This is the furthest from a cookie cutter ballad of the time. This song was massive.

I love it so much because I had an amazing girlfriend and good times when this song came out... I wonder if I would have liked it as much if I heard it for the first time today? Probably not. I think objectively there are just so many other great power ballads that are better. Part of the issue with this song is that it sort of starts out slow and doesn't really kick in until the end - I still love it but I understand that it's linked to my memories of the time.

@@mnn1265the story in this song isn’t your normal heartbreak, and makeup power ballad. The girl in this song DIED. That’s why the guy is shattered. He’s homeless and lost everything. He peers into the cemetery a couple of times at her grave.

@@stevenewcomer8837 I agree steven, it's a powerful piece of music but again, I personally am a big fan but I think context matters greatly. It's probably the same reason I do not appreciate some of the greatest, heart-wrenching, and critically acclaimed opera of our time. Just as deep as this particular song but I do not have the context to enjoy it as others do - they probably cannot fathom how it is that I do not recognize its greatness... yet I do not. I understand through analogically.

WASTED TIME really shows Sebastian's voice IMO. He wrote this song about his friend, former drummer of Guns and Roses Steve Adler. He was heavily addicted to heroin. 😢

They didn't say he couldn't sing. They said the song wasn't good enough for his singing. They are right and this wasn't a song skid row wrote to be them. They wrote it to get a quick hit as they said it's cookie cutter. They need to listen to other songs to see what Skid Row actually was. THey all said he could sing just the song was wrong to feel good about it.

Sebastian Bach. His vocals are legendary. And… he still tours as a solo artist. To truly appreciate his vocal power, please react to Wasted Time. That’s the something extra…. Also, this song was written by Skid Row BEFORE, Sebastian joined Skid Row. Wasted Time was written by Skid Row with Sebastian and its about his best friend, Steven Adler, the original drummer for Guns and Roses. Adler was an extreme heroin addict and was fired from GNR after the first album. Wasted time is incredibly powerful and Sebastian shows how much he misses the friendship as he watches Adler get deeper into addiction. That’s the power!

I loved "I Remember You " when I was 12, and it is one of those impossible karaoke songs, but I do understand why it's not impressive when looked at vs. the full catalog of power ballads. Early hair metal in the 80's formed on the Sunset Strip in L.A. playing in clubs like the Whiskey and Rainbow. Bands like Ratt, Poison, Motely Crue and Van Halen started off and more followed. Skid Row was actually helped by Jon Bon Jovi. John knew Dave "The Snake" Sabo, who is a founding member of the band Skid Row and Jon got his manager Doc McGhee to help them. But the band was/is talented on its own. But Sebastian Bach's incredible vocal chops made this band special. The guy can sing! His range is incredible and unlike many of the hair bands at the time, this band wrote about social issue topics, more so than sex, drugs & rock n roll, which were pretty formulaic at the time for most hair bands. They took on issues like suicide, drugs etc.

I wonder if he said it was "non-rememberable" because of the song title? Obviously these guys are definitely NOT into the love story emotional type songs...!?

They were more concerned with the way they looked than the music, hence the era called “hair bands”. Low quality song writing to just push out albums and make $. Within a year of this song coming out that whole cookie cutter hair band era got stomped out by grunge, which made the 90’s a great music era for rock

You guys have to see Wasted Time, if you want to hear A+ from them. Also Monkey Business. Shows their real selves and talent, has much deeper meaning, less commercial.

You are not gonna get anymore "extra" than rom Sebastian Bach. I love all hair metal but his voice was unmatched. Try Wasted Time or Monkey Business.

If you want to see what Sebastian Bach's voice can really do , then you need to check out Skid Row's songs Wasted Time & Quicksand Jesus .

The singer is Canadian. He ran into John Bon Jovi's parents at a wedding. He joined the wedding band for a tune and Bon Jovi's folks approached him, saying their son's friends were looking for a singer. That is the NJ connection. JBJ being from Jersey.

The biggest attraction to this song for me and I'm sure many others is Sebastian Bach's vocals. His voice, range and power really did stand out in an era pretty full of extremely talented singers. I gotta admit though that "you said 'I love you babe' without a sound" might be the most 80's line I've ever heard in a song. 😊

I totally agree about this song being a B-. I'm not sure I'd give it that much, just because I'm a true fan of the band, and I was never impressed with this song. I felt like it was too generic and commercial. But the lead singer, Sebastian Bach, is actually one of the best rock vocalists you'll hear. You should react to Wasted Time. First of all, it's a real song, with a real message, and it really shows what he can do.

The worst diss in this entire video is comparing Skid Row to the Backstreet Boys. I do think this is not their best work. 18 And Life, Wasted Time, Youth Gone Wild are all better songs.

Damn, y’all gotta be kidding me. That voice is great. This and the band Firehouse had the best power ballads. With their song Don’t treat me bad. This is a must listen. I’d like to know which power ballads that you’ve heard, that’s better than this one? Even vocal coach reactors did a reaction to I remember you, and gave it great reviews.

I believe if y'all would have done 18 and life 1st Y'all would have enjoyed it way more. I thought the song was good but I kind of agree it came out many years after most power ballads so it was a formula that's already been duplicated a lot was a disadvantaged.

Every album had to have a power ballad at that time. A lot of them were songs from the record company. It got so predictable that you could tell every album was going to drop to regular songs and then a power ballad.

  • @soccerdad2539
    @soccerdad2539 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Not really a power ballad but the vocals alone make it a great song. If you all think this sounds the same as other vocalists you weren't listening😮

LOL this isn't skid row. This is one of the songs on their first album they wrote just to get their name out there and you're absolutely right it was cookie cutter and they knew that when they made it. Some of their other songs like slave to the grind is more accurate to show what the band was actually like. This was one written just to get people to listen to them.

Hey, Gentlemen...I love your channel. Here is some information that I thought you all would love. Skid Row American Band is phenomenal but is not the original Skid Row. The original Skid Row, was an Irish blues rock band of the late 1960s and early 1970s, based in Dublin and fronted by bass guitarist Brendan "Brush" Shiels. It was the first band in which Phil Lynott and Gary Moore played professionally before finding greater fame with Thin Lizzy.
To make a long story short, It was reported that in 1987, Jon Bon Jovi asked Gary Moore to sell the name 'Skid Row' to the American heavy metal band for $35,000 (Bon Jovi part-owns the music publishing rights of this band). Lead singer Sebastian Bach recalled,
When (Skid Row) got signed to Atlantic, Gary Moore heard about it and said we could have the name for $35,000 U.S. dollars. "We have to pay Gary Moore 35 grand to use the name," and so we bought the name from Gary Moore as a band. We were all glad to do it because it is a great name for a band. I remember saying, "Wow, that's a lot of $, but we gotta do it!"[13]
However, Shiels maintains that Moore simply referred the band to Shiels to discuss the rights to the name, but that it was never followed up. If you would like to read the rest of the story, follow the link below. Sadly, both Phil Lynott and Gary Moore are both deceased. What a huge loss for the music industry and those of Us who love them!

Also, Brenden Brush Shiels came up with the band name "Skid Row" due to the poor areas of Dublin Ireland. If you look at some of the photos of that time, You will see just how run down it was. Brush has also stated in his interviews that he chose Phil Lynott to join their band because he was always dressed nicely, and had a great voice. Bon Jovi made a great choice by purchasing the name for the American Band!
