I used to drink Allan’s music as a fledgling guitar player. I used to go to sleep with my Sony Walkman with a cassette of IOU on endless repeat so that I would be sleep trained into Allan’s playing. I did the same with McLaughlin. Great memories. I was lucky enough to cross his path a couple of time. A truly humble, fantastic Maestro.
Allan is 46 here probably at his absolute peak of expression and skill. amazing. The whole band especially Chad are an incredible force . thanks for sharing !!
OMG only 207 likes as of 2023??? Trust me This is Allan at his VERY PEAK!! Post Atavachron/Sand. I love how the band, playing these f#$%ing INCREDIBLE compositions, positively SHINES, through the mediocre quality of this recording!
Fantastic concert! And how curious! (And unusual on Allan): The first four notes of his solo here in "Protocosmos" are the same as in the REH Instructional Video. R.I.P., Maestro Holdsworth.
The absolute Maestro. Just takes off into the beyond. Utterly thrilling and spellbinding. The band are totally on it and enable Allan to reach for the outer limits.
@@foobarbazquux I did every chance I got; always a peak experience. His death hit me hard; the biggest thing in life that I looked forward to the most ever since I discovered him in the 70s, was the next opportunity to see him play; when he died, a big part of my life just vanished; still trying to make peace with it, but not really expecting to be able to. I agree with the assessment; the early 90s were probably the years when the "OMG!" factor was at a peak. Thank goodness music recording and video recording tech was good enough during his life to produce a bunch of these incredible gems to re-experience the glory of the GOAT!

Me too! I took home the copy of Atavachron Allan gave me, and it was the ONLY thing I listened to for 6 weeks!
"Holy Crumbs"! Sparks everywhere!
I saw this very quartet in 1992 at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London. Great memories!
Loved Skuli !

there's an extra joy and beauty in his playing on this gig, he seems comfortable.
