There is no version that comes as close to this one in capturing the essence of the novel and this actress personifies Lizzie’s wit and intelligence as well as her warmth.

Anything is better than Keira Knightly as Elizabeth Bennet. Yeek! Still can't get over her giggling like a meniac when she sees Darcy for the first time. Even this Darcy is better than 2005's Mathew's performance. He looked way awkward and absurd. Not good looking either.

Such a stunning scene - and perhaps captures the moment Mr. Darcy is affected by Elizabeth's charms.

      On a similar note,
I just recently heard this song once more and realized when I saw his face how she's much like a siren in that moment😂
Not necessarily bad since she is entirely morally good, when compared to the sirens of some ol' stories.

"Ash Grove" is my favorite song after I see the movie Pride and Prejudice. The song describes the beautiful English countryside with a little sadness at the end.

This reminds me, I really want to learn this song, and the piano chords that she is playing!!! Does anyone here have an inkling of where I may find the sheet music.
And if someone says a vague answer such as, "Have you tried the internet?..."
I will simply chuckle, and then continue searching music stores and sheet music websites.
The answer I do seek is any specific music stores or sheet music websites, etc.

What I love about comparing the different versions of the story in cinema and television is that they tell as much about the director's vision and priorities as they do about the beauty ideals and styles of the time at which they were made. Because while all of them aim to represent either the 1790s or the 1810s as accurately as possible, there's always a bit of 40s, 50s, 60s, 80s, 90s and 00s shining through.
In this one, just look at her facial shape (typical beauty ideal of the 80s), the subtle light lipstick, the slightly different hairstyles as compared to other versions (more focus on locks - also typically 80s. Accurate 1810s styles usually had hair in buns).

"Her performance was pleasing, though by no means capital. After a song or two, and before she could reply to the entreaties of several that she would sing again..." It is a pity that Elizabeth never had a governess, or a tutor, or a master who could give her proper music lessons. I am confident that if she had one, her performance would be both pleasing and capital.

I love this mini series better than the 1995 version although I love both versions with this one having a slight edge over the other. This piano scene is also one of my favorites which I believe that Mr. Darcy first fell in love with Elizabeth.:-) What a moment! Her beautiful singing voice cannot help but make Mr. Darcy attracted to her even more.

This is the first adaptation of the novel I ever saw--I liked it so much, I got the book out of the local library, and had finished it well before the miniseries concluded.
I know why people prefer Colin Firth's Darcy. He's cuddlier. But that's why I don't think so much of him. Nothing against Firth, but it's hard to respect Lizzie's perceptiveness about Darcy when he's gazing at her with embarrassed puppydog eyes. Rintoul's Darcy is outwardly cool, composed. He does not look like a man in love. But he keeps looking. Much easier to understand how she might misjudge him, until he shows through deeds what he could not through words.
P&P is slotted as a romance--wrong. It's social satire. Comedy of manners. The romantic fantasy, sells it. Austen astutely assessed her audience, and so was able to make many points about the world around her, while still making her satiric arrows strike home.
This is better satire than the plusher 90's adaptation, where Lizzie seems far too self-possessed to be fooled by anyone, and Darcy is more of an overgrown lovestruck schoolboy. The 1980 sticks to Austen much better, which is why I like it more. Still, neither is 100% faithful.

I feel like his performance is much like Darcy himself… I hated it when I first saw it, but the more I come back to these clips and this version (because I absolutely love this Lizzie), the more I like him. You can see everything going on in his head through his eyes. It helps that we know the story, of course. I still think he is way too wooden but I like it much more than I did several years ago - especially the transformation scenes.
