I’m also half Japanese half American and am currently growing up in America as a high schooler. Basically everything these interviewees say is spot on. Personally, I’m super grateful to be mixed race and for the opportunity to experience two very different cultures and be bilingual. My city has a lot of Japanese families moving over because of Honda. My ability to speak Japanese allowed me to help some of these guys out and make friends with them. I made my best friend this way in kindergarten, though she’s since moved back to Japan. Currently, I take Japanese as a course and it’s an easy A, which is a relief 😮💨 . I have to say though, that although my Japanese skills are enough to make relationships with other people, I struggle to strike conversation and make friends with them because of nervousness (ever since the pandemic ended), so I really want Japanese interactions but am too shy. I look pretty white, so every time I approach someone in Japanese, they always make a huge reaction and drag a lot of attention to it, which I do not like either 😅. I gotta say, my nationalism does not fall for America (‘murica🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅) as much as it does for Japan. I love Japan and I’m so excited to go back during the summer. It’s so much cleaner over there. I am torn between two career choices; one will keep me studying in America, and the other will take me to Japan 🇯🇵 wow this is long😂
