    I've had a Pro Junior now for about 25 years. With my SG, a Tube Screamer and a Vox Wah-Wah, I get Nazare sized vibe that keeps me satisfied. I really don't need much more.

    Yes! Some love for the Pro Jr! It was the first tube amp I bought years ago and I only bought it because it was slightly cheaper than a Blues Jr. I am glad that I did, because you are right Budda this amp sounds fantastic. Love your channel, learning a lot from you. Congrats on passing 1,000 keep up the great work.

    Yeah I agree this amp rocks. Great for a practise or rehearsals . At gigs I’ll mic it, and as a rule of thumb only do when the drums are mic’d. I love using my volume pot to create the desired distortion gain it adds so much more to your versatility instead of an array of on and off pedals. Its a lite weight plug and play amp. With killer tones. My whole setup fits in the front seat of a car. And I only got do one easy walk from the car to the gig. It was my best kept secret hehe. Its only down fall it as a bedroom amp it’s way to loud to reach the gain. So I use a noise gate. Thanks for the tip about the treble bleed ill give it a shoot on my les paul. But my tele has heaps of treble. Between that amp and my guitar tone knobs the combo is perfection.

    Nicely done! The FPJ is one of those amps that continues to punch way above it's weight, so to speak. I've had FIVE of these bad boys; bottom line is if the Fender Pro Jr. is good enough for Jeff Beck (R.I.P.), then it's good enough for me! Buy one!

    I have one from the 1st series back in 1993. It's still going strong, and it drives a separate 2 x 12 cab no problem. I have it sounding like an old Marshall. Simple tube amp is all you need. Just add a couple of pedals.. awesome amp.

    For whatever reason mine sounded so “ice-picky” I eventually sold it and bought a Fender Champion 600. I liked the sound of the 600 however it would not breakup or get very loud. It eventually blowup on me. I now have a Blackstar HT5R combo. I luv this amp!

Once I had the blues jr but prefer the pro, I don't need all the EQ in the blues jr model . Love the bottom end on these amps. Had some great Jimi tones going on in this clip.

    I bought pro junior few weeks ago. It's early 90's model with new tubes on it. It has the same quiet spot between 2 and 3 in the volume pot just like yours. Played it mostly with Fender strat and tele and i think SHE IS A TONE BEAST! From beautiful cleans to slight break up to full roar just by using the guitars volume knob and playing dynamics. I like to use Boss fdr-1 reverb in front of it, gives some space to the playing. This amp likes od-pedals too but i think there is no real need for extra dirt boxes. It's pretty damn loud, but not too loud to crank it up to 12 if you like. Glad that i bought this lovely little amp. Thanks for the great channel Budda!

    • @BuddaGuedes
      @BuddaGuedes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree 100% with all of your words. I also use the Frv1 or the strymon Flint with it and it’s killer.

    • @olafhenke5654
      @olafhenke5654 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, is it loud enough to jam with a drum and a bass player? Do you have to crank it up a lot? Thanks

    • @BuddaGuedes
      @BuddaGuedes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If course it depends on the the drummer and bass player you’re playing with. But it’s an ok loud amp. It’s not a super clean amp because it starts to overdrive pretty soon but it reacts super good to the Guitar’s volume knob, so you can clean it. It’s a great blues and rock amp.

    • @terojarvenpaa5215
      @terojarvenpaa5215 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is loud but of course its a small amp and there is not so much clean headroom. When you crank it up to noon you can clean it up with guitars volume pot and it nicely pushes very dynamic and inspiring clean sound. You can add the grit very accurately with the pot and picking force. As all good tube amps it's somehow very revealing and honest, if you are in good playing mood it sings with you, if you have a bad day, it follows you to there. As Budda answered for the question, is it loud enough with bass and drums, it depends how loud those guys are playing in your band. Only way to find it out is to try it with your band. I hope this helps...

    Hi Budda, I one of these Pro Juniors from 1993 I think. I took it out of my original blonde cab and put it into a 1x12 Peter mather cab by Mather cabs in the states. I put an old 60's Utah speaker in the cab. It sounds killer with that cab and speaker. I actuaprefer it much more to the stock speaker and cab. I was amazed at how good this amp sounds through a Deluxe style 1x12 tweed cab by Mather cabs. If you heard it, I'm sure you would agree. Never really liked the stock blonde cab and speaker. Nice demo. My AMP never sounded like yours though. I did put an adjustable bias pot in my AMP along with a magnetic components OUTPUT transformer in it. It sounds great. Cheers Michael Newell from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

    • @michel333100
      @michel333100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Budda, I forgot to mention that these amps are biased a little too hot, and by adding an adjustable bias pot it gives the AMP a lot more clarity and the overdrive is much better. These small mini blue pots are easy to install on the circuit board. But honestly, the tone is improved a 100% more. I believe on the net the mods are by a guy in the states named Bill M pro junior mods.

    Best Pro Jr. review on YT, Budda. And very well produced, as usual with your channel quality. About that rattle: it's the power tubes, part of the amp's tone until you swap those tubes. As for modding the amp, I would only swap the speaker to match stage db's and/or fine tune amp's final character. (in other words try an Emi Lil Buddy next time you have the chance). Keep it up, my 2c

    Yes they are great little amps. I have had 4 of them over the years . Still have one actually.
    They are unfortunately really sensitive to bad power supply. They will hum where other amps don't. I try different pre-amp tubes until I arrive at a combination that does not hum and crackle too much.
    Mark3 seems to be better built. They all have developed heat related problems.
    To summarize : a great amp that could have been built better.
    great review otherwise, as always

    Treble bleed is cool but you should try 50’s Gibson wiring. I do it on Stratocaster and it is wonderful.

    • @BuddaGuedes
      @BuddaGuedes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean about doing a Gibson Wiring on a Strat? I'm curious.

    • @arnolddealiii4259
      @arnolddealiii4259 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gibson wired their guitars differently than Fender did back in 50's, it is refereed to as 50's wiring. Today Fender, Gibson, and about everybody else do what is refereed to as Modern wiring. Basically the difference is in the order of which control pot is first in the circuit. Modern wiring always has the tone control first in the circuit, this gives you excellent control over the tone control even when you lower the volume of the guitar. The trade off is you have to use a treble bleed mod to retain your high end frequency when you turn the volume pot down.
      In 50's wiring, the Volume pot comes first in the circuit so the volume retains all its frequencies on the entire audio taper of the pot. So no treble loss when you turn down, but the the trade off is the tone control isn't as predictable.
      Seymour Duncan has diagrams you can follow that will show you how to do this mod to Gibson type or Fender type guitars, just search their site under the support column. I found that treble bleeds send much more treble frequency than the 50's wiring when you turn down, but I think treble bleed sounds brighter wide open anyway. Just something to tinker with, no rights and wrongs. Just what sounds good to you!

    Thank you for this demonstration! I've been searching through all the options, which are endless (it seems) for a good home practice tube amp that won't blow out the neighbours or the kids. Right now I'm running a Boss Katana 50 (MK1) and I love it so much, but I want the real deal, even though I've never owned a tube amp before! Crazy, I know. Anyway, I've watched so many TH-cam videos that I may be developing option paralysis, honestly, but somehow I keep coming back to this amp. It seems to be one that most folks can agree on, more or less, where all the others seem to invite more discussion. Do you think this would make a good first tube amp, after all?

    • @BuddaGuedes
      @BuddaGuedes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a great amp for sure, I’m just not sure if it is a great first tube amp. It’s a rock amp for me or a simple basic clean tone, bit not really in the fender territory. It makes me think more of a marshal or vox tone. If you like those tones its a great amp. If you’re looking for fender clean, go with the blues junior or the princeton

      @@BuddaGuedes Thanks for your reply! The guy at my local guitar shop mentioned this one, unprompted, as a great option too. I do love the Blues Junior, though I've yet to play a Princeton. @@BuddaGuedes True, I knew that, I was just thinking since I was familiar with the Boss Katana already, the TM would feel somewhat familiar going in, though with those cherished Fender clean tones!
      I'm basically looking for a home practice amp, but I have two small kids, and close neighbours, so I can't go huge sound... but at low volume (nothing past 2 or 3) I could probably rock a Pro Junior, Blues Junior, AC15, Bassbreaker... I thought about AC4... but I'm honestly stuck. There are so many options, and it's all subjective, and I love them all, and when I go to the guitar shop I enjoy them all. But if I'm going to drop cash, in these times, I want it to be the one that fits long-term. Researching these things is how I found your channel (and subscribed). Thanks for everything you do!

    Hi Budda, Pedro here again.
    Would you recommend the FPJ as a practice amp? I'm way more interested in the clean tones rather than the cranked ones.
    Does the OD break early or late on this amp?
    I was kind of undecided between this amp and the vox Ac4tv, but for the purposes I told you I think the FPJ is the way to go.
    Thanks a lot. Greetings from Brazil.

    So the cleans are sparkly around 1-2 and gets dirty after that? I'm looking for a good small tube amp for cleans. I have a VoxAC4TV right now and its just that classic rock grit British tone. I want something for cleans to go with it. Maybe getting a 1x12 cab will help the pro jr not break up as soon.

    • @BuddaGuedes
      @BuddaGuedes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the Vox AC4 TV as well, and love it. However, I just bought a Pro Jr. and it's great. Very clean. It will reveal every mistake made, which for me is a good thing as it forces me to improve. I wouldn't part with either amp, they serve different purposes. Both great sounding amps.
