There are two P50s in Kingsport. This one at Eastman, and an additional one at Domtar. The two P50s were maintained and controlled by Eastman for years until around 2010 when they were turned over to the city. These two P50s have been silent since around 2012 when they went from weekly tests (Saturday at noon, to monthly tests, to no tests). I have not heard the P50s since then and have been told by numerous officials that these have been abandon. The only siren still tested on Saturdays at noon is the Whelen electronic sirens operated by BAE (Holston Army Ammunition) heard in the background of this video. To my knowledge there is only one video on TH-cam of this siren sounding (I will link if I can find it). In the 1990s there were some thunderbolt sirens in the city, one of which was on the hose tower at fire station 2 (near Dobyns Bennett High School) this was removed in the early 2000s and the only thunderbolt that remains in the city limits is located at Rosevelt Elementary School and is also abandon and has been silent since the early 2000s. Last I saw it, there is also an old mechanical air raid siren on fire station 3 and a century siren on the Bloomingdale VFD.
I’ve seen the video of the p-50 going off and I want for sure if the one by the Ems station was operated by BAE systems but I knew the close up video I got of it up close it said “this is a test of the army ammunition warning system this is only a test” so I thought was one of Holston army ammunition plants siren and when I filmed it a security guard told me it was tested monthly
@@uhAverage th-cam.com/video/jpF088pGgKU/w-d-xo.html Yeah this is that video I was referencing of that P-50. Eastman only tests their internal “blue light” warning siren system monthly, there are no more public outdoor sirens sounded by Eastman as the city has moved toward reverse 911 and texting mass notifications. I believe the BAE sirens are tested weekly still but I only hear the voice message play occasionally. Back in 2012 or so I would sometimes hear the air horn tone from the Whelens. Not sure what they were using it for. Do you know anything on how the BAE sirens are activated? I assume they use some radio or cellular system but it seams that the time they actually sound for their test can be anywhere between 11:55 and 12:10 so it’s definitely not automatic. I am pretty sure the Eastman P50s were manually triggered as well when they were still sounded.
@@mpjvending Does the “blue light” warning siren sound like a horn? Because if so I have a video of it going off on my page also and the sirens at BAE systems are activated by security because when I went there I waited and a girl from the EMS station came out and got security to set it off and it did the wail tone and then a voice message and then in this video I heard the voice message play I just didn’t film long enough and Eastman security trucks came and asked me what I was doing filming and I told them which was pretty cool
Yea my phone is on 2% I got to type this fast so I was gonna get this one on video but I don’t know when it is tested so I took my chances and I tried it turns out that this one goes off the last Saturday of the month at noon in the process of recording security came up on us but they was very nice and he told us when this siren goes off
Kinda sad seeing the big ol bucket boi not be added to the system. Theres a town in texas with a P-10, darley, and a Whelen in the same system. What a waste.
The plant you are seeing is Eastman Chemical Company but the siren that you hear goes to an army ammunition plant right next to Eastman it was about a mile away from where I was recording because Eastman is a big place also after wail tone it does voice I just never capture it and when it does voice it will say “this is a test of the army ammunition outdoor warning system this is only a test”

Kingsport Tennessee is where Eastman is located btw
And if you wanna look for it on good maps go to Sullivan county EMS station 4 it’s right behind it
I can't find it 😔
