  • Amjad Ali Khan is one of the undisputed masters of the music world. For many, he takes on a celestial avatar when he is playing the Sarod. Born to Sarod icon Ustad Haafiz Ali khan, he gave his first performance at the age of six. Over the course of his career, he has delivered his music in a flexible instrument line that is vocal in its expressiveness. He has reinvented the technique of Sarod playing which today is distinct in its nomenclature. He has won numerous accolades including a Grammy nomination, the Crystal Award by the World Economic Forum and has performed at venues world over like the Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. His sons, Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan, are also very talented and celebrated Sarod players.Today, they are considered as one of the finest Sarod players and have obtained a very special place for themselves among music enthusiasts across the world. They are an inspiration for the younger generation of musicians.

    Does anyone know the background or organizers of this? I'm specifically interested in the amplification - four simple mikes with some sort of directional shield, 12 or 8 inches away, and it sounds GREAT? Mike type, preamps, any guesses? And all the sarods are IDENTICAL, no?
    P.S. LOVE the music, "playing in the band" is not conventional but it surely is a path growing wider and deeper every passing year. We HAVE to encourage experiments, even if the individual results aren't what we want. OF COURSE NOT, that's why it's an "experiment"....

      During the old days, the musicians used to perform for the Kings and it would be considered indecent if the musician's foot pointed towards the king. Hence out of respect, the musician would cover their feet. And the tradition continued.
      I, once had the opportunity to attend Pandit Birju maharaj 's concert and he explained this concept to the audiences.

      They dont use their feet to 'always' and 'exclusively' maintain taal-it happens occasionally and in charged situations. There are two reasons as to why he does this. One is respect to the instrument-anything that is associated with Saraswati is given a certain elevation and the bare feet denotes baseness. Secondly is looks very DIGNIFIED. Your feet sticking out is an unprofessional and somewhat ungainly thing on stage. Just because Ravi Shankar or even Ali Akbar did it doesnt justify it by an means-its plain awkward. If you dress well overall then why neglect the feet. If your not wearing socks, then a shawl is a good solution really. Basic concepts of etiquette and propriety.

    • @ankandhar8987
      @ankandhar8987 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Irony is my friends. we miss the trance of such melody in debating on mere exposure of feet. I mean who cares .. are we in a state of calm and peace when we are listening to the instrument.?? are we actually feeling the music?? did the alap drowned us in meditation?? no, why ??cause we are after a Shawl...

    Muslim musicians and artists gave so much to India and look what's happening now with Muslims. Being killed because Hindu Indians suspect them of having beef in the fridge. On top of that Hindu Indians condoning the killing of an innocent man who supposedly had beef in the fridge. Later the police found out it was not beef. Before anyone starts bashing :) I know this is not the right forum and we should enjoy music. But I am also enjoying the music of the maestro :)

Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Ajoy Chakroborty, Pt D.T. Joshi, Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia.. Please dnt add religious colours in these sacred and heavenly sounds and their creators.... +sightsandsoundsofpak 1st question, do you know anything about music? 2nd question, would you accept Ustad Amjad Ali Khan after learning that he performs Saraswati puja at home? 3rd question, you have any idea on what's happening to Pakistani minorities on daily basis?
      Your extra obsession for religion and conversion has given the world such unrest, yet you look for others' faults?

Tansen was hindu many got converted due to mughal court. Amjad ali khan's wife is Hindu, Aamir Khan, Sharukh khan's wife is Hindu. Salman Khan, Saif Khan' s moms are Hindus. AR Rehman's musician Father is Hindu. Muzafar Ali's wife is hindu etc.Most of the successful liberal muslims you are quoting are half hindus , married to hindus even Mughals rulers after Akbar were half hindus. Even your ancestors were Hindus!
