For those of you who don't know why we need to wash rice (looking at you, MYSTA): The rice grains mainly have some sort of starch on the surface which needs to be cleaned. If you clean the starch off your rice gets a consistent texture that is evenly cooked and fluffy. If you DON'T clean the rice, the starch gets all gummy, mushy, it won't evenly cook the rice and it will make the grains stick to each other including the pot, rice paddle, etc. Which isn't a pleasant experience, plus the rice that gets stuck to the pot might tend to fry a bit and you'd end up with hard and dry rice at the bottom.
