Top shelf video here. I followed it to a T and I was done in under 15 mins. No more dragging my wet/dry vac outside to suck the pipe out which did ok, but not like a water flush. Theres another video on here of a guy selling a similar setup for 49.99. Im not knocking small business, but if i can diy and save cash, im all in!

I put together something similar to this today, inspired by this video. Spent about $20 in parts + primer and glue. I was flushing the line by removing the line and duct taping a garden hose to the end of it every few months, but that got old and was very messy. This works a LOT better! Thanks for the inspiration.

You do an excellent step by step demonstration that even a 71 year old grandmother can follow. We have developed a chronic draining issue with one of our a/c drains that caused the unit to shunt down every couple of months in the summer. I’m convinced the design is flawed and we have been told to only use vinegar in the drain line because bleach will degrade the aluminum drain lines. If you can suggest another liquid we might use that would work longer than vinegar, please do. My husband is 75 and hot attics are not a good for him. Thank you.

I was skeptical at first but once you explained everything, it made perfect sense and looks like a great plan. I use a clean out tee over a p trap followed by a union. I shove a round brush down the clean out tee to break up solids, pour some water to flush the and then blow it out with a gallo gun and a CO2 cartridge. Your idea is great for a crawlspace, basement or single story, not sure how well it would work in a attic.

I'm a professional web marketer -- part of what I do for a living is shooting & producing video clips for business websites - THIS video is a superb example of how to do a "how to do" video correctly - WHY? SO many things were done right -- 1) shows & tells PARTS needed upfront (plus includes list in video description box) -- 2) includes safety warning - "turn unit off before___" -- 3) background music not distracting (simple instrumental - no complex changes, no vocals) -- 4) ideal voice to music audio mix (approx. 80% voice / 20% background) -- 5) voice loud and clear, well paced timing -- 6) voiceover process description includes additional helpful "tips & advice" (mark valve open/close, don't glue final connection outside, etc.) -- 7) video clearly framed & focused (not too wide/far away or too close --8) no fast side-2-side panning, abrupt in/out zoom, shaky up/down (assume tripod and/or GoPro type cam held super still was used) --9) slow boring parts of the process sped up (speed increased 2X or more in post production) -- 10) good total time length - not 90 seconds (too short) or 9 minutes (too long) -- 11) nice personal connection at end (face filmed, speaking directly to viewer) -- 11) proper promotion (please comment, subscribe/follow + links provided to Facebook, Google, share, etc.) -- Congrats on this video....VERY well done AND very helpful......I'm off now to fix MY drain problem YOUR way!

My air handler is in the garage (Florida) right next to the laundry sink. Every month (on the First, I did it today) I change the filter and flush the condensate drain with plain water. I connect a short piece of hose to the laundry faucet and put it into the drain trap for the condensate drain and flush it for a few minutes with the faucet fully open.
I do not use any chemicals in the drain line, just flush it frequently with plenty of clear water. I have never had a drain line clog. I also remove the unit covers and use compressed air to blow out the evaporator coil, fan wheel and condensate drain pans. (before changing the filter) I use a good quality pleated filter. I buy them in a case of 12 to save money. I pull out the filter and throw it away every month, put in a new one. They never look "dirty"...and that's a good thing.
Once a month, every month. Year 'round.
My unit is 8 years old and looks like a shiny new dime inside.
I have it serviced by a professional company twice a year, April and October (it is a heat pump so it operates year round) and they check the charges and electrical components.
FWIW I also flush my water heater once a month, run my emergency generator system once a month.

I was a victim of a clogged hvac drain. The water overflowed into one of the ducts in the attic. It progressively filled up, became very heavy and weighed down the strap enough it punctured a hole in it. The water seeped out onto the ceiling drywall and collected in a seam before breaking through. Water came in through the ceiling and onto the floor. I was lucky I was home when it happened. I was fortunate enough to know how to repair everything which would have been very costly if I didn’t. . Check your drain often.

That is so cool! So the pipe going out of the ac is supposed to drain the water, and I’m assuming the pan is not supposed to flood, even if the pipe from the drain pan to the outside is clogged? See, we have 2 ac units. The one in the basement has a pan that never gets flooded. So I’ve been cleaning the wrong pipe! And I love the idea of adding a shutoff valve to prevent water from backing up into the ac when you flush it! Thank you. You probably saved me $50.

Awesome video. One thing, don’t pour bleach in there. The newer 410 coolant ac units have extremely thin heat exchange fins. If any bleach were to back up it could cause corrosion and a very expensive coil replacement job. Add a cup of white vinegar once a month . It’s less corrosive and does the job.

That is a genius solution ... 1:48 ... Man, I never thought of that. I have exact problem that you are describing. Water leaking in attic, but I isolated it to a L-drop pipe that is about 10 feet away from the attic A/C. I stuck an old LAN cord in and tried to shimmy it around, but it didn't clear out the stoppage. I also poured some soap in it, hoping that it would help break the stoppage. But, I probably need to cut a section, just like you did, then it would be easy to clean. Thank you for the solution. I need to buy the parts tomorrow and do something similar. Yeah, my situation is different -- like you said, but your solution is useful, easy, and brilliant. Thanks for showing me how to do it easily. I do understand now.

This is a great video thanks! This is a very smart solution to a big problem. I like that you used the hose fitting connections because it will make maintenance easy.

It's the best one I have seen. My problem is the units are in the attic.

Thank you. I think you can still use it in the attic. Just put a shut off valve on the hose like I have in the video.
