- Almost 900 people crossed the Channel on Tuesday - the most in a single day this year so far.
The Home Office believes over 12,300 have entered the country this way since the start of the year - which is almost a fifth more than this time last year.
Well lots of the parties have set out how they would look to tackle the problem...
Labour have pledged a New Border Security Command to prosecute small boat gangs.
The Conservatives want to plough ahead with the Rwanda scheme with regular flights.
Reform want all illegal migrants detained and deported.
The Lib Dems would provide safe and legal refuge routes.
While the Green Party would replace the Home Office with a Department for Migration.

Claim asylum in the continent you are from. Middle Eastern migrants should go to rich countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain etc. If I had to flee the UK due to war, I'd go to France not half way around the world.

The thing is, drug gangs who import and deal drugs has a massive impact on our services, albeit to a very slightly lesser extent to what the volume of migrants is having.
Drug users at the more extreme end they a massive expense on the medical services, homelessness, losing their jobs, unemployable at the worse end,
At the lower end they tend to be antisocial and engage in criminal activities, but still have a high impact on society.
But the governments have not been able catch and prosecute these gangs they are still here.
Then you have the people trafficking gangs who hold their commodity (people) in some appalling conditions, these gangs have been prolific for a number of years, again the governments have not been able to catch and arrest these gangs. It still goes on.
Even if they are successful at catching drug and people trafficking gangs, another one pops up in their place. This model of catch and detain does not work.
So how and the hell does Labour think that the outcome will be any different at stopping the migrant gangs from operating.
If you can catch them, arrest them and prosecute them, it does not stop the operations.
Nigel has the right idea. But he will have to deal with all these do gooders which seem to have a powerful voice and the back of the courts as Rishi found out. I do think that Nigel has more of a backbone and is made of sterner stuff and as a result will get more done. Vote Reform UK.

If Afghanistan (or any country!) is deemed unsafe, then in priciple, we need to take in EVERY person from that country. Why are we limiting the arrivals to just those few thousand who manage to scrape together or steal enough money to pay their way! The argument for taking ANY refugee is ludicrous. Take none, and even more importantly, take not one more immigrant. Our standard of living and our entire society is collapsing into chaos and anarchy.
When we can't afford to look after our own then we can't afford to import more.

My sympathy is with over run councils, housing, nhs not young men being told go to Britain and be given everything.
