UPDATED VIDEO WITH MORE DETAIL @ www.youtube.co...
NOTE: DO NOT TOW EVEN A MANUAL TRANS RWD WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE DRIVESHAFT. After making this video, I did some more research and many manual transmissions need input shaft to be spinning for proper lubrication. I was under the assumption that since a manual transmission generally does not have an oil pump mounted on the input shaft, that it would be okay to be towed in neutral with the rear wheels on the ground. NOT THE CASE and certainly not worth taking a risk.
Sorry about the poor audio quality in this video. It does get a little bit better as the video goes on. The above link is a longer version but certainly more comprehensive and clear.
This is a quick run down on how to use a Master Tow 80THD car dolly. For those of you wondering where my fenders are, well, the plastic dried out over the years and they ripped off one day! I have since replaced this dolly with a new one. CORRECTION: When I said leave the parking brake off, You actually want to leave it ON until you have the vehicle strapped down. In case it were to roll off the dolly. `

Thanks for the video bro. I just bought a used dolly same as yours and have never used one. You just gave me confidence in using one. Pretty simple as long as you follow safety. Take care. :)
no problem and thank you for the comment! Good luck with your dolly
Couple bloopers in this video in regards to the tire strap basket size. lol. To correct myself: I was trying so say that the wheel straps i have are too small for 31" tires.

Can you back a rear wheel drive truck on it backwards ?
Hi I have Grand Markis 2007 how supposed to tow ? Back or just normal front
Que lastima que no pueda entender por no saber ingles, esta limitado a cierto publico, una pena porque sus videos son muy buenos.
Saludos.
great video good job
Just picked my master tow dolly up today, good timing. I didn’t hear you say or see you lock the strap ratchet back ! Did you do that?
are you talking about the Locking position of the ratcheting mechanism? Yeah I'm not sure if I specified that. However this is an older video. I actually did an updated version with a lot more detail. Link is in description
Thanks for posting
Can you back a rear wheel truck on it backwards ? And whats the biggest whell/tire that can fit on these? (ex. 35,36,37?)
you can for short distances. But it's not safe at high speed especially if there is any play in the front end of the truck
And the max tire size is going to depend on what straps you're using
Thank you bro
And that I am wanting to make a winch of this but I have no project here in Brazil in the city where I live nobody knows how to do so I need to see a more detailed video from the bottom as it is that slope of the ramp and what kind of material and made the chassis ?
Paulo Vitor i can make you another video showing some details of the dolly at some point soon.
friend would be possible you make a film from under this gliding to me make one in Brazil?
could I tow a rwd car by backing it in ?
Good question vince, wondering the same, never seen it, thats for sure.
Only for short distance at low speed. Backing a rear wheel drive, automatic transmission onto a dolly means your weight distribution is backwards. Your towed car will fish tail once you get past 45 mph. If I had to I will but slow and short distance.
How much are dolly tows
If I remember right I paid $500 for mine used. Not sure what they run for new
Everything toyota makes is UGLY AND STUPID

After 5 years of towing I learned some new things. Leave the straps on while loading. Duh, i used to fight them, ha, thanks, great video😊
😊😊
Terrible sound control here. Too much wind noise. Appreciate the effort though.

HERE IS A LINK TO AN UPDATED VERSION I MADE FOR A THE MASTERTOW DOLLY: th-cam.com/video/ZywmnAeEc4E/w-d-xo.html
В России запрещено её буксировать без автомобиля, нужно разобрать и везти внутри машины !😂😂😂😂,и второе ,можно буксировать автомобиль который легче
And if the car being towed is not working. How do you put it on the dolly? Need to be very Strong!!!!!!!!!!!
Eugenio Viana sorry, I failed to mention how to use the hand crank winch. if you look at the video you can see it's on the front of the tow dolly and it works wonders for Pulling cars or trucks up onto the deck. Just make sure you put it in neutral 1st the rest is cake
Great video and very informative. I wanna be clear if it’s an automatic trans AWD or RWD the driveshaft will need to be disconnected all time if the vehicle is being pulled on Dolly?
Yes it should be disconnected in those cases. There are some exceptions to this rule though. Like for instance if you had a full floating rear axle you could just remove one of the axles.
NoNonsenseKnowHow what if it was a AWD manual just put it I. Neutral will be fine?
@@yvenskylebrun in general, yes however it's still recommended to remove the rear driveshaft. I've heard it some manual transmissions are not lubricated properly if the input shaft is not spinning. So for local toes I'm sure it's fine, but going down the freeway long-distance better off disconnecting the rear driveshaft
NoNonsenseKnowHow thank you
best instructions I seen so far. thanks for the video
Thank you for the support and glad it helped
I have 17 in. Wide tires 4 weel drive is this going to be a problem?
Why didn't he show where to hook up chains on the trailler
The deck on mine is very hard to drop down or to raise up. Any idea why? I noticed when you pulled the pin the deck dropped down. Mine you could almost not get it to drop if you jumped on it.
Sounds like the Pivot Point needs some lubricant. Otherwise I'm not sure
to much wind noise to understand

You can tow a vehicle backwards. However you must lock the steering so it doesn't crab-walk and as the weight is now shifted towards the rear it WILL fishtail if towed to fast. Interstate speeds would get you and someone else killed. Backward towing is only for low speed, slow roads AND emergency only. You can tow a standard transmission vehicle in neutral 😐. Only automatic transmissions need a moving input shaft due to the pump. Anyone who says different has never rebuilt either one. At the angle the truck (for example) sits when towed the output shaft is so low the thing is drowning in fluid constantly. I suppose if you towed one down a steep hill for 30 miles you might have an issue...because you would be getting close to the liquid hot magma. 😆 🤣
You should contact me for new wheel straps and fenders.
what if you have low car? like a Prius my bumper is touching the dolly and it will get damage
GabakUSA Free computer training use blocks of wood before the ramps when loading it. I assume you're saying that it had sit when you load it correct?
Does that help answer your concern?
Great video 📹 I'm looking to buy one. May do some towing here and there with an suv. When you say full size suv , you mean like a nissan armada or smaller than that?
Toyota says do not tow manual transmission flat tow
Great instructions bro!!! Thank you for your compassion for others safety
Great info, I picked a dolly up and it dos not seem to tilt as much as yours does, at 1:46 when tilted can you tell me what the distance is between the frame and the lifted area is it 2" or ????? thanks
Literally the part I was most interested in was the basket straps and getting on right was just completely skipped over.
There is an updated video
@NoNonsenseKnowHow there is and I watched it! Thank you!
For towing AWD vehicles, can't you just use those tow dollies that tow truck wreckers use to raise the other 2 wheels? So all 4 would be off the ground. Also what does it cost to maintain that dolly? Does anything tend to wear or fail besides tires?
Can this be used to tow a ford e250 cargo van
I don't think that would be very safe honestly. You could do it but it wouldn't be safe
you put in neutral or you remove the drive shaft to tow de truck
neutral is fine if its a manual trans. Not safe to do it with auto trans that way though
You say for tow dolly put in neutral, You mean for old style 4x4s (if in 4x4 neutral its pretty much all neutral right? ).
Its a excellent instructional video.
Why can't you throw an automatic rear wheel drive in neutral and pull it?
it's not that you can't do it. It's that I wouldn't recommend it. Basically , the transmission is lubricated with a oil pump that spins when the engine is running. So if you were to tow it in neutral without the engine running, the trans is not being properly lubricated and could be damaged or even seize up.
idk about that rvs pull cars and trucks behind them all the time
MrBlaze256 Yes, you are correct, you don't know about it. lol. all joking aside though if you see somebody towing a rear wheel drive, automatic transmission vehicle chances are they have removed the drive shaft. I have personally seen an automatic trans in a Lincoln Mark VII lock up when the guy towed it without removing the drive shaft. Took about 50 miles on highway before it failed. Thanks for the comment! :)
Can you tow a 90 sierra single cab 4x2 with a 02 yukon ??
Not really a good idea to tow a rear wheel drive automatic. I assume the Sierra is automatic transmission?
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow yes it is
Was thinkking on removing drive shaft
What type of license do I use to move a car in this way?
Depending on what state you're in the car dolly must be registered and tagged. I never registered mine, and would just make sure that the vehicle I was Towing have a plate on it.
NoNonsenseKnowHow I live in California ... I have a normal C license and I do not know if I can pull a car? . What he wants to tell me is that if a car does not have license plates, the police can stop me?
@@vmanuel674 I'm not sure about the laws in California
Shouldn't you drop the driveshaft?
No need to if its manual trans.
If you're going long distance its not a bad idea to though.
I'm in the process of buying a project RX7 which is about 500 miles away. Chances are I'd be using a dolly to save on costs. Would much rather drop the driveshaft than take the risk, yaknow?
yes I agree. Most of my tows are within 20 miles. if I go long distance I use my 18 foot flat deck
NoNonsenseKnowHow but if it is a rear wheel drive truck with automatic transmission than I'd need to disconnect the drive shaft, right?
run chain thru wheels, install heavy dutylocks when not in use , now secured
Good job bro
How do you release the tow dolly
I need a dolly for how much money
Can you show below to see how the tilt movement is?
That toyota is GARBAGE
good vid
would this make the mileage on the Toyota go up?
Jay Jerevicious yes. because thr speedometer is driven off the transmission. if you're going long distance I would suggest putting your transfer case in the neutral position. Then the mileage won't go up
kzguy2 well I'm trying to transfer a very low car might just have to make some crazy long ramps onto my trailer
puedo jalar una gmc sierra
It depends what your tow vehicle is. And is the sierra manual or auto.
hey buddy one question did I can use that's for mustang 04??
miguel lopez if its manual trans then yes. i dont recommend it for auto. it can cause damage to the transmission. unless you tow it backwards however that is also relatively unsafe especially at highway speeds. I've done it many times with great success. give it a thumbs up if the video helped you. Thanks
kzguy2 yes is manual v8 did can work?
yes
kzguy2 thanks bro I will trying this Monday is one hour and half road
I got an 02 with an automatic. What's wrong with throwing the car in neutral and pulling it?
meth is a hell of a drug lmfao
Hmm. I don't smoke meth so i suppose ill take that as a compliment? Just trying to get the point across in a timely manner so you can dolly on down the road safely.
+kzguy2 Tweetlejuice. lol
