I’m a tractor trailer driver for over 46 years but a train nut since childhood when the Lehigh Valley was still doing good. We’ve had air dryers on truck tractors since the early 80’s and it’s very far and in between when you get an airline freeze in the winter or a loss of braking power from an air tank being full of condensates as long as they are maintained properly

That's a Twin Tower Air Dryer for the Air Compressor. On those there is a Blue Plug that we have to check during walk around inspections. If it's Dark Blue it's in perfect condition and the Air is dry. If it's yellow, pinkish, or white it's got water in it and needs to be repaired or replaced. I have one of those old plugs in the glove box of my truck that came out of the Air Dryer of the CSXT 6044, which is a EMD GP40-2 that was derated from 3,000 Horsepower down to 2,200 HP and made into a EMD GP38-2S. It's a Remote Controlled engine I used to run on the Y190 and Y290 yard switchers at Hialeah Yard in Miami, Florida but now last I checked its in Kentucky now in storage I believe.

0:58 You are at the Norfolk Southern crossing at Middle Road in Dunkirk, New York on 27 April 2021 as Norfolk Southern train #310 approaches and passes Middle Road. After the engines pass Middle Road you turn east on Progress Drive and pace the train. You notice and highlight a piece of equipment in front of the rear truck on the engineers side of the third engine. A couple of people indicated what that item is in thier comments. You paced the train for a very short time along Werle Road and then stopped the video of train #310.
3:47 You are in the parking lot on the southeast corner of Park Avenue and East Third Street as CSX train #Q009 passes on the elevated tracks in the downtown Dunkirk, New York area. This train had two mid-train DPUs because it was a long train.
7:14 An eastbound CSX mixed freight rounds the curve from the elevated tracks toward the CSX Middle Road crossing. There are a lot of empty garbage hoppers cars on this train but there is no sign of the garbage hopper car with the Wide World of Trains graffiti on this train.
9:13 An eastbound CSX intermodal train with a mid-train DPU comes by your location at the Mile Post 41 curve.
11:29 You are at the CSX crossing at Central Avenue in Brocton, New York looking south as a CSX westbound mixed freight passes. After the train passes at 16:10 we hear some static on your radio scanner as the CSX defect detector at Mile Post 49.4 begins its announcement that there are no defects on the train that passed on track #1. There were 696 axles on this train and the train was traveling at a speed of 39 miles per hour.
Thank you again for documenting these trains and for sharing this video with us!

I do not know what that device is. Maybe a train operators can tell us. WWoT, did you know Hobo Shoestring did not move to Alaska. They turned him down on a request for an apartment. I'm not happy with that. WHY? Well, because I think he's getting too old to ride the rails, especially the way some of these operators are calling the police for being on RR property.....and.....he got part of his hand cut off in a very close call. The next time he might not be able to push away...huh??? He did get another apt. in TN. I think he'll keep riding....I don't like that, for his sake. ☹️ I realize he's in his 50's but the ole body begins to not respond so quickly. I know, I'm 83.
