- I really enjoyed figuring this one out. Thanks to @BenWingyMusic for requesting it. Thanks to @RenMakesMusic for writing a great piece of music.
Thanks to @MyHelify who's video helped me fill in a couple of blanks. He has tab for this for sale here www.myhelify.c...

You’re ear is excellent at finding pitches. Nice….the grouping of the end of the last verse is 12312312 with 1s being the thumb. Otherwise sounds like you nailed it!!
Yo Mike thanks for checking out my channel. Much appreciated. I knew there was something wrong with that pattern, when I watched it back I noticed I played it 2 or 3 different ways. D'oh!
@@fret-less I do that too sometimes…..
Remember 12312312. It’s a very popular rhythmic pattern….especially for finger style. Cheers
Isn't Ren a superstar. What a video. What a work of genius. This ren video appeared on my feed one day. I was gobsmacked by his song and playing style. Blew me away. Great that you see the same thing. Great tutorial. His tune makes you wanna learn it. It's so powerful 🎸 rock on Dean 🇬🇧
So far you have the most accurate tutorial I have seen thank you for teaching in such detail I really think this song deserves some awards give ren his Grammy already sheeeesh!!!
Thanks Shade. Much appreciated. Grammys are just about the music industry patting each other in the back for their sales. I doubt Ren would want one. I’m sure if he hasn’t already he’ll be receiving a nice plaque from TH-cam though 😂
Kudos on reverse engineering Rens masterpiece and teaching it the way it was meant to be played. Love it 🙌
Cheers Alistair, I'm not convinced it's perfect, but I hope there's enough here for folks to figure it out. By far the most complex tune I've ever tried to figure out.
Thank you mann I can't wait to learn this one
I just discovered this myself - as an old man, one of those moments like listening for the first time to Stairway to Heaven, or Paranoid Android - unforgetable. I have no idea who his influences are, but I think he likes muse also? Matt Bellamy is a fan of Rachmaninov I believe, and the music I thought of in reaction to this was first of all Rachmaninovs Prelude in C# minor (Piano), Shostakovichs Polka from the Golden Age (again piano) and in terms of guitar Brittens Nocturn after John Dowland and Vladimir Milkulkas Three Railway Stations on One Road. You're probably aware of these, but a good listen if nothing else. Don't shoot me - just what it reminded me of.
This is an amazing piece of work and thanks for breaking it down for us. 🤜🤛
@@Re9sTwitch really powerful stuff. I’m told it’s a baroque style. (I know very little about classical music). He plays more of it in the intros to the tales of jenny and screech which I highly recommend if you haven’t heard them yet. I’ll be sure and have a listen to the pieces and players you mentioned too. I’m always up for listening to something I’ve never heard before. Thank you.
This is definitely a more complicated one but im actually understanding it very well ill soon know how to play this
Great. Love to see a few shots of you guys playing this when you’ve got it figured out. 😁
@@fret-less no problem mate do you have insta or anything i can send u something on there
Not into social media but I do post some chords on Tik Tok under the same name if that's any use to you.
@@fret-less yeah man no problem
best tutorial of this song
period. thank you 🙏🏽
Thank you so much, that's very kind of you. He's not your average guitar player is he? I'm always super challenged trying to figure out what he's playing. Great fun. One day I'll figure out The Tales. haha
You should do violet's tale next, that song would be great to learn
You guys like giving me tough challenges :) I guess I'd really need to do the full trilogy if I were to attempt that. No promises, but you never know.
@@fret-less Really going to look forward to it, another suggestion is Animal flow.
@@Mckaylinnaidoo. haha I uploaded animal flow on Monday :)
@@fret-less phenomenonal, I haven't kept up with the dates but I will check it out right away!
There is a lot more going on than people think. It’s so nice to see a breakdown like this. Thank you!
Hey there Scottie welcome back. Sooo much going on in this tune. I think it's an absolute masterpiece, I just wish I could explain it all and play it well enough to do it justice. I'm glad you found my clumsy attempt useful or at least entertaining.
Thank you for doing this and going slowly. I have been learning this by practicing each phrase you cover weekly. Not that far along but this is so great and helpful 🙌🙏
Thanks @violetbick8919 I had to go very slowly on this one too. It's a great piece but by no means an easy one. Sounds like you have the right approach though. Keep at it, you can reach your goal.
Thank you 🙏 I hope you cover Violet’s Tale also 🙂 I’ve been working on that one using tabs. Not easy either 🙃 gotta have those goals🤘
@@violetbick8919 Yeah it's one of those I need to slow down to quarter normal speed and super analyse to see if I can get what he's playing. It's definitely a tough one. I've had a couple plays about but I'm no where close yet I'm sorry to say.
Thank you
Wow! Don't know how I missed this, as I caught your tutorial on Animal Flow (Acoustic.) I think Ren's come a long way in the past couple of years with his acoustic work (on this and Violet's Tale in particular.) So, that's what promoted him--in my opinion--from "Hey, he's pretty good on guitar as well as fantastic vocals" to "Holy Shit, I need to look deeper into this Ren character's music!? [and that was before the new stuff he's been pumping out the past six months.]
Also, LOL at your "Oh Dear..." before the News Flash section.
Agreed, I like the way he uses alternative chord voicings and progressions to highlight or accent his story telling. It's a bit of a breath of fresh air from the same old 3 or 4 chords that seem to satisfy the pop world. Hope you enjoyed it and managed to get something out of my clumsy attempts to make sense of it :D
Ren the welsh bard ❤
BEST! Thanks
You're welcome.
Thank you
That Guitar sounds beautiful :)
Sure does 😊
Thank you for the lesson. Is it a Baroque style? You are a great teacher. You broke down the 4/4 and the fourth wall 😉💛💜💛
Haha thank you. Could be Baroque. I really don’t know but thanks for the pointer I shall investigate further.
thanks man
You’re welcome hope you found it useful.
❤❤❤
He said John Frusciante is an influence. I can hear it at times (Niandra/Cali era)
The very end of the intro could almost be lifted directly from Road Trippin.
FYI the link in your video description is broken, you can't get the tab from there
Thanks. I found the right link and updated the description. Cheers for pointing it out, I'd never have noticed.
I thought you said fart less 😂❤❤🎉
John frusante
Why does the camera have to be so far out, its a guitar tutorial all we need to see is your hands and the guitar close up
I get your point and agree to an extent, it's just I don't like headless guitarists. I do explain everything I'm doing but yeah I get it and am trying to get clearer shots in my newer videos. Thanks for checking it out, sorry if it didn't help you that much.
Ask him in comments @renplaysmusic who his influences are or watch his old band the big push on TH-cam hes really good on bass too thanks for this ive seen a breakdown in standard tuning but i knew it was drop D anyway thanks again for this vid im grabbing my acoustic 👍👌rock on🤘
Thanks John, Since I did this I've delved a lot deeper. For guitar he loves John Fruciante and Hendrix. He was a big fan of the Police which I think you can hear in a lot of his vocals, but also in his playing. His street performances with the big push and others plus the tales show a really diverse range of styles and influences. This guy listens to a lot of different music and absorbs it all. Thanks for watching, I hope it helps and you have fun learning it.🎸🤘
@@fret-less definitely very entertaining and informative 👍 I'm also into diverse multi genres. Cheers
@@JohnChearman Good music isn't limited by genre or style 👍
