    Hi Daniel, I had insomnia 1.5 years ago and your channel really helped me a lot and I recovered in a few months. Lately, my anxiety spiked up due to other stuff in life and insomnia came back with it, so this episode really helps. Thanks!

    Hi Daniel. Thanks for a great program. This episode was really a door opener for me. I have had insomnia for three years now and in the last 2 years I have slept very well for periods but every now and then, especially in connection with holidays or trips I have relapsed. The relapses have always been associated with very poor sleep and, above all, that I have completely lost confidence that I can sleep at all. It often takes me at least a week to get back on track. When I think of my insomnia as a phobia and that I can distance myself from my thoughts and feelings, I have suddenly found tools to be able to deal with these slumps. A key is to be able to accept getting insomnia again and that when it comes, don't fight against it, but just observe thoughts and feelings, i.e. don't start analyzing and trying to solve what can't be solved. In the past, I have tried to understand my feelings, or been afraid that the feelings will come and that I cannot control them.

      Totally resonated with me, being in very similar situation. Although entire knowledge is there and long weeks of great sleep, sometimes out of the blue there is sleepless night caused maybe with something random but brain automatically translates that to hipnic jerk or heart beating, and puff the sleep is gone for entire night..donno about you, but seems to me that acceptance that this will occasionally come will be forever or at least years more, seems like a some solution thatmay bring peace. Cheers, thanks for sharing

    Hi Daniel. Besides the thought process there is the physical feeling resulted from anxiety and is easier to notice it and to observe it and to befriend/accept/not reacting/ to it. The thought that produce anxiety is short but the body reaction stay longer. I have been into your school for some time but hasn’t write anything yet. Planing to do it soon. This conversation with the psychologist very interesting. Thank you.

    Daniel i have sleep phobia, and as you said in the video you should exposure like other phobia by sleeping less. my inner self is okay with little sleep -( around 3 hours) but what i fear is zero sleep for days. Should i deliberately go 1-2 days without sleep for exposure which is my biggest fear?

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rishav, great question, if you browse the channel you’ll find a video where I talk about the problems with traditional exposure therapy - manufacturing the threat to deliberately expose ourselves, I think when what we fear happens, that’s our chance for true exposure

    Hi Daniel, I'm tapering off zopiclone after 4+months, usually take one half of 7 MG pill, going down to 1/3 to 1/4 pill works sometimes , trying to get off them . I viewed a good number of your videos and have been off for 3 days . Those 3 nights I have had zero sleep .
    I don't even feel the least bit sleepy or tired day or night . It sounds crazy what should I do?

      Hang in there and of course no medical advice here, check with your doctor whenever concerned.
      Insomnia insight #365 can be helpful as it talks about never feeling sleepy.
      If you check the talking insomnia episode with Nick we talk about rebound insomnia and that can also really help.
      Hang in there!

      Hi Bert,
      No medical advice here but you know, I’d say understanding why we are experiencing something really helps.
      Here’s how I explain rebound insomnia:
      A lot of people try to come off medication but end up going back on it. This really happens mostly because they tried to come off. What do I mean by that? Well I mean we considered it a trial!
      When we come off a medication or a sleeping pill and think of it as an experiment, we think “Let me see if I can sleep without this” then we have started a trial. And whenever we are doing something as a trial, we want to keep track of how well we are doing.
      So we go to bed without taking the pill, and wonder what will happen. After 30 minutes we become a little bit worried, after one hour we think “oh my gosh I’m not gonna sleep at all.” But we decide to keep going and we sleep a little bit at night. But we decide to keep going with the trial.
      After four sleepless nights, having tried to go without the pill, we decide it’s not working and we go back on the pill. Then it seems for sure like we cannot sleep without it.
      But what actually happened is that it was the act of self monitoring and the trialing/experimenting that was the reason we didn’t sleep!
      Now when we start to understand, then we see that it doesn’t matter if we take a pill or not any given night, it’s about education.
      When we see that we are safe and nothing strange or unusual is happening, then peaceful sleep happen by itself.

    Hi. I’ve been listening to a bunch of videos and searching for it it’s ok to take a unisom or a melatonin If there’s a big day the next day. I don’t look to see if it’s working . It does almost always help. I don’t know how to not fear not sleeping if a big day follows because I’m non functional without sleep. It might lower my sleep confidence but it doesn’t make me analyze if it’s working or not. My anxiety about not sleeping has greatly improved since reading your book but I still wake up worried and panicked every night usually with mom guilt. Thank you for your help!

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Heidi, so glad things are easier and you know it’s like with parental guilt… what we do actually has little impact on what our children’s life is like… they just need to feel loved and safe, yet we have all these ideas (I’m not doing enough of this… I should be more like that bla bla bla) and we look for some mythical ideal way.
      Same thing when it comes to ourselves, when we look at taking some unison or melatonin before a big day as self care, seeing that it doesn’t matter as long as we love ourselves and don’t judge ourselves… then there’s no struggle

    During most of this episode, my brain deployed emotions of happiness and elation. I "trust" those emotions.
    During the parts about sleep restriction/compression etc and manipulating time in bed to produce better quality sleep, my brain deployed emotions of disgust and anger; I also "trust" these emotions. 😆
    Not to be rude to anyone, but more just brutally honest lol. Still loved the video.

I’ve learned sooo much from Nick and you know, he said after the show that he sees that it can be nice to have a niche whereas he’s a “generalist” if you will, teaching on all kinds of topics. Is there a possibility that your brain is damaged after severe anxiety and you’re unable to recover?
