Hi Steve. First of all may I say what a fantastic video this is. I have only had my 7300 for about 3 weeks but I love it already. I never considered using the PBT and Notch Filter to enhance the signal in the absence of QRM. Can't wait to try this later. Keep up the good work and Thank You 73 Nick G0HFL
WOW Steve! Thanks for sharing this. I'm looking for a new rig after 16 yr absence from HF CW and on the hunt for a rig. I loved my old TS-850's but am cautious of the used ones due to component age. My other fear was the lack of crystal filters but seems technology has figured all this out. Thanks again and 73 de WA5ZVE
Hi, Why do you prefer using PBT + Notch (cutting low frequencies) instead of using only the PBT with IF center in the higher part of the passband AND split setting of PBT1 and PBT2 that cuts the low frequencies? To me, the result looks the same in the audio scope.
Hello Steve, Interesting video, thanks for sharing it with us. I wonder why you didn't reduce your IF bandwidth using your PBT centered on your pitch frequency first and selected a rounded CW filter curve to soften the signal? Using the notch function introduces a lot of roll-off (phase shifting) around its center frequency which in your case seems to add some ringing, is this just an impression? 73's, Patrick - ON4KNP
one reason i am leaning toward the FTDX3000... it offers a 300Hz CW filter while the ic7300 has a 500Hz. but after seeing how its possible to adjust bandpass and then shape the CW audio on the 7300 maybe the 300Hz filter isnt a deal breaker? it still seems like kind of a work around though? but i'am new and still trying to figure things out... this vid' helped immensely.
Great technique Steve. Is there any way to save/recall the PBT/Notch setup for CW mode or do you need to dial it in manually every time? Did you also do a video on how you set up your spectrum scope for that nice green trace? Thanks & 73!
On second thought, you could use CAT commands to set PBT and SHFT so a logging program macro etc could do it. CMD 14-07/08 reads&sets PBT, 14-0D reads&sets NOTCH; too bad it doesn't have macro key assignability like the K3
Great video Steve, I noticed you don't have the "fill" color in the audioscope on the left box. You just have the line with no fill. Can you show us how to do that ? 73s
Got it, I didn't know the same could be done to the audio scope. I just went in and pressed the "expd/set" key for a second while in the audio scope screen and it took me to the settings. In there I picked line instead of fill and adjusted the color. Pretty cool. Thanks again! I've learned more watching your videos than reading the manual, LoL. 73s
Great help, Steve. When I follow your steps adjusting the PBT and Notch, It seems to have very little affect on the CW transmit audio on the scope. I cannot see the rounded edges as you show. When I monitor on the air signals, it does show the rounded edges. Mine stay sharp. Is there another setting I'm missing? I'm using the new 1.14 firmware. Thanks for the help. 73
Another really useful and informative video Steve. I'm being sold on the 7300

adjusted mine as you have shown on my new 7300...what an improvement ! Thanks !
This is exactly what I was looking for. Now CW is much more fun. Thanks Steve. 73 de Frank DL9DAC.

Best video on cw and IC-7300. Thank you!!
Works very well and stays in CW memory settings. When I go to SSB the filter are normal and back to cw they are like I left them. Cool
good to know...thank you..!

Hi Steve, why did you use Wide not Narrow for CW. I am unsure if wide leaves less filter ring
7300's have virtually no filter ring

Just buy another 7300 for SSB :*) The green trace video is th-cam.com/video/wY3T91AHQko/w-d-xo.html

Good video! Can you post another one for LSB/USB monitoring?
Thanks! I'm considering purchasing this radio.
For SSB, push the power button for 1 sec.

PBT has no effect on transmit. Your scope shows what is transmitted when transmitting.
