Erev Rosh Hashanah Sermon: Rabbi Jen Lader on Togetherness (Oct. 2, 2024)

During Erev Rosh Hashanah services at Temple Israel (West Bloomfield, Mich.), Rabbi Jen Lader provided a sermon on togetherness. In her sermon, Rabbi Lader shared a story of two villages who kept traditions but never knowing the other existed on other side of a tall wall.
In a wild moment of coincidence the two villages came together - the people on either side were stunned; they were friends and family. In that moment, they knew they could be better and together. They tore down the wall and people celebrated side by side.
After that, every Rosh Hashanah they looked forward to celebrating together and they held on to that gratitude going forward. At this time, it is too important to be divided, important to be together, that we must tear down the walls and spend time with one another particularly in our sacred space.
