- I have finally opened the boxes and got these babies set up and put to work! In this video I take you along with me as I set up both the Woodland Mills tooth setter and the Grindlux 4000 bandsaw blade sharpener, and trial them out for the first time.
I have yet to open my sawmill. The snow stayed a long time this year, plus we were away at the off-grid property for a couple of weeks. (and searching for Scout took up a lot of time too). Now it is pouring rain everyday! 🤪
I hope to get the mill open very soon (this upcoming week), and although I don't have any major pressing things to mill right now, I do need some 2x4 type material for bracing of my cabin build, and need to mill some cedar boards as we have our little ore car hot tub project sitting in the carport now too!! 😉🤩
As always, thanks for watching and see you all again soon!
Yes. Definitely fascinated with your humor.
Such a joy to watch a mechanically inclined woman who knows how to use tools and isn't afraid to tackle a project and get her hands dirty! Absolutely fascinating and beautiful too... you can borrow my tools anytime!
I really like Sawing with Sandy. I get so excited when my TH-camr's universes collide!
I'm very impressed with your ability of mechanical aptitude. Most women would not attempt what you are doing and good luck
Sawing with sandy is the best! He convinced me to get a Woodland Mills sawmill, I didn't regret it!
Like a boss. Never get frustrated. You got this like everything you do.
01:00 "I'm trying to pay attention but he is so darn cute"
Now you know how we feel watching your videos. And thanks for this one, again. As suburban man I have no idea what's going on but it's fascinating. Also, agree on watching a tutorial vs reading a manual.
Danm girl, you only look better when I see this clip from b4. Love your looks and respect your talents.
LOL! 01:00 "I'm trying to pay attention but he is so darn cute" - That's our daily struggle watching "MICHY" in your super enjoyable videos! - It's a tough assignment, but I'm prepared to make the sacrifice, and I just love your humour and creativity... and the mountain views are just outstanding along with your emerald eyes! 😍
I've noticed my nap time comes soon after watching one of your posts n they're more peaceful. Thanx for sharing ...
Sawing with Sandy is guilty of providing too many details for many in his audience. But for someone like you he should be great resource :)
Sandy has been very helpful in my decision to buy a Woodland's sawmill.
Best move I ever made with my sawmill was to sharpen my own blades. Your sharpener should have an cam adjustment to lower the grinding stone into the gullet which does need sharpening along with the backside of the tooth. I typically sharpen a blade seven to ten times before they break. Definitely a money saver. Once you tinker with it several times you see what is needed, good luck your smart enough to figure it out. Hope your trip out of town is fruitful, looking to see what you bring back.
I like your channel. You are a good inspiration for other women. Even women can do technical stuff. Normally, they ask their husbands, friends to do the job !
Road trips are a good way to spend time together ❤
Your husband is One of the luckiest men on the planet, you ooze, breathe and completely make life worth living 😎🤘❤️
I've been fascinated from the beginning! You are so nice to watch.
Great job! You didn't give up and problem solved the issue.
Quite the dedication to get a tooth setter and sharpener like that. Good for you.
Your athleticism is always amazing.
Enjoyed the video, and the channel. You have something that is almost lost in this world. GOOD common sense. thanks for allowing us on you and Steve's journey, from SE Texas Bear :)
Love your videos! Steve seems like a very supportive spouse. I hope y'all had a great road trip.
Take care!
You amaze me Michelle!
Watching instructional videos on google is how I setup most of my machines in my workshop, I am the same as you and prefer to watch and not read the confusing instructions. I definitely need to make my coffee stronger so i can do handstands like you. I am on double shots of coffee now so maybe need to go up and have triple shots. Looking forward to seeing the mill up and running again and seeing how well the blades are sharpened. Thanks for posting Mich see you on the next one.
Well done with the hand stand👍
Glad to see you take the kids with you that's awesome
Love the way you work to solve your problems!!!👍👏☺️
That is a wonderful contraption.
Verry facinated, but you work it out.! 👌
If your blades are .042 they should be set at .021. The reason for sharpening the gullet is to remove any stress cracks that are not visible to the eye. I also like to sharpen the back of the tooth. I run a small sharpening business and I have sharpened hundreds of these blades. Good luck with your new machines.
Thank you this made my morning pleasent!
Your troubleshooting skills are impressive.
Now I see that when playing with accessories the most important thing is a correct angle. Of camera. )
Love that you watch sawing with sandy too!
Doing well it's your first go & it might loosen up with use 👍🏻👍🏻
I'm ready for the sailboat ⛵⛵
A cam nut! Yes that's what is! glad you figured it out so you can sharpen your blades. :)
well done, got that sorted.
Hi, you are absolutely gorgeous and an inspiration to many! Keep posting your blog
Impressed. Had no idea
Great video Michelle. 👍👍
I have to say I have rarely done anything besides watch music videos on you tube. I stumbled on your channel yesterday and now I feel like I have waisted alot of time by directing my attention to music videos only. Much thanks for the great videos as I have watched 6 this far and look forward to many more. 😊
bonjour Michelle. the learning curve is quite a "grind !" you'll be able to dial in at sometime. enjoy the good weather in British Columbia and in Alberta. what a beautiful landscape. Alberta is always a magical place.
Wow that's a huge house 😮😮😮
You're such a goil, and yet you kick ass and take names on every project you take on. I love the way you learn and the projects you churn out! Thanks for sharing what you do, MG!
Yes Sandy Has one of the best videos regarding sawmills but i would suggest to sharpen first before setting the tooth
Y A , great promise for more builds coming up, pref @ nice n chill, kudos to you ppl, n thx for sharing
Классное приобретение. Заточка ленточки 👍👍👍
I used to make and sharpen band saw blades for Western Australian high schools and make a bit of money on the side for our woodwork classes. This was before the days of hardened tips. Blades came in 100 metre boxes and when joining, we have to make sure we have an even number of teeth (matching the set) so the set doesent reverse every time around and break off the teeth. Our machine was motorised but did the same job you are doing but on much smaller teeth. We had a second machine that fed and filed the teeth using a three corner file at the rate of about 1 per second and we let the blade go around about three times. We used to lap and silver solder the blades with a clamp that snapped down and quenched the joint but we upgraded to an electric butt welding machine. That did the welding, grinding and tempering of the joint.
Hi Michygoss, love all your videos!
Here are some things I learned from a 5th generation master saw filer that I worked for.
-The gullet is where the chips get taken away after they are cut, this will get smaller as you cut the tooth back each time. It may result in less space for the wood chips as it fills, leaving no space for more chips and reduce your cutting speed as a result.
-It is natural therefore for the stone to cut it a little deeper as you sharpen but only a little at a time as grinding too fast may cause burn marks that may give way to cracks in the future.
-Over time the stone will rake over the back of each tooth as they pass by, also normal but only a grazing pass here with no heavy grinding. This will ensure that all of the teeth stay uniform in height and cut evenly. Should one tooth be higher or lower it will cut harder (or not at all), then the one next to it giving you a hit and miss feel. This may result in poor cutting, stress the blade with fatigue and cause it to break prematurely. This usually happens as a result from hitting a nail and breaking off teeth or when coming back around near the weld and the spacing change grinds off a tooth accidentally while sharpening.
-You should get on average 5 sharpenings before your blades break under normal use. With gentle use and carful sharpening I am sure you will get more.
Just passing on what I have learned, hope this helps.
Awesome! Thank you! So what do I do when each tooth is kind of being hit differently by the grinding wheel? That’s sort of what was happening - some were grinding a bit too much, and then the next one would barely (if at all) touch the tooth. That’s why I felt like I needed to babysit it and make adjustments while it was in operation.
?
@@michygoss7148 You may have figured out why that was happening, though my thoughts on that is you were hand filing before, which is not going to be as accurate as a pre-set sharpener, as you know, so while using the pre-set sharpener you will get more ground off on some teeth as needed to bring all the teeth back to a uniform height.
Put the feeder on the same tooth tht is being sharpen will make it accurate every time.
@@jimmieusaf-pol5818 ok. You might be right. I’d have to be sure that that particular blade was one that I resharpened vs one that I only used new and was put to the side. I’ll try and take a look at each blade and see if I can pick them out.
Thank you!
@@michygoss7148 You're welcome. Also band saw blades, like for your mill and the one I have in my woodshop, are cut out of large sheets of metal before the ends are welded together, and I believe the price and quality of production dictate the precision of grind and tooth set during that process, so don't believe all blades are created equal. So even a new/er cheaper blade may require more maintenance(grinding/tooth setting) initially to make it cut better.
All the videos that I’ve watched of you, and all the hard work you do, how do you stay so beautiful through the whole thing? You are an amazing woman. Keep up the great work.
Lady you rock. You are great
Always something new about you! One minute sharpening saw blades, the next busting out a perfect handstand legs together and straight, held for 5 seconds or more shows training as a gymnast.
Yes, Sawing with Sandy!! My 2 favourite Canadian saw millers in one video :))))
Absolutely fascinating
That top nob on the blade grinder adjusts how deep your grinding wheel goes. Back it off a little bit. I have the same sharpener, it struggles like yours. Thumbs up for the handstand..... lol.
10:40 "Eletricity scares me."
Me too, and it's my job!
Hi, I loved your work and especially when you understood the operation of the machine and the lack of the part. I congratulate you because it is not easy to mount such a device for the first time. I say it again, I congratulate you
Thank you!
Very good video 👍 👍
Ok, you have done it. I am inspired. I already started making my own guitars out of found/reclaimed wood but now, after seeing your brilliant work, I want to build my own sheds, cubbbies, gates, doors, fences and castles.
😂
Michelle ,,,, That was great. Your the best . Be Safe Dave in Ohio
So capable, so adorable😌
This is a nice compliment !
You are truly a amazing woman, and super awesome.
Great video
Sawing with Sandy is someone I follow as well he provides good content.
Love your videos
Hello Michelle, is their anything you can't do? Handstands, build anything, dips in the lake. You can do it all. AND very pleasing to the eyes. Love your vids. You're adorable.
Peace and love, Tim
Electricity Tim. Electricity. 😂 I’d kill myself! 🤭
@@michygoss7148 I bet you could handle it. You're already "Electrifying". 😘
Lots of technical fun! Love that stuff! Leave us with a mystery for next time, heh? Got me wondering! lol
Its the sigh of relief, after getting the blade advancer working.
That’s so cool you sharpen your own blades
sawing with Sandy is the man!!!
i have the same set up, do the sharpening on the face, then sharpen the gullet seperately
I see below that you have real experts giving advice, so I won't even try. What I will say is that Steve must be hugely proud of his soul mate for her agility and ingenuity!! :)
Video was awesome and always nice to learn new things about new tools right much love from Portland Indiana
The passenger in the middle looks highly intelligent and regal.
Good work and looking lovely
God Bless ..... love the dogs
Hello, thank you for a real life demo- I will be putting my sharpener together in a month or so so this gives me areas to pay attention to.
You’ll make a good bloke yet. Death before instructions. Kidding of course really impressed you figured out that retainer there were precious few clues.
One of my first jobs at an industrial tool sales was building Lenox bandsaw blades and repair none of the grinding wheels ever went to full gullet depth even the grinding wheel that smoothed the blade after welding so i think you're good Michy👍😁❤✌
Ok!! Good to know. Thanks Jim. I figured it was set up the way it should work, not to the way my brain thinks 😊
Sandy is good I watch sawing with sandy
New holiday is unboxing day.
Love how you figure things out. Enjoyable content as always.
Nice handstand, and with heavy boots too!
SMART AS A WHIP
When in doubt always ask Sandy. He's like the spokes person for woodland Mills. By the way, you can call them. They are actually quite nice to talk to.
I have spoken with them in the past, and yes - they are great! But I feel like they’re trying to reduce the call volume and get you to email your question instead. 🤷🏻♀️
Enjoy your road trip....cheers.
Hi Gossi, you’re intuition is amazingly beautiful, good work, your a real trooper keep on keeping on, Hamilton Waikato New Zealand.
One very smart lady.
Every time I watch you I'm more impressed, you nailed it with that set screw on the cam forwarder, you have a very mechanically adept mind no wonder you do so much cool shit you're awesome, yup a genius 🥰
Odd i get destracted watching your videos like you did lol. Great content
Michelle is a real sweetheart. Just look at all the comments and how she responds to them. Adorable.
Awe! Spanx! ☺️
The high lite of my day
I Wear Tennis Elbow Straps for the reason of over reaching with my circular saw. They have them for wrists to. I do a lot of repetition type work. The torque from power tools can sneak up. GOOD LUCK.
With all the talents between you and Steve I’m surprised that you were going to buy a camper. I see you as someone that would purchase a gently used bluebird school bus, gutting it over the winter and building your own motor home. I was thankful to see your use of hearing and eye protection; safety is a detail often overlooked until it’s too late.
The bear was probably interested in sharpening its claws or looking for a pedicure.
Wishing you, Steve and your furry kids a blessed week with gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace princess.
I would love to do that, but both of our plates are jam packed. Still haven’t picked a rig yet, but you can be sure that whatever we do end up getting, I will most certainly put some michy touches into it 😁
@@michygoss7148 I understand completely. Please remember to take time for your self and yourself. Peace princess.
Nice to see you have a couple of toys to play with, As with all new gadgets it's a case of getting use to them and learning how to set them up each time, Good handstand
Good video.
You are pushing the tooth over to one side then you do the second the opposite way to get a good cut for clearing the saw dust.
My mill is sitting half build at the moment had to have a knee op. Getting old isn't good with all the new toys I can now can afford.
I'm still saving to get the sharpener and setter, you figured that thing out like a pro. I like to watch Sandy also. Can't wait to see how the blade works. Thanks for the video
I've always been told Canadian women have beauty beyond compare. It's true, it's true.
15:30 Well done! 👍
Nice work getting the tools setup. Plus you get extra points for handstands while you work!
