The majority of human beings thrive when they feel they are understood, valued and cared for. The study of human behavior has been invaluable in helping us understand ourselves and others. This study further supports failure to thrive and it's causes. It also gives those who care about themselves and others insight into at least one element of why relationships fail or become less than fulfilling over a period of time. Thank you S. Algoe I needed to hear this. You have inspired me to take a look at my behavior, my input into all of my interactions with others. I sincerely appreciate your information and video.

A relationship I ended was exactly because, like I told them, I didn't feel like they felt grateful for anything. They said they were, but it was never shown or felt. It was very much to the point of feeling rejected and sad. By the time the topic came up, I had already made up my mind and was seeing someone else. It's not about voicing gratitude, but realizing your partner's love language and responding to it in a way that shows gratitude in a language they speak. Saying something is only for Words of Affirmation types, whereas Quality Time people like me just think of it as big talk without anything to show for it.

(thinking about SACRIFICING!!!) "No man, u can´t come, I´m running! and that is far more important than spending time with you or sex or chatting, Actually ur kinda of irrelevant" -"Ok darling I´ll come and run with you after this three minutes of crying"-- That´s COLD, You can do better man.

It's very foolhardy to suggest that something like human relationships are something we should study with science. It can lead to lots of "interesting" data totally lacking in wisdom or understanding. Literature, poetry, philosophy etc are far better suited for this type of inquiry. But I guess we need to put people through school to keep the economy going, create jobs, make work.
