This is a musical masterpiece, with the band at their creative peak. Super smooth horn presentation. Vocal arrangement top notch. This will be listened to for all time!

From Songfacts: Chicago's main songwriter, Robert Lamm, wrote this after a particularly exhilarating 4th of July spent in New York's Central Park, where there were steel drum players, singers, dancers and jugglers. Lamm and Peter Cetera sang lead on the track. Robert Lamm based the melody of this song on "You Won't See Me" by The Beatles, something he openly admitted. This song contains some of the most famous nonsense singing in rock: after Robert Lamm sings the line, "Singing Italian songs," he sings some made up words approximating the Italian language.

"Eh Campari, is it not, eh, Can you dig it? Yes, I can." These are the lyrics.

The Fourth of July is our American Independence holiday (July 4, 1776), in which crowds gather for parades, outdoor concerts and fireworks celebrations and most everyone is in a good mood.

For me growing up in New York City, this song brings me back to my childhood going to Central Park every weekend. People dancing, people singing, a man selling ice cream - All of it, that is what goes on in Central Park every day. It really describes my memories perfectly!

NativeNYerChicHK since DeBlasio took over as Mayor , now it’s people stealing, people mugging ,a man selling drugs in the Park.

Dick Slinger Well I don’t particularly love DeBlasio but I grew up in the 70s and 80s - I don’t care what anyone thinks, I lived it - Central Park won’t ever be as bad as it was back then, I can say with with absolute certainty.

NativeNYerChicHK me too, Ed Krotch and Dinkins were absolute failures as Mayors. Giuliani cleaned everything up and DeBlasio, the City Council and the morons in Albany are sending the back to the bad old days. I

I think the "every day's the Fourth of July" is just saying that every day feels like a holiday. The song was inspired by a day in New York's Central Park, but as it happens, virtually every city in the US has at least one major park like that.
