  • Composed by Bert Williams and George Walker in 1901, here is "She's Gettin' More Like The White Folks Every Day" recorded by Dan W. Quinn on a rare original 5-inch Edison Concert brown wax cylinder and played on my 1899 Edison Concert Phonograph. Thanks for your visit and I hope that you enjoy the video.

A wonderful duo, and I highly recommend Bert Williams' 4 CDs worth of material, available from Archeophone Records.

Fantastic! I think this is the first time I've seen a concert cylinder and concert machine in action, and it sounds beautiful. If I may, I hear, "...now she must have *a humming bird's heart*..." Thanks so much for posting this!

This song was recorded when Marshall Taylor was America's greatest athlete. Taylor raced against Frank Kramer and left Kramer in the dust after Kramer said that he was going to "trim the n----r".

Love that tinkling piano. Dan W Quinn and Will F Denny are my favorites from the brown wax era.

Thank you so much for posting this fantastic record... but why did you skip the announcement? I always love to hear those.

The reason for my starting the cylinder just after the announcement was because more than 100 years ago someone apparently (and surely accidentally) lowered the carriage mounted recording assembly cutter onto the surface of the spinning cylinder thus obliterating the announcement. This dug a shallow trench into the cylinder surface where the announcement had been and you can actually see the trench as the cylinder spins in some angles of the video. I did not want to injure my reproducer so I opted to start the cylinder just after the announcement.
