In this video I finally get round to cleaning and then bagging some of my most valuable vintage Penguin paperbacks. It's been quite a while since I have bagged any of my old books but some of these, due to their value, need that extra protection.

A copy of the prototype Penguin #1 certainly deserves to be better housed than a mere comic book bag. Have you considered a Solander box? Any well-made box would be appropriate.
There is a company creating acrylic cases to fit vintage paperbacks. I'm hoping they're released this year.
I put my paperbacks in plastic sleeves made for paperbacks. It does obscure the spines somewhat, but not to a great extent.
That's what I don't like, spines are so important. It's tough this collecting game 🙂👍
Thank you . Is there any way those books can be restored..given the fact they are so rare . Penguin does not even have some. I hope you get the bags you are looking for. Till then my friend..keep collecting , preserving and sharing .🖖 ps i bag some those which a falling apart..😊
Not restored really, if it's totally falling to bits I might do a repair, but less is more.🙂👍

you can restore anything if you have the budget. if you look at the work you can get done on dust jackets. clipped, tears, writing on the jacket etc. all of that can be removed or reduced, but its expensive work. You might end up paying more than the book is worth restoring it, that is the consideration for penguins. Although there are some very valuable rare penguins, very few of them reach the price you can get for first edition hardbacks with jackets, for example 1920s/30s first edition Agatha Christie. That is just down to the relative size of the collectors, the more collectors, the more money the rare stuff gets.

Hi Jules, since watching your videos i have been collection old paperbacks. Yesterday i found a book called 'Vacha: Reqium for a Crown'. i can not find it anywhere online, do you know if it is collectible?
