  • CrossCountry Super Voyager 221138 departs Motherwell towards its final stop, Glasgow Central, after the long haul up from Plymouth on a wet Saturday, 2nd November 2024.
Since Covid, Glasgow Central now receives only 2 CrossCountry services a day, and one of them starts at Edinburgh. The pandemic was a great opportunity for XC to cut their 2-hourly Glasgow services, something they had wanted to do for years in order to bolster their fleet resilience and capacity in the core Newcastle to Birmingham route.
With news that LNER now wish to drop their single London King's Cross to Glasgow service along with its southbound equivalent, Motherwell, and indeed the rest of southern Lanarkshire will be reliant on the sporadic and badly timed ScotRail service.
