    Did you put the same SSP burrs from your other grinder in the DF64, got rid of the Caedo? (got the Unimodals?)

  • @harrydog6795
    @harrydog6795 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello Joe, do you have the stock De-Clumper in the DF64? What I found with mine is the grinder holds 1.5g to 1.7g if the you are able to use the bellows. Only way to check how much is left in yours is to pull it apart and clean it out to see how much old grind or stale coffee is left. Good news is a softer silicone De-Clumper allows the chamber to clear much easier. So far 2 different versions work great for clearing the coffee and not so good for dealing with the static, working on a Stainless Steal liner for the chute to correct this. If you remove the stock De-Clumper to test put in a cardboard spacer so the screws do not go into the grind chamber as they can touch the burr wipers (Don't know the correct name of these).

      @JoeyVaracalli  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I have the silicone de clumped it’s really amazing. Also I have the ssp high uniformity

      @@JoeyVaracalli For me the stock de-clumper (Latest silicone version) was a problem. Creating my own has improved the shot substantially. I still have the stock burrs in but will soon be testing the SSP HU (ESP) version. So far I prefer my Eureka over the DF64. Maybe the SSP burrs will change that.

    • @JoeyVaracalli
      @JoeyVaracalli  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@harrydog6795 yeah I much prefer the ssp burrs df64 then I did my eureka but they really are totally different styles of grinders. You really shouldn’t use a hopper fed like a single doser and vice versa

    • @harrydog6795
      @harrydog6795 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoeyVaracalli Interesting, have you removed the left over grinds in the DF64 to see how much you are retaining and re-grinding or exchanging from shot to shot? Mine is terrible when using the stock de-clumper and this is sold as a single dose grinder. It would be nice to see your results.

      @@harrydog6795 yeah I have opened it up after grinding I have found virtually zero coffee left just some dust really nothing even close to 1 gram

    How do you like the DF64 as compared to the Sette? I have the Sette and was wondering if the DF64 would be a complimentary addition.

    • @JoeyVaracalli
      @JoeyVaracalli  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a match made in heaven in my opinion. It’s beautiful to have a single doser paired with a grind by weight grinder not to mention you can taste the differences when you want between conical and flat

    Older coffee also needs to be ground a lot finer, it might have been older, not so fresh roasted. I had a pretty pricey Gesha coffee where it wouldn't brew as espresso no matter how fine I went, it also had a very strange flavour that smells and tasted really strong and kinda artificial to me, I couldn't identify it as like a fruit note or anything either. It was just a new weird taste.
    Pretty sure it's flavoured :O
    Luckily I got a deal on it because if I paid what they usually sell for I probably would be disappointed definitely interesting to try once, I'm wondering if all Geshas are similar and strongly flavoured (and weird) I'm guessing it's not usually the case since people seem to like those coffees.
    If it's a fast flowing coffee / too coarse you REALLY gotta slow the flow, I think it turns out good that way, still gotta aim for like 30g in 30 seconds ideally. It's not going to hit even 1 bar most likely so not an 'espresso' but won't be over extracted and hopefully not under extracted either.

    • @JoeyVaracalli
      @JoeyVaracalli  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it was very dark plus I’m guessing the coffee was old like you mentioned. It definitely had some odd flavors. My guess is it had to do mostly with the barrel aging

      @@JoeyVaracalli I just thought of something else mine was also anaerobic processed which is basically where they ferment the coffee in an controlled environment using specific bacteria I believe for the fermentation so it may actually be a similar chemical process to being put through an animal's digestive tract. It could be that process simulates the process without the potential animal cruelty.
