    Great video. Just off my first solo out of Enstone (hopefully). It did make me smile listening to the heavy breathing at critical points. All the best in the skies.

      Ha ha! I know what you mean about the breathing! I never noticed it at the time but it shows how much we must be 'on edge' during those critical phases on the training. Good luck with your flying out of Enstone and thanks for adding your comment. :-) Sam

      Thanks for the comment Joey. If you're just starting out, my recommendation would be have a trial lesson with 2 or 3 local flying schools/clubs to get a feel for them, how they operate, teaching styles, etc. You'll probably get a good 'vibe' off the one that matches best with your own character. It would be good to ask each club's opinion on the LAPL or PPL route as well as there's pro's and con's to each. You could also have a search on the flyer magazine forum as it won't be the first time it's been discussed.
      Good luck with it all 👍

      Do you have your PPL now?

    • @samprice11
      @samprice11 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, I got my ppl about 2 years ago now. one thing I found that helped a lot is the 'armchair flying' by watching other people's videos as you get familiar with the day to day checklists, procedures, r/t, etc while you're relaxed at home. Plus you can replay parts of it that seemed unfamiliar. This is mainly why I thought this video may be useful to others as there weren't many QXC videos available out there. I highly recommend videos on TH-cam by a guy based in Blackpool called 'plane old ben' by the way.

    Great video, you fly like a pro even though you are a student there. I am sure you have passed now. One comment after landing at EGSC you should clear the dashed yellow lines marking the runway entrance before stopping to do the after landing checks, and you need to taxi on yellow taxi line, you were to the left of it a few times. (I am sure you know this now)

    • @samprice11
      @samprice11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, thanks for the comments. Yes the 'being left of the centre line' was a regular issue of mine back then (I presume it was maybe due to the sight line from the left seat??) Also, that's a good point you made about making sure you are over the 'hold line' before conducting the post landing checks. I got some 'coaching' on this from a controller at Gloscester around that time as well so I've not done that since either! ;-) It's amazing the number of mistakes that exist in this video once you look at it through the eyes of more experience.

    A GPS in the plane while doing your QXC? Nice, wish I had that luxury when I did mine.

    • @samprice11
      @samprice11 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, It's certainly a 'nice to have' in order to aid the situational awareness during the flight. Particularly handy, when you're operating so closely to the Birmingham airspace. Of course, this QXC was generally carried out using the old school chart, wizzwheel, stopwatch method though and all the planning is fully reviewed by an instructor before leaving. The GPS does give an element of reassurance though. I'd heard of a person doing that same flight previously, mistaking a couple of key landmarks due to stronger northly winds than planned and ending up infringing in Stansted airspace!! To be honest though, even a few years on, I still plan all my flights using the chart method first at home and then use the likes of sky demon just to confirm really and to use in flight. However, if the GPS did fail in flight, I'd still have the chart, marked up route and calcs to fall back on. I still even do the odd flight over the cotswolds every now and again just using the chart and hand calculated plog method in order to keep my skills fresh. Good practice if nothing else! :-)

      Yes, thanks a great point John. I now use a 'clicky' permanent marker secured with a bit of string to my kneeboard. I then use it write on a laminated A4 PLOG that I've generated. It then just wipes clean with a bit of alcohol on some kitchen roll to be re-used. Thanks again for the feedback 👍

    This was really helpful but the constant heavy breathing due to your mic being too close made it a little harder to watch. Just for future reference. Good job still.

    • @samprice11
      @samprice11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Laurie, I agree. It's a pity the mic kept picking it up. Unfortunately, I've found that it's a fine line between having the mic placement right and the squelch setting to stop my voice from breaking up. It's probably doesn't help that it's quite old headset and mic technology either...maybe that justifies me upgrading to a nice, new Bose headset! 😉
      Glad you found it helpful though.
