He is standing up for the people of Manchester maybe more people should try to do that and not just follow whatever boris says. Boris offers 60 million Andy rejects it then boris takes 60 million off the table and gives Manchester 22 million. This is dirty politics. Boris and is incompetent government should stop playing games with peoples lives .
@Jackie Adam Because it was below the bare minimum (£65mil) of what Greater Manchester needed to properly support itself, and we needed much more than the bare minimum (I believe £90mil was the original proposal, with the possibility of going lower but not past the bare minimum). £22mil is a severe slap in the face. A petty political move that will prove costly when you compare it to Lancashires' deal which was £43 million and they have roughly HALF the population of Manchester.
@Jackie Adam He wanted 65 million at least, the government instead of continuing to negotiate went around him and imposed the restrictions without his authorisation giving Manchester £22 million instead.
@Jackie Adam because Andy went into the talks asking for 75m as enough for committing to the promises he made to the poorer parts of his district. Boris negotiated him down to 65m which would be an absolute necessity and then Boris pushed and pushed and pushed for 60mil which is why Andy said they were penny pinching. The 60mil deal is not off the table according to other news outlets but I don’t believe any of their garbage anymore. Seeing what the guardian posts, pure, unadulterated footage of Andy’s reaction is nice because at least there’s one outlet that isn’t skewing EVERYTHING in Boris’ favour. Andy quite rightly deserves the 65m he asked for and Boris’ refusal to throw on 5mil which is nothing when you’re talking about such high amounts is bitterly disgusting
He failed to become Labour leader twice by lying to his own supports, refusing to oppose welfare cuts, privatising an NHS hospital, and covering up child abuse.
lol ya right, by the time they've spent 15k on a toilet seat and 20k on a hammer the people will see £1.50 to be spent on a man doing roadworks sitting in his van all day
@Hannah Dyson I agree, it is obvious that some people in Manchester don't want to follow the tier 3 social distancing rules, there was a rise in cases yesterday. If i was Boris I would not be giving Manchester any more money on top of the £61 million, that they have already been given, i would just let Manchester descend into COVID chaos.
Why I’ll never vote Labour, free money for all, I bet if the government offered 70 million they’d want 80, offered 80 they’d want 90. Political point scoring from a Labour Party 2 bit mayor. Shame on you.
Maybe Burnham should of focused on enforcing the rules over the summer then he wouldn't have such a high infection rate now. We all have to be truthful with ourselves. Even in my area i watched constant rule breaking for months and we now have a high number. That is not the fault of the government. These council areas are trying to deflect the blame for their own failings.
