sadly on my country this industrie didnt even exist or its super limited so i am on the big quest to create my own animation studio with only Mexican people to help my companions there is talent people here but they never shine in cuz there is no animation industrie on Mexico (we have only two cartoon productions like Villanous and Vikings and thats it)
One thing im afraid of is where i want to work at, im afraid getting all those qualifications would be for nothing if i have no place to work at. Im obviously gonna build my portfolio over time with free lance animation, (for animation expirience as a job). But the thought keeps coming back to me, that il be an extra puzzle piece for nothing
Thank you so much Toniko! It’s the time I started to open myself more to TV animation and I’m excited for it. I really like how you wrapped up with doing your own personal projects, count me in!
the problem i have is , i have noone i compare myself to , i can animate now , but is it fast enough for actual work ? or did i already succeed even some people who actually work in the industry ? .. how can i contact studios ? how much time will i have for each animation ? that stuff you cannot learn on youtube or through self study i guess
Ask other animators . Social media and TH-cam under videos should work fine. You may get a faster response if you ask 1 or 2 questions at a time versus 5. ☺️ google is also great. . Hope you find your answers soon my friend
As I'm quite new to animation, it's great to learn about different genres of work. Doubt I will ever work in Hollywood, but interesting info non the less. :-)
Agreed on all points! Thanks for making these videos, they're a great help and it's incredibly useful to all of us! Funny enough I started out straightaway working on a feature that never came out, so what you said about not having official storyboard work for portfolio purposes was a huge struggle for me. Thankfully I managed to make original boards (with my own stories) which helped land me the next job in TV production. Now I'm now a full time freelance storyboard artist, so it's an attempt to work in both TV and feature (though of course as all freelancers know, there are big gaps in super insanely busy periods and dry seasons)! Just wondering if you had any advice for freelance board artists?
@@silverblaize Yes there are! The only tricky thing is if you are being hired by a studio that's not based in your country. One good thing is that there are some US based studios that are more open to hiring freelance artists living in another country; the only caveat is that you'll likely have to fill out a W8BEN form for tax reasons. Other studios from european countries and Canada tend to have laws that limit hiring freelancers based outside their country so it's harder to get jobs from there if you live in another country. However, it's still worthwhile trying to apply and emailing them to ask specific questions if any recruiter approaches you on linkedin or any other social media platform! More explanation of what a W*BEN form is if you're not based in the US: businessservices.wisc.edu/documents/w-8ben-certificate-of-foreign-status-of-beneficial-owner-for-united-states-tax-withholding-and-reporting-individuals/
is it really necessary for international newbies (like me) to move to US or Canada and get its first job? i mean, i cant find anything in my place and that idea has been going around in my head almost everyday i got into college i live in Mexico btw
What type of animation did the tv productions and feature films you worked in have? Was it 2d hand drawn animation or was it 2d puppet animation? I love 2d handdrawn animations and hope that there's still enough market, studios and productions that does 2d hand drawn animations?(besides the eastern countries)
I love art and animation as it is my favorite hobby. But alas, i can't really fulfill a direct path of a dream job that centers on those topics. Simply, my country isn't really a great place to find legitimate or high profile institutes for that. And money here is tight especially now. It might just be a hopeless ambition but i wish i can do it more often atleast (Pls mind my sentences, I've been playing too much Fire Emblem)
Great video!👍🏾 VERY informative. Thanks. Can you explain the difference between the art styles tho? Cuz I see the diff between the two, but I can't put my finger on it. Like WHY does it look diff? Why film, more often than not, looks "better" than their tv show counterparts? And I don't mean money-wise, like how you taught in this vid, but I mean, what are the actual; Techniques, Colors, Pencil vs iPad, Sizes, etc... that are used that makes anime/cartoon movie's animations "better" or jus different? Thank you in adv!
I can't 2D animation, I see 3D and say I could be animating that character instead of drawing this image for the 100th time today. Don't get me wrong I love drawing but that's the point I want to keep loving to draw and not find it a chore or remind that it was a chore.
God, the music and the little character wave at the start gets me every time!! ♥
I agree! That little guy is SO cute!!
Next level guy
Man i love these topics you are choosing Toniko!

Go for it! I'm not Mexican, but I totally support that. We need animation worldwide!
tambien soy mexicana y quiero trabajar en animacion, i want to do the same!! wishing you the best, mexican animators will rise soon enough!!
Hey, As a Mexican myself, I very much approve that form of motivation. I too have a similar form of said motivation
Been watching your videos for the past 2 days, really love how grounded and hard working you are and how solid the advice is you give : )
Thank you, Toniko! Your videos are really helping me get through this pandemic right now.
Wow, this is so helpful and information-dense. Thank you! I hope to watch many more of your videos.
Come one everyone, let’s all say it together “thank you animation master for your guidance” 🙏

@Vean Studio yeah and guzzu is a absolute monster

Appreciate the sharing of experience
Was just wondering what the difference was between the two and I get this in my inbox. Great video!

Speaking of animations, i didn't get the chance to watch cartoons in my childhood so now that I'm old I'm binge watching the series that I missed.. 😂
These videos are the best man. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
I just got here from another animators channel and I was immediately sucked in by that adorable puppy waving his paintbrush

Are there actually any remote freelance jobs for storyboard artists in animation? Or do they have to work at the studio?

I appreciate the level of quality Avatar had now.
I just love your art and talent🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😍
This was crazy helpful TY
That was some very good info.
I am curious to know if you have some kind of list of all the shows and features you worked on.
The ones that are public are on my imdb page
Hello. Thanks for your story and opinion. Tell me, please, what are the series or movies you show after 10:21. It looks cool, I want to watch them))
Omgosh, first thank you so much for that video, helped me alot:) Second whats that animation at 10:21 from? It really got a Calvin and hobbes vibe:D
I do hand drawn animation by frame by frame on paper.
This may be silly, how can I find your personal projects to watch?
Awesome video!
i love your video keep up the good work
Really Useful Toniko!! I wish to know about how you design your characters for your film. What are the preparations you takes..
can you tell us about dream bandits
is it possoble to do both and personal projects
If I want to do both, should I get a degree in feature or television? Or do I have to get one in both?
Are they both come under cartoon umbrella?
Animators at Warner Bros. Animation can do retakes in the Animaniacs revival for Hulu.
Hi
What company do you work at? It seems cool!
Wait you actually work in Clarence before!?
What pipeline mean
👌👍👍👍💓💓
I just wish the WRITING for a lot of shows based on movies was as good as the animation. I won't name any names, just a general statement.
just to let ya know, you spelled budget wrong
Sub español please
My Studio makes 2d animation

Sounds to me like itd be better if you only animated in 3d and use 2d to draw other stuff
@@OtherwiseUknownMonkey That is what my channel is all about my 3D animation and my drawn art.
