    The underlying “sin” in all this is making keeping the sabbath a burden. It’s simple, few details are given bc there is much room for application.
    Nutshell - rest vs work. What is “work” for you? Riding a bike may be relaxing and thus rest for one person, while the same ride may be work for another who is not in good condition.
    There is also the concept of “weightier matter,” such as the example of pulling an ox out of a well (ditch). Life is more important than a single day’s rest. The rest is given for our benefit, therefore weekly. We are not made for that rest, so an emergency situation may even be permissible, even if it requires what would normally be considered “work.”

    Praise to Yehovah, Creator of the universe! Thank you to Mr. Nehemia Gordon for sharing his wisdom and discoveries. God Bless you Sir --from the Philippines! I've been a Catholic all my life until 7 years ago I met a brilliant life Coach who taught me about the real God, the Torah and Shabbath. It was the first I'm finally convinced and left my old religion. His teaching is very practical. If you think about it from the very beginning of time Yehovah Elohim blessed the Sabbath--meaning, no Jews or Christians or any other religions existed yet. I learned that the word "rest" is a mistranslation. In my Jewish Bible it says, "ceased". I mean, the Creator is not human. He still controls everthing without resting up to this moment. The earth is still hanging in space in perfect motion, doesn't it?! The oxygen we breathe is still in its perfect percentage, a small difference would either suffocate all or burn everything. He is perfect and eternal. Back to Sabbath, only Yehovah can see a person's heart. Where I am right now is walking--step by step--not running with Yehovah, gradually discovering more. Before, I'm unaware one should not cook on a Sabbath because the elements must rest as well. Then I wondered how about boiling water for bath--when it is cold. Then I spoke to God silently and promised Him I'll light 1 incense before I boil my bath water. And then, I came to a conclusion that maybe it's not only the elements God wants to stop from working but the person who will cook or bake. I think Sabbath is also a gift from Yehovah, since He knows that his creation, us humans, also need to cease from working and so He Blessed that one particular day--not 1 hour, not 2 hours, but the whole day.

    I'm so glad to see this topic! I was wondering this myself since so many of the directives about the Sabbath seem to be from the Talmud instead of the torah. It occurred to me about 8 years ago, that when the rich young ruler came to Jesus, ( Yeshua), he was told to keep the commandments. I noticed that I wasn't keeping the Sabbath. Since then, I have tried to keep it as a day of prayer and bible study, and I don't do any work except what I have to do ( like dishes). Thanks for addressing this.

      Alan Canyon.... Don't kindle a fire.......means......"DON'T FIGHT AND ARGUE WITH ONE ANOTHER!!!" Remember.......sometimes, these verses are "symbolic," and NOT literal. Of course, Yahuah wants you to stay "warm" on Shabbat..........especially if you live in the cold north. Yahuah is NOT an ogre......most people today have a furnace anyway that runs by itself. The verse is trying to "convey a principle" and that is to REST....AND BE AT PEACE WITH YAHUAH AND ONE ANOTHER!!! Shalom!!!

    I’m Seventh-Day Adventist, and I noticed members each have their own idea of what to do, or not to do, with a few guidelines, and we’re told that how we interpret the Sabbath is up to each one individually. I doubt that is the best idea, but at least we’re not handed a list. It’s best to study Sabbath laws, allowances, restrictions and how those might apply to us today.
    Last year my group studied Exodus and there were some Sabbath keeping things there, and I wanted to comment on the fire lighting rule in Exodus.
    The Israelites had just been assigned the task of building the portable sanctuary. There were a large amount of metal parts that needed to be made. God is telling these people do not work on the Sabbath, which includes making the parts for the sanctuary. And he says not to kindle a fire. This fire God is talking about concerns making the metal parts for the sanctuary, to not start any fires in their furnaces to work on the Sabbath. It has no meaning for heating their homes or providing light to see by. The context is fire for working, not fire for heat, light, cooking.
    Going by Jesus’s principle that’s it is good to do good on the Sabbath, underlines what I said above. It would not be good to keep your family from preparing simple hot foods, and especially to make them suffer from the cold, especially when ill.
    The Jews were taking this lighting a fire on the Sabbath out of context and to the extreme.

    • @KingArtexerxes
      @KingArtexerxes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sam B It would take too long to go through all of these but I’ll do the first one, and if you’d like, I can explain the others also.
      There is a principle at work here. And that is to formulate a belief on all that the Bible says on any given topic, as opposed to a few verses taken out of context. Unfortunately most Christians only do the latter, not taking the time and effort to derive at the correct meaning.
      Paul wrote in Colossians 2:14-17 that Jesus... “Wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are A SHADOW OF THINGS TO COME, but the substance is of Christ.”
      Notice what Paul wrote: “The handwriting of requirements [or ‘ordinances’]” was blotted out. These ordinances were “against us” and “contrary to us”, the very thought expressed by Moses when he said in Deuteronomy 31:26 that the “book of the law” was “against you.” The law of Moses contains blessings to those who keep the law and curses to those who don’t.
      Now Colossians 2:16-17. Most who use this as a proof text to avoid Sabbath observance never consider verse 17 which puts verse 16 in proper context.
      Verse 16: “So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,”
      What did the 7 mandatory Old Testament feasts consist of?
      Food
      Drink
      Festivals
      New moon observances
      Sabbaths
      So, in context, what was Paul referring to here? All Sabbaths? or only those Sabbaths that pertain to the feasts? Since the weekly sabbath of the 10 commandments are not part of the feast laws, He was not referring to that particular sabbath here.
      Verse 17: ...”which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.”
      Again, which Sabbaths was Paul referring to here? Those that were a “shadow of things to come.” The feasts were a shadow of Christ. They outlined different aspects of His mission. Just like the animal sacrifices were a shadow of what Christ later did by dying on the cross for our sins, the sacrifices are no longer required. They were a shadow of things to come. Same thing with the feasts, such as the Passover. Passover began and ended with special Sabbaths that were set aside only for these feasts.
      The Sabbath of the 10 commandments are not the law of Moses. It is the law of God and was established on this planet on the 7th day of creation. It was not a shadow of things to come.

      Sam B Concerning Romans 14:5-6:
      “One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.” Romans 14:5-6
      What this says:
      1. Some esteem one day above others.
      2. Some esteem every day the same.
      3. Whichever you choose, be convinced.
      4. Those who observe it, do so in honor of Christ.
      5. Those who do not observe it, likewise do so in honor of Christ.
      6. Those who eat, do so in honor of Christ while giving thanks to God.
      7. Those who do not eat, likewise give honor to Christ and thanks to God.
      What this does not say:
      1. No mention of Sabbath observance.
      2. No mention of clean vs unclean food.
      3. No mention of feast days.
      The one thing this most likely concerns is fasting days because it’s about days and eating. People fasted on certain days of the week back then. So some fasted on certain days while others fasted on different days, or didn’t fast at all. Paul is most likely saying not to judge those who cling to, or don’t cling to, certain religious traditions that have no bearing on our salvation.

      Sam B Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Jesus is a shadow of the sabbath. That makes absolutely no sense anyway. Read Hebrews 3 and 4 closely paying attention to what is being said. It describes exactly what rest is. It’s not rest from the law. That would mean lawbreaking is approved by God. Exactly the opposite of what the Bible teaches. Hebrews says we get rest from God when we 1) believe, 2) have faith, and 3) obey God. This means we keep the Sabbath day, not disregard it. Hebrews 4:9 says (in the Greek and in most English translations) that there remains a Sabbath Day for the people of God, and to be faithful to keep it. Most translations say rest, but that’s an incorrect translation.

    • @KingArtexerxes
      @KingArtexerxes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sam B I love it when people “think” they know something. You really need God’s Spirit to think this through. If you would honestly read these verses again, without the coloring of past teachings, you will see it’s NOT EVERY CREATURE. As is typical with Paul’s writings, he throws something out there, then he also will specify the reasons or exceptions in the next verse or so. He does this here also.
      “For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” 1 Timothy 4:4-5
      Notice the word “if”, there are 3 conditions:
      1) Received with thanksgiving.
      2) Sanctified by the Word of God.
      3. Sanctified by prayer.
      All 3 conditions must be met for the creature to be eaten for food.
      It’s #2 that most people overlook. Out of all creatures, it’s the one sanctified by the word of God that’s allowed as food. God never sanctified the unclean foods. Sanctified means set apart. Only those foods described as clean were set apart from the others as edible. The unclean foods typically fit into the scavenger category. These cause disease and parasites in the person who eats them. Full of toxins. God’s plan is always the best plan.

    • @KingArtexerxes
      @KingArtexerxes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We are saved by faith and grace alone. This is true. But commandment breakers will not be saved. The Bible also says that. Jesus says that.
      “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:17-19
      Jesus said that not even the slightest little mark from a single letter will be removed from the law.
      He also said that those who teach others to keep the whole law will find great honor in God’s kingdom. This means those who teach others exactly what the Bible says about the law and the Sabbath can expect. And also those who teach others against the law and the Sabbath can expect. Those who teach others to disobey God and profane His law and His sabbath, won’t find entrance into God’s kingdom. They will be the least. The least will burn in hell, not receive a reward. They teach others to sin.

    Nehemia- Question, 3 choices; no fire, don't feed, and no to labor of starting. and don't judge anyone who, I guess is doing one of these differently. I agree, my question is about the brother who decides he can start fires gather wood, do we say? go ahead, what ever you believe. I ask this because there seems to be a group who thinks that the kindle no fire commandment only pertains to fires that would be used for work specifically work that would have been done at that time for the building of the tabernacle. ie.. dying wool, melting metal, etc... I guess I have always believed that we are not to kindle a fire or even feed it unless you live in an area where it gets really cold and that then Yahovah might actually look on the transgression, as if an ox fell in a pit on the Sabbath, need outweighs obedience. I heard some one make "the work fire" argument and then someone else decide it was then ok to build a friday night bon fire. Do I have a wrong attitude about this?

    Always entertaining. Two things: in the verse from Exodus the word "all" stands out to me. Possibly this verse was meant to gather the family into one room on Shabbat. One room with one fire? Just a thought. Second: "Judge not..." in my mind has been limited to the judgement of others but could it also be expanded into all of creation? I've always felt that individuals tend to judge everything. From others actions to the beauty of a scene to the weather. Given this, "Judge not..." takes on a whole other and much greater meaning. Shalom.

    Whether or not lighting Sabbath candles is of that origin the fact is that the Ten Commandments say to sanctify the Sabbath. What better way to sanctify the Sabvath than to light candles much as the priests lit the menorah, by saying kiddush over wine as corresponds to libations of the sacrifices, to eat the two loaves corresponding to the shewbread? I have a lot of Qaraite leanings but will continue with the Rabbinic traditions on this.

    Esh, often interpreted as fire, has another definition, passion. The prohibition of Exodus 35:3 is a sexual prohibition because the mans seed makes you unclean.
    In Exodus 19 during the 2 days of purification before meeting YHYH, Moses told the people, "Do not come at your wives. "
    In Exodus 12:16 you may cook your meals on the sabbath.
    The prohibition is on work, which is defined as gathering sticks, the man gathering sticks was put to death while those who went out to look for food were not punished.

    • @smokemtngal

      Makes so much sense and so simple. Thank you.

    • @bigshmooz610
      @bigshmooz610 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aish does not mean passion.
      The prohibition in Exodus 35 verse 3 has nothing to do with sexual prohibition as intimate contact between a man and his wife is actually supposed to occur on the Sabbath as it is part of oneg Shabbos.
      There is no prohibition against becoming impure on the Sabbath.
      In Exodus 19 it was three days of abstention rather than two days. THERE the woman had to be pure because it was the giving of the Torah.
      Exodus 12 verse 16 is not the Sabbath. It is the Festival. The laws of the festival are different than the Sabbath which is precisely why the Torah has to say that cooking on the Festival is permitted. (since otherwise people might think that just as on the Sabbath it is forbidden so too the Festival) So along comes the Torah and tells us that no, cooking in fact is permitted on the Festival.
      The prohibition is indeed on work. Cooking is work.
      I would point out here that the term 'work' is misleading in that the regular term for work is avoduh whilst the term here is melacha. Melacha is a special category of work not like normal work. The work the Torah is talking about which is forbidden on the Sabbath has to do with things which were done in the Tabernacle and its preparatory work. This is why the Torah juxtaposes the Sabbath with the Tabernacle. Thus shearing is considered one of the categories of work as well as building, as well as dying, as well as writing, etc... All in all there are 39 categories and their subsets.
      Here is a list I copied from the Chabad website of the 39 categories.
      'There are thirty-nine general categories of labor that are forbidden on Shabbat. Each of these categories include a range of derivative laws and activities, some of which are described in "The Shabbat Laws." The melachot are generally divided into six groups, classified according to the Mishkan's activities with which they are associated.

Although I do cook fresh on Sabbath as normal as I have children and they have to eat, and do use the kettle to have a cup of tea, and only shop if I really have to , eg.to buy bread or milk for my children, mind that the Hasidic Jews won't do any of those under Jewish legalism. Happy Sabbath if you've begun to observe it and God bless you.

    Deuteronomy chapter 5 tells us that on the 2nd set of tablets given to Moses (after he broke the 1st set), God wrote on the 4th commandment that the 7th day sabbath is a memorial of the day he brought the Israelite out of Egypt. That means God is telling us that the day he brought Israel out of Egypt, which was the 15th day of the 1st month during the Exodus, was a 7th day sabbath! Its literally written in the 4th commandment forever as a time stamp to a specific 7th day sabbath memorial. if the 15th of that month was a 7th day sabbath according to the creator, then the 22nd of that month and the 29th of that 1st month must have also been sabbaths.
    Remember, the book of Enoch tells us that every single month either has 29 or 30 days in it.
    Exodus chapter 16 tells us that Moses and the Israelite spoke with God on the 15th day on the 2nd month of the Exodus. The Israelite's complained that they wanted to eat meat. So God told Moses to tell the people, that at evening, he would send quail for meat, and the following day (which is the 16th day of the 2nd month) God would send manna. God said the manna would fall for 6 straight days, but on the 7th day it would not fall because this was to mark his sabbath. God said this would be a test to see if the Israelite's would obey his sabbath. Friends, if the 16th day of that month was the 1st day of the week, the first day the manna fell, then we can conclude that the day prior, the 15th, was a 7th day sabbath. Since the 15th was a sabbath, we can conclude that the 8th day was also a sabbath. Therefore the 22nd and 29th days of this 2nd month had to be 7th day sabbaths as well.
    The Book of Jubilees chapter 1 tells us that on the 16th day of the 3rd month during the Exodus, God spoke to Moses and the Israelite's on mount Sinai. Jubilees tells us this day was THE FEAST OF WEEKS. Which means the feast of weeks took place on the 16th day of the 3rd lunar month during the Exodus (side note: who hear follows this instruction :).
    Leviticus 23 tells us that the feast of weeks must take place on the day AFTER a 7th day sabbath. This means the 16th day of the 3rd month was the 1st day of the week. making the 15th day of the 3rd month during the Exodus a 7th day sabbath! Which means the 8th day of the 3rd month had to be a sabbath as well.
    Friends, this now makes 3 straight months where the sabbath takes place on the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th days of the 3 months recorded in scripture referring to the Exodus. And remember, God said this was all a big test to see if the Israelite's would obey this sabbath count.
    Now for some unbiased simple math. If the last sabbath during the 1st month of the Exodus occurred on the 29th day (remember theres either 29 or 30 days in a Hebrew month per Enoch), and the next sabbath did not occur until the 8th day on the 2nd month, then how many days separated those two sabbaths? The answer depends on ho many days were in that 1st month. if there were 29 days, then 8 days separated the two sabbaths. if there was 30 days during the 1st month, then simple math tells us there were then 9 days that separated the two sabbaths!
    The exact same scenario plays out in the following month, once again the sabbath ending on the 29th day of the 2nd month was NOT 7 days apart from the sabbath that fell on the 8th day of the 3rd month!
    So the scriptural fact is that you can deny a luni-solar sabbath all you want, but the proof of scripture says that you are wrong. Scripture does not lie and our amazing father has given us a way to prove his true sabbath through the Torah, just as the Israelite's were taught to obey its count.
    Side note: Leviticus 23 tells us the Feast of Weeks is a moedim. Psalm 104:19 tells us that the moedim are appointed by the MOON. So what does the feast of Weeks command tell us to do? it tells us to count 7 complete weeks! Weeks according to what? According to the moon! Here scripture is testifying that the only possible way to calculate his week i according to the moon!
    Test everything my friends, the word of God reveals much!!!!
    Funfact: The books of 2nd Baruch an 4 Ezra undeniably show proof of a luni-solar sabbath just like the books I referenced from the Torah do. If anyone is interested in that study just message me and ill provide the verses for your testing.

So if it was forbidden to have a fire on shabbat, and you lived in a place, like jerusalem where temperatures dropped to zero, snow etc etc. lighting a fire for heat turns into Pikuah Nefesh. *Are you a Sabbath Keeper or Sabbath Breaker?*
    The Torah, and the Torah only, defines what it means to keep or break the Sabbath. Here's what it teaches.
    *Sabbath must be observed from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday* - “from evening to evening shall you keep your Sabbath” (Leviticus 23:32)
    *No work can be done on the Sabbath. It is wholly a day of rest* - “Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD.” (Exodus 31:15)
    *If you turn your furnace on during the winter on the Sabbath, you're a Sabbath breaker* - “You shall kindle no fire in all your dwelling places on the Sabbath day.” (Exodus 35:3)
    *If you bake or boil food on the Sabbath, you're a Sabbath breaker* - “On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers each. And when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses, he said to them, “This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay aside to be kept till the morning.” (Exodus 16:22-23)
    *If you travel far from your home, you're a Sabbath breaker* - “Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.” (Exodus 16:29)
    *You don't keep the Sabbath unless you enforce the Sabbath with the death penalty* - “Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death.” (Exodus 31:15) - “While the people of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation. They put him in custody, because it had not been made clear what should be done to him. And the LORD said to Moses, “The man shall be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” (Numbers 15:32-35)
    *You don't keep the Sabbath unless your priest sacrifices two lambs every Sabbath* - “On the Sabbath day, two male lambs a year old without blemish, and two tenths of an ephah of fine flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, and its drink offering: this is the burnt offering of every Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.” (Numbers 28:9-10)
    *Based on how the Torah defines what it means to keep the Sabbath, who can say that they're a Sabbath Keeper?*
    As to Janine's question and, I'm sure everyone else's, must we as born again Christians keep the Sabbath? Short answer: *No*.
    Here's God's Word on it:
    *The purpose for the Sabbath*
    *Hebrews 4:1-6 . . . 8-11*
    "Let us fear therefore, lest any of us, forsaking the promise of entering into his(*God's) rest, should seem to come behind.(*come short) For unto us was it declared as well as unto them. But it profited not them that they heard the word because they which heard it coupled it *not with faith.* But *we which have believed do enter into his rest* as contrarywise he said to the other: I have sworn in my wrath they shall not enter into my rest. And that spake he verily(*truly) long after that the works were made and the foundation of the world laid. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise: *And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.* And in this place again: *They shall not come into my rest.* Seeing therefore it followeth that some must enter therinto and they to who it was first preached entered not therein for unbelief's sake. . . . For if ¹Joshua had given them rest then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. *There remaineth therefore yet a rest to the people of God.* For he that is entered into his rest doth cease from his *own works* as God did from his. Let us study therefore to enter into that rest lest any man fall after the same ensample(*example) into unbelief."
    *Footnote*
    ¹Paul is speaking about ••Joshua the son of Nun; and because Canaan is a figure of our true rest, so was Joshua a figure of Jesus Christ.
    ••Exodus 33 plus a few more books in the OT
    *Colossians 2:16-23*
    "Let no man therefore trouble your consciences about meat and drink or for a piece *of an holy day* as the holy day of the new moon or of *the Sabbath days* which are nothing but shadows of things to come: *but the body is in Christ.* ••Let no man make you shoot at a wrong (mark)(*target) which after his own imagination walketh in the humbleness and holiness of angel's things which he never saw: causeless(*unnecessarily) puffed up(*proud) with his fleshly mind and holdeth not the head, whereof all the body by joints and couples(*sinews) receiveth nourishment and is knit together and increaseth with thee, increasing that cometh of God. Wherefore *if ye be dead with Christ from ordinances(*rules) of the world* why as though ye yet lived in the world are ye led with traditions of them that say: Touch not, taste not handle not? which all perish with the using of them and are after the commandments and doctrines of men(*not God) which things have the similitude of wisdom in chosen holiness and humbleness, and in that they spare not the body and do the flesh no worship(*honour) unto his need."(*satisfying the flesh)
    *Emphases mine
    ••In other words be careful that you do not become deceived by a person/s who teaches you wrong doctrine or mislead you to destruction.

      Sandra Alvarez We are under Grace. The problem today with many Christians is that they are pretty much New Testament only but they don’t realize that without the Old Testament there would be No New. There are some laws that no longer apply to Us today or Even apply to us at all. If you have read the Torah it tells you that there are laws that the priests must follow which are temple laws, and then there are the laws of sacrifice which no longer applies because Yeshua came and became our sacrifice. The only laws and commandments that STILL pertain today are the Moral laws which you will find in the book of Deuteronomy and the law of Moses. But when Yeshua came there was a New Covenant and part of that New Covenant applies 2 more commandments that is greater than all the commandments and that is to ..
      Matthew 22:33-39 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
      36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
      John 13:34-35
      A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
      Yeshua came to fulfill the law not to abolish it. So when we LOVE one another we are following the law of Moses which are the 10 commandments. And then we are loving Yeshua with all our heart, soul and mind because we are obeying his commandments. And because Yeshua came to fulfill the law and by fulfilling the law Yeshua made the ultimate sacrifice of LOVE for us. And that is grace!

And, yes, I emphasized cooking because I have no problem with doing so on the Sabbath. I believe that cooking on the Shabbat is NOT prohibited by the Torah, and I openly invite anyone to demonstrate otherwise. And, mind you, if you do respond, please be sure to bring a second witnesses -- outside of the grossly misinterpreted Exodus 16:23.

    Exodus 20:8-11 REMEMBER the Sabbath day,
    to KEEP it HOLY.
    Six days shall thou labour, and do all thy work:
    BUT the SEVENTH Day is the Sabbath of YeHoVaH thy God:
    in it thou shalt NOT DO any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
    For in six days YeHoVaH made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and RESTED the Seventh Day: wherefore YeHoVaH BLESSED the Sabbath day, and HALLOWED it.
    Exodus 35:3
    Ye shall kindle NO fire throughout your habitations upon the Sabbath Day.
    Ezekiel 20:20
    And hallow MY Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am YeHoVaH your God.
    Ezekiel 44:24 And in controversy they shall stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to MY judgments: and they shall keep MY laws and MY statutes in all mine assemblies; and they shall hallow MY Sabbaths.

    Michael, you have some good studies online regarding Torah. I don’t always agree with you. But then, I have not met any person I agree 100% with. However, I have a big disagreement with your closing comment here. I know sensationalism sells. But, it is not always becoming of a person who follows Torah and Yehoshua. To me, you are doing what many in the Hebrew Roots groups often accuse Christians and Jews of doing; i.e., taking things out of context.
    Matthew 23:3-7 says:
    Matthew 23:3-7 (NASB20) 3 Therefore, whatever they tell you, do and comply with it all, but do not do as they do; for they say things and do not do them. 4 “And they tie up heavy burdens and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as their finger. 5 “And they do all their deeds to be noticed by other people; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. 6 “And they love the place of honor at banquets, and the seats of honor in the synagogues, 7 and personal greetings in the marketplaces, and being called Rabbi by the people.
    Yehoshua explained what he meant by telling his followers not to be like the Pharisees (most likely those of Beit Shammai). You, like so many others, seem to read this passage as:
    Matthew 23:3-7 (NASB20) 3 Therefore, whatever they tell you, do and comply with it all, but do not do as they do.

    • @Meira750
      @Meira750 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is literal. The Israelites were in Egypt and Southern Israel, in the Spring. The desert can be chilly at night but it's not the "cold north." It also follows the command to not do any laborious work which kindling a fire certainly is. I think tho that there may be a literal and symbolic meaning which is as you say.

  • @lawrencekatz9560
    @lawrencekatz9560 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi there from Israel. I have a challenge to what has been said here...on one hand your saying you have to get to the truth..the string of techelet as you called it in the video. Yet, you say don't judge when someone wants to follow the law differently than you understand it. I have 3 challenges to that.
    1. If you believe in truth, than the torah when it says you shall not light a fire has one true meaning, so if you come to one conclusion a and ploni comes to another, than the truth needs to be discerened and stood up for. So where do you then put the line for truth that is factual and that you want to defend versus truth that you just let everyone think what there logic leads them to.
    2. You are suggesting that the written torah allows one to just get to their own conclusions without any general defintion for prohibitions. That doesn't make sense since there are laws of punishment in the written torah. If so, then you can never punish bcz you are always able to define things differently than others. Plus it says to rebuke in the torah, well if each person has his own way of defining the law than you can't rebuke. In deuteronomy 16:18 it says to set up a court system with a police force behind that..well again, you have to have defined opinions in order to be able to say what's allowed and what's not. I think you are giving a much more christian esc understanding of torah that you can just do as you see fit ir as your spirit tells you. it's much more sophisticated than that, and modern society is based on law and order and not just what their spirit tells them is the correct interpretation..There's no where in torah that it says that one may interpret according to their own logic in relation to interpretting laws. in fact yitro tells moshe to set up a law system in which case truth needs to be determined where people don't just do what they think should be the interpretation.
    3. If you go with your understanding that each person can understand shabbat differently based off the versus in tanakh, then you can't define what a karaite does or doesn't do, because each person can come up with his own logical interpretation. So then karaism loses its defining factors and you lose the capability of passing that truth over because you lose the ability to say that x is wrong and not karaism regarding that particular commandment, or that x is correct and truly reflects karaism. In fact, according to what you are saying, there is no reason to say that it is not legitimate to come to the conclusion that the verse is missing some information and assume that there must have been an oral tradition that would have explained things further...so 🤷🏼‍♂️

    The torah says that we are required to follow the teaching of our Sages. So yes we were commanded to follow the sages, therefore are required to light shabbat candles. How does Nehemia interpret this verse?

  • @thetruthisoutthere1116
    @thetruthisoutthere1116 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    shabbat is about 'to rest in God' or have communion with him. so dont do things that distract you from that. like collecting wood in a desert environment which would probably take many hours.
    its line when jesus was on the boat and there was a storm. he rested in God so muchvthat he didnt worry at all. he knew they where save and God intended to teach the disciples a lesson.
    to rest in God means to stay calm in every situation because you absolutely trust in God that he carries you through the storm.

    • @thetruthisoutthere1116
      @thetruthisoutthere1116 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      furthermore, if in the german translatied book of ruth (i dont know about hebrew and others), ruth asks naomi to 'make/create' her rest and find a husband for her, this is clearly a refference to the book of revelation where when the bride has let herself be prepared by what we name the holy spirit, the marriage will take place. or in other words: when you reach a point in sanctification where you enter in the new jerusalem 'state of mind' then you rest in God so much that there is only joy left and therefore all tears and sorrows are washed away.

    • @thetruthisoutthere1116
      @thetruthisoutthere1116 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      this entering in the new jerusalem (state of mind) is not something in the future, as some denominations preach but its an here and now and a today
      like paul preaches too.
      its an entering in the kingdom of God or lets say the kingdom of God has grown close to its full potential in that state of mind / in your heart.
      its when you are sealed on the forehead and can't drift away anymore.
      not like the waves in the ocean but constant. the joy is constant and everlasting.
      you have then found everlasting live and you will be a river of living water as the joy and the other fruits of the spirit will spread to others aswell.

    But the Torah imposes a penalty of DEATH for failure to observe Shabbat correctly, i.e performing "melocho"/
    So if interpretation of Shabbat observance (שמירת שבת) is an entirely personal matter, how it is determined who is worthy of the death penalty for its violation?
    The issue of the morality of putting someone to death over lack of Shabbat observance is another topic altogether, which I hope will be discussed.

    What did MessiYAH mean when he said, is there not 12 hours in a day? Somebody said the other day, the day of rest is Friday sundown to Saturday sunrise which is 12 hours an is a day of rest. Im not being funny or sarcastic, I am seriously asking this. Maybe we put more on ourselves than it was ever intended. Boy howdy just coming out of pagan worship day of years of total lies! I was NOT to happy an very discouraged at first! Now to me is rest on my spirit & soul from liars! I cant help at this point feel a relief that I am not doing the wrong but not sure the right either! Coming out of all the lies, I am RESTING a bit, & yet it is a day of rest. Before pagan calendar of days hours an time, once again I am not being funny, for one I do not have the gift of mathematics an I so rely on my elders for much, an then I allow the spirit of truth to bring me to my Final Answer. So my question is, if even possible, could it have been 12 hour days back in the time of MessiYAH even? I mean the whole 3days, 3rd day dont add up either regarding his death, but what about from Friday removed by sundown to Sat rest 12 to Sun up, Risen Haha I came up with that myself ridiculous huh?😂 well it is way better than the notion of 24 hour days an knowing he cant be still there on passover! Anyways can you explain this to me Elder? An Thank you! Shalom

      I follow most Karaite teaching, this is a transition from Orthodoxy but being a vegan or a pescavore is not an option for us so we still buy Rabbinic kosher. However, I know some enlightened Orthodox rabbis who understand Electricity is not fire so we use it. Sephardi Jews, which I am believe it is ok to use an electric oven with a timer to heat food on Shabbat. I actually don't have a timer I can set 12 hours ahead of time so I put the cold cooked food into the oven and turn it on so they heat together. I use my ac/heat which is of course electric. We keep a pot of boiled water warm on a hotplate overnight so we have coffee because we consider boiling to be "cooking." Once the water has boiled, it's "cooked." so it can be kept warm. I use a drip pot so the coffee doesn't cook.

      Well this is really simple. When Adam (and Eve) sinned in the garden, Yehovah cursed Adam to toil the ground everyday. It is Yehovah's grace that gave the Sabbath to men so they can have some rest.So, they do not have to work seven days a week everyday. Not the other way around "Man for the Sabbath" where man can make up rules and regulations on how man have to obey the sabbath. That is what Yeshua is talking about.

      And if you're referring to lighting a fire.... in the orthodox way, you light the candles before Shabbat starts, before sunset. But I don't believe God wants us to be cold or not have light. I think there is larger cultural context we have missed.

    Just to point out, one is not condemned simply if they do not forgive their neighbor.
    There are 613 commandments in the Torah and the core of Christian theology regarding salvation is that if you break A SINGLE COMMANDMENT, you break ALL of the commandments (James 2:10). Therefore it is correct to say the Cross of Jesus Christ nullifies the idea of condemnation for ALL true believers (Romans 8:1). HOWEVER, the Lord Jesus says that if you love Him (ie receiving His grace and believing unto Him for salvation) you will keep His commandments (Love God and love your neighbor [Mark 12:28-31]). The KEY DIFFERENCE IS THAT A HEART OF FORGIVENESS BECOMES THE NATURAL LIFESTYLE (NOT A CONTINUAL EFFORT) FOR THE TRUE BELIEVER. (1 John 4:8)

    As a believer and member of the body of Christ and under the New Covenant, I am not under the Old Covenant and its Sabbath. According to Romans7 COrinthians 3 and Hebrews the old covenant has been abolished and ended including the Sabbath. There is no command in the New Testament for the Christian to keep the Sabbath. According to Hebrews 4 Christ has become our Sabbath rest peace and assurance, our sabbatical, our continual rest and peace. The ecclessia can meet and worship and study on any day of the week today. No day is superior to another. There us no weekly Sabbath day today. Christ fulfilled all the types and shadows for us and He became the Sabbath and the feast days for us, fulfilling all for us. Stop trying to place the yoke and burden of the OT law on believers today.

      Alice where did Yeshuah say this? God commanded that we are to keep Shabbat and it is a statute FOREVER. Yeshuah taught not to follow the man made Rabbinical law, not Torah, in fact he said that not one jot or tittle of the Law of Yehovah has been done away with.

    • @sigalsmadar4547
      @sigalsmadar4547 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why would you think a God-given rest is not necessary?? I certainly need a break in the week. From Creation week all the way through the 1000 year Millennial Kingdom we will be observing the Sabbath. God's own people were punished for NOT following Torah (His Instructions of how to worship Him and treat each other AFTER becoming part of His Family, not what to do to get into the Family). Should we now be let off scott free for rejecting it? Yeshua said not the smallest letter or the smallest diacritical mark would pass away. When He said He came to FULFILL Torah and not abolish it, He was using a Hebrew idiom that means "fulfilling" Torah is to give the correct interpretation, and "abolishing" Torah is to misinterpret it. He came to give us the Perfect Example of what following the Father's Instructions are. What Yeshua fought against was the manmade traditions that had grown up around Torah. The religious leaders created "fence laws" so that the people would not be in danger of breaking the Actual Torah commandment, but all that turned into control and slavery... the heavy burden Yeshua referred to.
      Isaiah 56 and Isaiah 66, a couple examples of how Shabbat will be observed in the Millennial Kingdom.
