Beautiful vid! Thanks for verifying the fact of not needing all that plastic and relocation of sensor and those stupid hoses that always crack. Got mine in 05, HD was a slap in the face for discontinuing the best engine made. Kudos to you!
Sounds way easier than what I did haha. Looking back I would have used a cut off wheel or something, or just bought a bench top belt sander to dress it.
@@jorgearibeiro Supposedly it gives more power but that's highly debated. Honestly it's probably marginal at best, and makes the intake noise far louder to the point that it's kind of obnoxious. Mine came without the top and snorkel already, so me trimming the bottom off really just made accessing everything else far simpler since I no longer need to pull the entire assembly out of the way to get to the plugs, battery, etc.
@@GearheadPhil Thanks for the feedback. It was something I really noticed, that made everything easier. I think it was a great idea you had, I'll probably do the same. Thanks for sharing, big hug.
I've been running it for over a year now, but the engine blew around the time I was planning on making a video on it in March of last year. I've got it pretty dialed now and want to make a video about it at some point, but life has been pretty insane for me lately so I've not been willing to record and edit haha
@@GearheadPhil Yeah I have been following your videos about that. I know the feeling about crazy life myself. I have the PV and am now ordered the autotune kit. I am not sure where to drill the holes for the bungs since my 2007 doesn't have any O2 sensors. That's why I asked the question.
@@ShawnGrixti The bungs ideally need to be above the "horizon" line of the pipe, if you will. You don't want them coming from the bottom due to condensation issues and things like that, but on the other hand this makes it so you can hide them. Your best bet would be to talk to a bike shop who deals in performance upgrades, they can help you out. Or, you can buy an aftermarket exhaust with the bungs in it. My first exhaust was a Rinehart that had the bungs, so I was good there. When I built the engine I brought home a Fitzgerald Ground Pounder exhaust and the bungs for this one were placed based on lots of research and info from engineers in the industry. They're visible right on top of the pipes, but the placement is supposedly optimized. You might see it in some of the videos from the rebuild.
Hey man. Had any issues with the machine performing worse hence removing plastic between engine and intakte leading to hotter air getting sucked in and ultimately less power? I did this mod after seeing your video and a kind of reputable guy here in my area was not impressed with the functionality. He said that queues and slow riding will get affected negatively, but then again I have hard time seeing the heat from the engine being a problem riding 20+ mph? I´m two weeks out from getting the bike dyno´d, would love your feedback on this matter man! Great video :)
As far as I can tell, this has been proven time and time again to be a useful method to increase power a bit. During idling and sitting in traffic I see IATs creep up, but that happens on the stock setup anyway and it cools off within a minute after taking off again. A company called Motohooligan makes an intake for it that's basically this setup, and lots of guys have great results with that. My NRS gets pretty good airflow through the front of the bike where the factory snorkel would be, so that offsets a lot of it I would think. Idk, I feel like people take this shit way too seriously lol, it's honestly not that deep haha
@@GearheadPhil I feel the same😂 People are so anal about these small stuff as I see it.... Well thank you very much for your quick reply. Any suggestions for where to place the air sensor and compressor for air ride? I guess I´ll have to make some kind of plastic plate mounting against the battery or something.. Cheers man
@@JakobKaizen The older I get, the more I roll my eyes at all the arguing about this stuff haha. I'm really wanting to make it back to the V-Rod rally again this year to throw it on the dyno to get numbers, but I still havent put larger injectors in it so I'm running conservative on timing and not making as much power as it would all out. I've taken on too many other projects since I did the V-Rod a couple years back, but I've considered doing some work on it soon since I've not messed with it much since my last upload. But yeah, the worst part about cutting up the air box is having to make your own bracket for the compressor. I'm sure there's lots of posts on 1130cc.com about it, so you might find direction there.
My local dealer had them on backorder for months and kept pushing the date so I gave up and got a couple from Fitzgerald Motorsports after the engine rebuild. I've had zero luck with getting most parts and have had to spend a lot of time calling various dealers, etc. to no avail. All around shitty situation considering I can find parts for way older bikes from different manufacturers pretty easily.
@@GearheadPhil thanks man! Great video by the way, I plan to trim down the airbox just like yours. The only issue I’m running into is that I don’t know where I’m going to mount the air suspension compressor unit. Also, just wondering how’d your engine die out?
@@mrkngkhan Ah yeah, can't help with that as I hear most people mount it in the tray. As for the engine, oil pump cavitated and spun a rod bearing. It's been rebuilt with cams, straight cut 2nd gear, etc. for about a year now and it's rowdy as can be!
I've done that before but managed to make it work. I've since moved the sensor and plan to make a video about that. I've fought issues with the tune since it wants to heat soak and relocating it fixed all of that.
You can, but I wondered if it would have heat soak issues there also. I'd love to test it if I had a spare lid. I've moved the sensor up front on top of the battery and it does a much better job of staying stable at that location.
I spent more time smoothing mine out than anything else. Looking back I probably would have just used tin snips since they could've cut the plastic pretty easily without the mess

Cool channel, picking up my nightRod today I’ll have to do some of these upgrades you have.
Awesome! Let me know if you have any questions!
I cleaned my airbox away with a chain drilling system. It was less messier, time-wise was around an hour.

Very good job I'm going to do it on my v rod
Whats the red "Thingy" you have plugged in for the hyper flash? I have the exact same bike and switched over to all Led's.
It's this: www.biketronics.com/bt801-smart-equalizer/
It's plug and play and I think it has a lifetime warranty!

Bro spray your hoses with AT-205 Re Seal. It stops hose cracking. Lasts a long time...Put some in a spray bottle and spray on all hoses.
I like this idea! I considered looking into this sometime soon since my hoses are all new after the rebuild.
Did you install the auto tune for the power vision? Do you have a video for the installation?
