Have you hiked the Current River Section of the Ozark Trail from Pike Creek to Peck Ranch? Was the Burned Area north of Hunter Camp as bad for you as it was for me??
Dude I feel for you. There is a re-route right there and all trails doesn’t show it. I made the same mistake a few years ago. Brutal downfall there but still a few markers. It was awful. I did an out and back from Hwy 60 to Peck Ranch border and figured it out on the way back. It was much much much better on the re-route. I also Thru-hiked it last Dec and I made sure to not make the same mistake again. BRUTAL and u filmed it, RESPECT brother.
If I only knew!!! 😢😂 tbh next time I’m there I’ll probably just follow the road past the worst of it and then bushwhack back to the trail. I have to imagine that’s easier. Congrats on completing your thru-hike! I’m sure it was pretty sweet in December.
“The in-between” is the perfect phrase. Sometimes I would think that’s what the Ozark Trail is, the connection between state parks. But I will say it’s worth it
😂 it was rough, but Peck Ranch was definitely worth it. Starting at Peck Ranch and going north on the Current River Section is pretty spectacular. As you’ll see next week 😎
Were you surprised that you didn't encounter people on the trail? September/October seems like by far the best time of year to do the OT, I would have expected more people encounters :) Great footage as always. I hope this series brings you a bunch more subs!
I started on a Monday so I guess it made sense to not see that many people on the less trafficked sections. That was the case for the whole hike, alone Monday-Wednesday, people starting on Thursday. The further north I got the more people I saw. I only came across 2 other thru-hikers which surprised me, both were going south. And thank you Jake! Really appreciate the support.
I hiked the Current River section from Hwy 106 to Powder Mill in early March a few years ago and didn't do nearly as much bushwhacking. The trail was, at times, tough to navigate but mostly clear. I still ripped my clothing and was scratched up though. I also went through Peck Ranch, didn't see any Elk, skipped the campground and resupplied at Powder Mill. Your weather looks much better than what I experienced. Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like you had an equally awesome trip. I did get very lucky with weather. I was in a great window of no rain for 3 weeks which was pretty amazing. Thank you for watching!
I’ve certainly considered it. For the past few years I’ve had the AllTrails Premium membership, which has worked wonderfully for me. Getting a garmin as well seemed like a duplicate piece of gear that I didn’t really need so I’ve held off. For this thru-hike though my mom did gift me a SpotX Tracker which I carried. Tbh it was really more for people back home to follow along, but I guess nice to have in case of an emergency. But with the iPhones new SOS feature that also seems a bit redundant as well.

You hike places I would never hike, so I will just watch you as you as you treverse through the in-betweens of all these familiar-to-me places I love.

Awesome
Thanks!
I can't wait for the next episode to see if you jump in at Rocky Falls! 😅
We’ll see!!!
Thank you for your sacrifice 😂. I might pass on this trail.

That looked like some rough bushwhacking. Thanks for the info on AllTrails. You read good and bad reviews on it. Also, thanks for sharing your hike.
Of course! I’m glad it helps.

You ever considered getting a Garmin?
