I didn't know that Tim was killed in a crash. I must've saw him run the beginning of the season in 93-94 at Chandler in What a Tomato, then I quit following the drag boats. RIP Team. Lots a good video you have of this older stuff. Thanks.
Tim was one of the most positive forces in boating ever. He pushed the speed barrier in alcohol blown boats, and he went toe to toe with world champs like jerry tolliver and others. He should have a bigger fanbase than he does and its a damn shame people dont know that the mission possible crew was more than a team. They were family. And Tim was family. Number 34 goes beyond one generation.
@@henrybunn3656 might be. Used to be Blue with graphics. Had a Pontiac with a dual tunnel ram if its the same boat I’m thinking of. Had a record on the water if I remember correctly. Used to run at firebird, puddingstone, Irvine. All the old places. My dad was a mechanic on the crew and friends with the owner at the time. He lived a block over from us. It was a fast neighborhood. Growing up just down the street our friend Kenny built pro mods and worked for Toms Differentials. Had a wicked turbo top end he had in a few cars. A wicked white stingray, a 68 Camaro, and a 57 Chevy.
I have a friend of mine who still has one of them lower doolies from back in the day looking just as good as it did then and hell yeah I remember that boat who couldn't

@@daveallen6369 his boat was Shot In The Dark #282, Mission Impossible was owned by someone else and Tim was the driver. All racers have some air in a tank. What killed Tim was they had trouble finding his canopy because a cable stayed connected to his motor hindering it to break free and pop up to surface.
Kathy I know this is a long shot, because I only know what my dad had told me and I know he is really emotional whenever he talks about this, but he was part of the crew for the team during the Mission Possible days, and I know Tim meant a lot to him. I'm just wondering if it would be possible to connect you two after all of these years? He has so many VHS tapes of Tim kicking butt and he held him in such amazing regard. I also raced for years with the number 34 in his honor because he was such an amazing inspiration to me
Very well said! ...and I wanted to add Mike Boyce (Don's long-time crew chief) to your comment, as well. He taught me A LOT of really important stuff about race engines, the control systems, etc. etc. when he was the crew chief on a promod car I worked on (and I knew him prior to that when he tuned an alcohol funny car and I was doing clutch in top alcohol dragster, we were at a lot of the same races, etc.) I still feel VERY fortunate I was able to get to know and be taught by such a brilliant, humble and all-around amazing guy... AND getting to see and spend a good amount of time, one last time over the weekend at a (pavement) race in May of 2020.. Anyway, he had lots of great stories about Don and their career together...and I feel I can safely say that he had an immense amount of care and respect for Don... (huge understatement, but I don't want to overshare about personal stuff that I don't feel it's my place to say about people) ..and it's obviously a public comment, lol, but yeah..just wanted to share a teny-tiny bit about some memories that I had relating to your comment. 😊 Major respect to ALL those who are and are not still w/ us...those whom live/lived life to the fullest, were good to those around them and motivating to those around them. :-) --- Stay safe out there everyone, enjoy life, get out to a race, smell some nitro & methanol and take it all in! Er;mshars were really good guys.. Part of drag boat racing makes you just belly up to the fact that you are going to lose friends is all... The list is longer than one would like to know about ... Think Jim died of heart attack..
I was racing late 80's early 90's.. did not get much up to the pro pit area except to see Amos (was turing Rons fuel boat).. Your dad must know his stuff... I bought and ran Mondo's old Kurtis 500 "Liquid Assets"
@@randalljames1 are you talking about amos steerly i dont think i spelled his last name right. i know amos too. my dad started helping don first then worked for jim, he also helped the varners with caught in the act,
Satterlee.. and yep, Kyle Walker, Super Dave, Lou Osman, maybe Clinton? and a few others.. want to go fast on fuel, you went to Amos.. sure miss the guy... Varners were good.. Guys that got me in to boats were the Newtons (Fair Warning)
@@randalljames1 yeah Amos was a tuner on rapid package when Gary Kincaid drove it. My dad painted the boat and did the prop shafts. My dad repaired the fiberglass on the hull when we got it from Charlie fagen
Let's see. We'll put the biggest motor in the smallest boat and see what happens...... this has got to be the dumbest sport of all ! Hell, golf is smarter than this...
You must be fun at parties. How about: don't speak on things you know nothing about? Better to keep your mouth shut and be considered a fool rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Wow! Not sure if yer still on here, but you my friend do not get IT at all!!!! Go back to teaching liberal arts at a fucking liberal AF College!! We will keep building Cool Shit! Why are you even on this page?? You should be painting Gay Parade props!
