining it. Thank you very much and keep up the taxidermy videos.
Great how to video. I run a side hustle taxidermy buisness as well and do roughly 100 skulls.y process is much the same as yours but in the whiting process I add heat. Just like processing hair under a heat dryer it activates the developer. I make my paste with Basic white and 40 volume apply it to the skull and then wrap it in a plastic grocery bag and place it near a jet heater for about 15 minutes. Wash and the sun dry. White as paper everytime as long as they are decreased well.
Great video!!! Very well done! I recently have started doing my own skulls and a few on the side for extra money. I have always boiled my skulls but started using a hot pressure washer. What a huge game changer. They are not cheap but it makes the process go way faster. No need to boil anymore. If you are doing 500 skulls it may be worth looking into. Keep up the great work!!
Hello! I just watched your video on the methods you perform upon whitening your deer & elk skulls. I have done 3 to date that turned out really well except for the fact that it took me hours of painstakingly amount of tedious work getting to all the holes, cracks & nasal area trying to brush off the dried creme that I'd brushed on it's entirety while cussing myself out loud for being so picky. I did not know that I could of easily just power washed it all off instead. Boy, am I glad that I ran into your video as I've got 2 skulls of a friend's son that I said I'd do starting tonight. I really appreciate you both taking your time and your expertise, to share them with others such as myself. It's really going to help me out in the long run. Thankyou again and good hunting to you this fall. Sincerely; John C. Hill
Looks like a lot of hard work. If it works for you that's what counts. You tried someone else's way it didn't work out so stick to the way that works for you. Take care and stay safe. GOD BLESS Y'ALL.
Awesome video thanks for sharing! Im going to try cleaning and bleaching some dead heads i picked up this hunting season. I'm a hairdresser, and the bleaching powder/peroxide is reactive to metal so if you can use plastic tools with it you wont run into issues with having rusted brushes. Also, kitchen scale is a game changer with measuring and mixing your bleach. Saves a lot of headache. Thanks!
I do lots of elk- and the best way found for them is to boil them in liquid peroxide- they are greasier creatures who seem to benefit from that extra hot peroxide mixture. I've had success- same as you- with the peroxide cream mixture on deer.
We don't disagree about th elk. The problem we ran into this year is we couldn't find the liquid peroxide within 100 miles of us. So, we had to resort to the cream for the elk.
Early season, it gets frozen and goes into the garbage. Late season we don't freeze it. We have multiple rolling cans and we can only fill then about half way or they are to heavy to move.
I’ve used the hair bleach in the past. Tried peroxide this year on a few. I dislike having to touch up antlers but like that the peroxide goes to the inside of the skull.
I love the idea of using the sun and will try it this year with the ones I’m doing but it’s time of year we don’t get much sun. Usually raining or snowing😑
I just used plain water in a pot, power washed it after, then a little more boiling like 30 minute, elmers glue for the snout/ nose bones because they normally detach from boiling, all purpose hydrogen peroxide for a few days inside the brain cavity hole to rid the smell, and it's good to go. Mop n glo for a sealer so dust doesn't build up in the skull pores and that's it.
Hey guys I am a taxidermist here in wisconsin. I use pretty much same method as you minus powerwasher also I leave my ears in tact. But anyways was going to give you a pointer that I do with teeth, take a small wire brush to them before whitening your teeth will come out white as your skull.
My son wants to do this and of course, I will be helping him. My questions are: how do you dispose of the fleshing, soap/water/whitener? Thank you, your videos are very informative.
I''m doing a bison head that I buried for a few months. Power washed and soaked in oxyclean and soapy water to disinfect. Am using your paste method and the skull is slowly whitening in the sun with repeaded coatings. Was very yellow and stained from being in the ground. Would boil it next time to stop some of the ground staining. Thanks for sharing your process.
Man I'd love to see ya make a Playlist on you freedom mount business. Would love to see how you guys crank so many out any tips and all that. Thanks for these videos man can't wait to start my own thing.
Great video... Lots of good tips. Have you considered getting a small pre-fab greenhouse to keep your skulls in while you're sunning/heating during the peroxide stage? It might improve your results on colder but still sunny days. Thanks again for your video!
Y'all are awesome, whew that's a lot of work. Thank you for the video it was very informative and relatively easy to understand the what and why's. Many Blessings to y'all.
great video, I live upstate ny and do heads my self, wish I could put my heads out in the sun but this time of year there isn’t much of it and lot of snow on the ground. I boil with oxy clean and it seems to make the heads pretty white once I’m done pressure washing, I let them dry by the wood stove for about a week and I do the same whitening process. many ways to skin a cat👍🏻
Great video. I tried this method on a mule deer skull and it turned out great except for one mistake. I used a blue SOS pad to clean the skull off right before using the whitening powder and peroxide paste. The raised joint right between the antlers on the top of the skull somehow got the blue soap from the SOS pad deep in the bone joints and stained it blue. I have tried scrubbing it with peroxide for a couple of days with no luck. Any ideas how to remove these deep blue stains?
I'm having to pick and scrape little pieces of remaining stuff after boiling and pressure washing. Specifically at the crest of the back of the skull and behind where ear buds used to be. What's the deal? Am I not boiling long enough? Not pressure washing enough? Is there anyway possible to leave nasal cavity and clean it out all the way? I really like the look of it in there but am struggling with that too.
Most likely, not boiling long enough. However, you have to be very careful not to boil to long as it can cause damage to the bone. There is a fine line that with trial and error you will learn. The only way to leave the nasal cavity in, and also getting all the meat behind it, is maceration or bettles.
I think it boils down to a matter of preference. For me, wrapping horns, simmering, then touching up horns as needed is more labor intensive. With the volume of heads we do, this process works the best for us.
Thank you for your step by step instructions! I’m going to try the brain removal before boiling next season. I’ve never tried the powder before. I just paint on the cream bleach. I’ll give that a try next season too. Thank you for all your tricks and tips 🤩
2 questions. At 9:43, how big is the scoop you use for the powder and the 40 cream? And also, do you recommend covering the skull with seram wrap after painting the cream/powder mixture to the skull?
Based on the video, she mentions it is a coffee scoop. Most of those are 1/8 of a cup. I am guessing the ratio is more important than the actual size of the scoop. 2 to 1 , cream to powder
Do you paint it on thick or just lightly brush on I used 2 scoops and 4 scoops to do 2 skulls and finished it all but did outside in sun and seemed to get real frothy. Does that diminish its results, should I do this process out of sun so doesn’t start its activation till I’m done and place in direct sun ? What is your suggestions & Thank You ahead of time y’all are awesome 🤙🏼
I typically do the "painting" inside. Then, if the sun is out, they go right outside. You are correct, the sun activated the mixture. It doesn't hurt anything, and won't diminish the results. There are times when we do batches at night, I paint on the cream, leave them in the shop, and don't put them out in the sun until the next day. Once the sunlight hits them, you will see the cream froth up like it did when you were outside. I always count this as a good sign. It means the ratio is correct, and the sun is activating it.
I do all my own. I’ve always boiled in peroxide. Turns out great and cover ever surface inside and out. But this year I was out of town and had to settle for oxyclean. Think it was the whites skull I’ve ever done.
8 years ago we Tobin wanted to find a hobby that included hunting. It was a way to make extra income because at the time we were a 1 income household. From there he grew it every season, and now we did close to 500 heads.
Hi! So ive done a couple of mounts but on my last ones i got some old heads that had been lying around for a couple years and after boiling them and whitening there is still some yellow in the wiggly cracks on top of the head and other places I'm wondering how i can get rid of that and make everything nice and white
How long do you boil the skull the first time. One video said 20-30 min till skin splits in forehead and then another video you mention 3 hours of boiling. The second time in clean water how long for that boil and is that with the same amount of soap?
How did y’all know what noise peace goes with what Deer or does it really matter I’ve always been super cautious not the damaged the nose, or for it not to come off but I see y’all take those off not a bad ideal 😊Go ahead and get it out of the way that way it don’t break. I use super glue to glue it back with what do y’all use? I think you’re very professional doing what you do.
Thanks for sharing this information It was very informative . Do you think this whitening technique will work well on older skulls that have been buried in the ground to remove hide and meat? The dirt seems to darken or stain the skull.
How long does it take to degrease? I boiled a head last year in dawn and then whitened with the paste. Grease showed up in several places a year later. What did i do wrong?
I WAS LOOKIN FOR SOMETHIN ELSE. AS I SCROLLED DOWN I READ THE HEADLINE FINALLY Y'ALL USE THE WORD I'V ALWAYS USED. We have a video on how to mount a head on a plaque, check out our taxidermy playlist. If you are wanting to start doing it as a business I would do research in your area on prices.
I may have missed it but Im doing my first two Euro mounts here in the next day or two (I already skinned them). How long do you initially boil them for?
To many variables to give a good answer. If you skinned them and let them dry out, it will take longer. If they are older animals, it will take longer. If they are very young, it will not take long at all. Etc.
Love this video, you both did great on explaining the process step by step. My question to you is, What would you recommend doing to a whitetail buck skull that’s 3-4 years old? It’s my son’s first buck and he’s wanting me to do a euro mount with it and I’ve never done one before. All of the skin, hair, flesh and meat is off of it, I just put it in a bucket and let the insects eat it all off, it’s never been boiled and the skull is kind of a brown and some spots it’s a darker brown color. What process do you recommend I do to get it whitened up and do I still need to boil the skull? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!
You will need to degrease it first and boiling is probably not the best way. You might try soaking it in a bucket of water for a long amount of time and see if some of the brown color comes out
@@erinloyd5535 I was just about to ask if Dawn will work. I’m a mechanic and that’s what I use to clean greasy parts sometimes and I always use it to wash my hands.
I got it all finished up. It looks great but it stinks bad. Did I not degrease it enough? I did maceration and then degreased in dawn and boiling water.
@@shannonwatson8358 what stinks? The bone or the antlers? If it's the antlers clean them with a scrub brush and 50/50 ammonia/fabuloso. It may take several times. The whitener should take away all smell on the bone, if you got all the little hard to get spots.
Hey I have a question. I recently skinned a deer head and let it sit in a buck for about 2 days. When I took it out today, the horns were stained from the water/blood. How do I get this off? I’m about to start the boiling process
If it is small specks, that a q-tip and dip it in the cream peroxide and dab it on. Leave it for a day. Wipe it off. If that doesn't work, you will have to rewhiten the whole skull.
It does dry and harden but easily comes off with water hose or power washer. If it does get on the antlers while rinsing it doesn't stay long enough to cause a problem.
I’ve been scouring euromount vids for days now. This vid is excellent! Do you guys seal the skull with anything after whitening process? Many recommend mop and glo. Thanks!
I just did the mop and glo for the first time. It seems to work really well. I did it on a plain white deer skull and a painted horse and cow skull. How it affects the paint if any remains to be seen. It didn't affect it while I was brushing it on.
No, you need a whitener powder & cream for it to produce the whitest product. We tried using just the cream and it didn't work. Yes, we use electric powerwashers.
On a recent video, we attached a Gopro to the power washer but it didn't go as planned. Back to the drawing board. Once we get it figured out we will post a video.
Your Guys are Great, Impressed with your Work Effort, and Ingenuity…. I have learned Some-Much…. I’m a hobbie-guy and enjoy doing Are own skulls…. Thank You Again…
Get some sal soda or soda ash (sodium carbonate) and add about a cup to your first pot of water you are boiling your heads in, it will soften up the meat and tissue and make it much easier to power wash off. You’ll thank me later. Great video btw.
What is a fair price y'all charge? Just starting out i'm charging $60 for deer, $75 for hogs, and $45 for bobcats. Are those fair prices for me? Florida Average is $175 for Euros
I feel like that is a good starting price, until you are established. We stated at a lower price point when we first started. Once we were more established we came up. Our prices are still $50-$75 cheaper than most around our area. Only because we do so many we can keep the cost down.
Do you think this whitening process is more expensive than the one you have been doing? And do you have any tips to on how to get all the flesh out of the little pocket at the very end of the brain cavity? That’s the only part I struggle with
Rubber stall mat or a piece of carpet to keep the antlers from getting concrete rash... Pet peeve lol.
Honestly we have never had a problem with that.
I've been using ya'lls process since the beginning....everything ya'll do is on the money and both you two do a great job of explaining it. Thank you very much and keep up the taxidermy videos.

Have y’all tried putting a heat lamp over the skulls the same red heat lamp you use for baby chicks for another heat source
We have not. Those lamps get extremely hot, and if you aren't careful it could burn the bone. The best heat source we have found is the sun.
Wrapping a grocery bag or some sort of clear plastic around the scull during the whitening process really helps
👍

Maybe soak it in liquid peroxide...
Nice video. What brand of gas burners are you using to boil? I like that they sit so close to the ground and seem very stable.

8 years ago we Tobin wanted to find a hobby that included hunting. It was a way to make extra income because at the time we were a 1 income household. From there he grew it every season, and now we did close to 500 heads.
Good job ...looks good
Not exactly sure on the size but you can buy them at most hardware and feed stores and they come in different sizes.
Hi! I would let them soak in water for several weeks or even months the try to re whiten
Have you tried wrapping the head after pasting it 🤔
Yes it does help. We are currently doing 60+ per week so it's not practical to do it on that many.
I PAINT MINE WITH A HIGH QUALITY FLAT,OR SEMI GLOSS WHITE ACRYLIC SPRAY PAINT,AFTER MANY YEARS THE STILL LOOK PERFECT !
Hi Tobin. Hope you and the family are doing well. You are such a hard worker and great provider for your family. What a messy job 😖
Thanks, Jodi. That is a wonderful compliment.
How long do you boil the skull the first time. One video said 20-30 min till skin splits in forehead and then another video you mention 3 hours of boiling. The second time in clean water how long for that boil and is that with the same amount of soap?
20-30 mins at a rolling boil, but it could take 2-3 hours for a head to be ready to powerwash. The second time, usually 30 mins.
Where do you get those bigger pots when boiling?
Tractor Supply use to carry them, but haven't as of recent. Home Depot sometimes carry them. We are actually having a hard time finding them now.
How do u know who’s deer is who’s when u do so many deer ? Yeah photos but some deer are very similar almost twins
nice work!! i use a spray bottle to get in the nose area works well and it get in all the crevasses, i take all the nose parts as well

Cool Enjoyed 😆
Thanks for the visit
Great video. Thank you. How do you match up the teeth and noses to the head and what do you use to reattach them?

It does mstter. They fit like a puzzle piece. Don't glue any until you are sure they are all right.
Great info thank you for your time!! Curious what size pot you use to boil? 100 or 80 QT?
Not sure the size, we get it at our local Tractor Supply or Atwoods. One pot can hold 4-5 heads at a time.
Where do you get your pots you boil in
Tractor supply or Atwoods
What glue do you use when repairing the skulls and putting teeth back on?
Super glue
what is the name (brand) of the large metal containers that you boil the heads in? Thanx
Not sure the brand name, but we buy them from Home Depot. Back in he garden section,
Arent the nose pieces that fall out...specific to each deer skull to fit back properly?
Yes, they should fit like a puzzle piece.
200 watt heat lamp may work for heat source
Do you have any videos of you gluing the noses back on?
No, but that would be a good one. We will add that in!
I've had success with just Elmer's glue. You just need a little bit and it works great.
What do u use for boiling pots and where do u get them?
Galvanized tubs, Tractor Supply, Atwood’s, Home Depot, etc.
Thanks for sharing this information It was very informative . Do you think this whitening technique will work well on older skulls that have been buried in the ground to remove hide and meat? The dirt seems to darken or stain the skull.
It may take a couple rounds, and may not be as white as others that aren't buried, but it can be done.
Which one works better for the whiting the past or the peroxide?
Just being nosy 😂
This current process is much easier and time efficient.
Would a couple of heat lamps work in a small inclosed building?
How long does it take to degrease? I boiled a head last year in dawn and then whitened with the paste. Grease showed up in several places a year later. What did i do wrong?

You might try soaking it in a bucket of water for a long amount of time and see if some of the brown color comes out
@@OurTopPinLifesoak with dawn dish soap
@@erinloyd5535 I was just about to ask if Dawn will work. I’m a mechanic and that’s what I use to clean greasy parts sometimes and I always use it to wash my hands.
@@RacinJosh72yep I do some mechanic work as well works awesome. Does real good on skulls also
When you put the skulls in water, do you add soap, or is it just clean water?
Just water
Doing with dawn dish soap helps a lot
What do you charge per deer skull , Thank you ..
$125. Plaques cost extra. But, that is a going rate in our area. Some locations are more some are less.
If you can't finish after initial boil can you just let skull dry before you whiten or keep in water until you whiten
If it's 100% clean you can let it dry, if not I would keep it in water.
@5M Family Homestead thanks. I just got it clean the something came up so couldn't finish
Thanks for quick response
Do you put anything on the mounts after you are through with the whitening?
No
I spray mop and Glo for your floors and let it dry 24 hours to me seals the bone get rid of a smell and they won’t collect dust or fingerprints👍🏻
How do I get wood stain off my deer skull??
If it is small specks, that a q-tip and dip it in the cream peroxide and dab it on. Leave it for a day. Wipe it off. If that doesn't work, you will have to rewhiten the whole skull.
Are you able to buy the powder online?
Not sure we buy it locally.
I bet they use those bug assault guns at 7:25 regularly killing flies
Yep
I have some 40 volume but no powder. How does it work it just the 40 volume cream?
Does the paste try to hard if its left on to long. Do you have to worry about the paste getting on the horns when your rinsing
It does dry and harden but easily comes off with water hose or power washer. If it does get on the antlers while rinsing it doesn't stay long enough to cause a problem.
Good to know thanks for the reply
How do you replace the teeth when they fall out
Super glue
@@OurTopPinLife okay thanks, how did u get business from a processor. How do i go by asking them in my area
Tooth brush for the nose cavity?
Good idea
Do you keep your. Skulls hydrated until it's time to bleach. It? Thxs
Yes
I’ve been scouring euromount vids for days now. This vid is excellent! Do you guys seal the skull with anything after whitening process? Many recommend mop and glo. Thanks!
We do not
I just did the mop and glo for the first time. It seems to work really well. I did it on a plain white deer skull and a painted horse and cow skull. How it affects the paint if any remains to be seen. It didn't affect it while I was brushing it on.
@@l.h.1238 yes, I used it as well. It took a while to air out the smell, but that’s no biggie
Can you do it with just the cream? And is that electric powerwasher. Thanks, I really liked this video
No, you need a whitener powder & cream for it to produce the whitest product. We tried using just the cream and it didn't work. Yes, we use electric powerwashers.
A toothbrush will get in the nasal cavity. A closer look at the pressure washer step would be nice
On a recent video, we attached a Gopro to the power washer but it didn't go as planned. Back to the drawing board.
Once we get it figured out we will post a video.
What do you add with the water in the boil?
Clear dish soap
Thank you!
This doesn’t remove color from the antlers ?
Who do y’all get to make yalls hats
Snyder Custom Threads in Ponder Texas.
Thank you for the reply that was fast god bless y’all
You can’t buy one pound bags anymore so what are you using now
We are using Clairall B2W
Do you guys seal with anything after whitening. I see some using mop an glo. Would quick shine work as well?
Thanks
We do not add anything to seal.
Like and subscribe thank you tomorrow👍
👍👍👍
Your Guys are Great, Impressed with your Work Effort, and Ingenuity…. I have learned Some-Much…. I’m a hobbie-guy and enjoy doing
Are own skulls…. Thank You Again…
Get some sal soda or soda ash (sodium carbonate) and add about a cup to your first pot of water you are boiling your heads in, it will soften up the meat and tissue and make it much easier to power wash off. You’ll thank me later. Great video btw.
I’ll have to try this. I’ve always used Borax.
I'll agree with gary, sal soda works great.
Good to know! We will give it a whirl.
what kind of degreaser are you putting in the boiling pots?
Clear Ivory but any dish soap will work
What is a fair price y'all charge? Just starting out i'm charging $60 for deer, $75 for hogs, and $45 for bobcats. Are those fair prices for me? Florida Average is $175 for Euros
I feel like that is a good starting price, until you are established. We stated at a lower price point when we first started. Once we were more established we came up. Our prices are still $50-$75 cheaper than most around our area. Only because we do so many we can keep the cost down.
@@OurTopPinLife thank you
Is the powder mostly for sticking it to the skull? Or is there a different reason
It does make the cream thicker but it also activates the cream and makes it work much better.
@@OurTopPinLife gotchya so does it make it stronger?
@@OutdoorExperiences yes
Good work. Where do you get your pots?
Tractor Supply and Wal Mart.
Do Not Boil!! Simmer.
Boiling is fine in short amount of times. Simmering takes way too long and is unnecessary
@shelbyshinkle5552 short period yes but does cook grease into skull. 20 year taxidermist
Amen 🙏🙏😂
Exactly, simmer is the word
Do you think this whitening process is more expensive than the one you have been doing?
And do you have any tips to on how to get all the flesh out of the little pocket at the very end of the brain cavity? That’s the only part I struggle with
If it is more expensive it's not much more.
One word... Powerwasher
@@OurTopPinLife and do you think i turns on looking better the new way or is it the same?
@@bowman2574 I think I could hold one from each process side by side and no one could tell the difference.
