WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

God didn't get it wrong in the Old Testament . . . situations changed so morality changed to match the new situation . . . So, in other words, Christianity clearly supports the concept of situation ethics.

If the all knowing being is the one who MADE you, then he, she, it or they made you the way that you are. And they would therefore KNOW what you would do throughout your entire life, all your words, beliefs and actions, because you're THEIR work.

This intelligent man has wasted his entire life researching a deity, and ending up with a moral system where he can accept slavery, genocide and rape. Under the right circumstances of course. Pascal was wrong. It's not free. It's very very costly to follow a religion.
If you can't answer a clear "yes or no" question with a yes or no, then you probably already know your position is indefensible.
The trouble is that yes/no questions can be leading or dishonest questions, and not everyone agrees when they are.

Unless the question is dishonest, leading, loaded, or does not account for further possibilities; “Have you stopped beating your wife?” is the classic, but I’ve recently been thinking about “Do you want to allow prayer in schools?” (I think students and teachers can pray on their own time whenever they have it, but the school shouldn’t tell them to pray, so neither answer is accurate). Though here the question is pretty simple.

Fluffykeith Just read all the comments. We all need to rise above calling one another to gain self respect. Far to many people today project their inadequacies onto others, which they think turns them into something important, but it doesn’t. Introspection will do this over time.

A moral code however is needed, when you want to control people ..
I'm an atheist. My moral compass comes from my observation that what goes around comes around. If I treat others better then that type of behavior becomes the moral standard. Then once it is established that better moral standard directly benefits me because there will be less conflict and other problems in the society that I have to live in. Being moral is just a logical concept because it benefits me along with everyone else.
Summary: Christian calls in to declare his book is needed to have a moral code. Christian cannot think for himself.
It always struck me how immoral a christian can be even in the 21st century. I am amused to see how far they are ready to go in order to prove their blood thirsty fairy tale god´s book written by 2,000 years ago. And although we do know better today, they do not feel ashamed.
Hence I found it very important that Matt exposes these guys! At least we know who they really are!

When you find yourself in the position of asking 'what's wrong with owning a person as property?' that should be a *huge* red flag that something has gone horribly wrong in your life and you need to step back and look for what has warped you to such a huge degree.

No one who posites a God as the arbiter of morality can claim to be moral themselves. Moral people don't require someone else to tell them right from wrong because they possess the capacity to determine that for themselves. Furthermore, no more individual requires the threat of eternal punishment for them to behave in a moral manner. So should that becomes a part of your argument, in that moment, you've defined yourself into a losing argument.

People who volunteer to go into war-torn areas to give medicine and shelter are not being enslaved or forced into servanthood to do this they volunteer they're not being owned by another person. They can stop volunteering anytime they want they are not being forced for 6 years into servanthood to be released in the 7th year. They also when they sign up to volunteer they're not being forced into being a volunteer for the rest of their life they can leave anytime they want even if they volunteer realize it's something they didn't want to do and leave an hour later.
Servanthood in the Bible was not voluntary on a good note.

I don't know what those difficult words mean, but I propose we do that with all Christians.
We have 2 cats and a dog, and the truth behind it, they own us! We don't own them. They are family, they are loved and we take better care of them than we do ourselves a lot of the times. If this caller compares pet ownership to slavery they simply shouldn't have pets!

The cat analogy is completely broken. Humans are slaves to the cat, we feed them, we let them have free reign to sleep and move wherever they please. Show me any domestic housecat that isn't the boss of their surroundings.

This notion that God is required for morality tends to be espoused by people who are regurgitating some predigested version of Augustine, without ever having studied the original. And Augustine is merely a rehash of Plotinus via a Christian lens. And Plotinus is merely an update of Plato. Talk about a shadow of a shadow of a philosophy.

I used to argue that true morality was not possible without God. I wasn’t a sociopath, but I’d been fed the line that I *ran the risk* of devolving into sociopathy without the restraining influence of the Holy Spirit. Which turned out to be a flat lie. I’m a much more compassionate and aware person today than I ever was as a fundagelical.
Not even going to listen to the nonsense. If you HAVE to be threatened to be a moral person, then you are a failure as a human being. No God or deity will change that. Honestly, the attitude that humans are just TERRIBLE creatures who need to be redeemed into something else is just foolish. And it assumes that anyone not of THEIR God or deity is inferior. Seems pretty arrogant to me.
If you HAVE to have eternal damnation held over your head to NOT be a complete POS to others, then the fault is in YOU, NOT in everyone else. Oh, and for the record, I've been treated worse by the religious than by anyone else. I'm 61 and I can say that without fear of contradiction. The level of judgement coming from those whose book tells them NOT to judge others is astonishing. I do my best to stay away from people like that.
I have been treated the worse by atheist, truly without respect. Religious people always, without exception, treated me with respect and always helped When i needed. Atheist didn't, always were cold, obnoxious, salty and unrespecteful.

I conversed with a inerrant Bible believer. I opened the topic of slavery in the Hebrew Bible. His take was what if civilization degraded back to a point where slavery would be acceptable again...a modern world wide civilization devastating catastrophe happening where the old testament would be applicable again...dang!!!...then the testament on how to handle slaves would be again applicable....tsk...tsk...tsk...

I have a Labrador called Katie. I feed her, take her for walks, pet her and give her a comfortable place to sleep. I've never beaten her, nor do I wish to. I throw balls for her, she races away, catches them and brings them back to me, when if she wished, she could just take off and keep going, and I could never hope to catch her. I only have her on a lead in public because the law requires me to, and in case she is tempted to jump out into traffic to chase a squirrel or a rabbit.

I dont understand how they think that the most immoral character is the arbiter of a good moral code. Then they give this character a free pass for all the evil deeds he does and claim it is good.
Owning pet is a horrible analogy to use against me. I live in the country with a dog and a cat and have no fenced in yard. I let them go outside when they want to and they can come back if they want to. There'll be periods where I don't see my dog for 2 or 3 days at a time. I don't consider myself to be their master nor them my slaves.
