Hearns literally says. “I hit him with everything, and couldn’t believe he kept coming forward” That’s Marvin Hagler. Oh, and Hagler was definitely stunned by those punches. You're wrong he did underestimate an opponent in Sugar Ray Leonard.. And that is why Leonard beat him. Hagler was telling everybody that the fight wouldn't go the distance and he would knock ray Leonard out it didn't happen this matter of fact Leonard hurt haggler a couple of times. And yes Leonard did when. After being out of boxing for 5 years you would think hagler would've put up a better fight but I guarantee you it was up for grabs even with Leonard being out of boxing for 5 years. Has Leonard fought him in his prime he would have won decisively in 15 rounds

I was only a kid in my early teens ,but I could see he was special. Boxing was great around this time . The four kings they called them later. No messing around. They just booked the ring and fought each other . It was magic, what a time for boxing. Hagler ,HEARNS, Leonard and Duran . That’s when boxing was boxing. Pretty sad what’s happened since.

BTW, all props to Hearns, it takes two to tango as they say, and Hearns did everything he could to try to win... but he was badly hurt a minute-and-a-half in... and on this night, against this guy, for whom destiny was calling.... it wasn't happening... not many middleweights in history were doing much with Marv on that night... he fought like a man possessed. It’s Hard to Believe The Great Marvellous Marvin Hagler is no longer with us , He was truly GREAT, A one of a kind ,Great Heart, Great Attitude and Great Engine/Stamina, 7 Years Undisputed Champion some say the Middle weight division at the time was not that strong but that’s Because anyone who could have gone on to be a champion in that era was Beat by Hagler before he himself even became Champion he cleaned the division out .I was 7 years old when he Beat my fellow countryman The Late ALAN MINTER (God bless him) and there was no Stopping The Marvellous one after that, He was just like this Terminator that went on and on and never seemed to tire, although maybe the Mugabi fight took some getting over it was gruelling just to watch, Mugabi threw everything at Hagler that night and still Hagler powered on to KO an exhausted Mugabi.. I still don’t think he Lost to Sugar Ray Leonard he never took a backwards step the whole fight really, and I don’t think Sugar Really bothered Hagler apart from the odd flurry and footwork.. But I will never take nothing away from the GREAT Sugar Ray Leonard he fought the right Fight and Hagler should have started southpaw, the Fight deserved a draw at worst for Hagler but that’s just my opinion.. Despite the very few Morons in the Crowed that night in London 1980 Marvin Hagler should have held His Belt up High and been Applauded , he was Loved and Respected by Millions of fight fans in Britain and was easy one of my top 5 fighters of all time.. Rest in Peace Marvellous Marvin Hagler, a true Warrior but also a great Sportsman and true Inspiration to anyone who wants to Achieve Something in Life and has the Odds Against them He never gave up and He Should be Held as a Truly Great Example To All of Us Young and Old .. Well Said. Hagler beat Leonard. The judges never liked Hagler. The people in charge of boxing didn't seem to like him much either. Which was absolutely disgraceful. It took years for him to be inducted into the boxing hall of fame. So disrespectful and disgraceful. From all accounts that I have read..... Leonard did not want a 15 round fight and wanted a larger ring. Hagler agreed to this. If it had been 15 rounds Leonard would have been knocked out. He was struggling in the 12th round. Leonard waited more than 2-years after the hearns fight to fight Hagler, when Hagler was passed his best.
Hagler tried for a rematch for two years after the fight. Leonard did not want to know. That tells you all you need to know. I was not a fan of leonards showboating the goading of opponents in the ring. Pitiful.
