Cosmetic surgery in those days was very crude and ineffective compared to today. Pretty much their only solution for loose skin and blemishes associated with aging was "Uhh we'll just stretch it out to remove the wrinkles" and (surprise surprise) it made her face unnatural and tight looking.
She was 81..!! too much short?? Good for her that she left that quickly. Being old sucks..being slow and not being able to do all your ADL’s It’s terrible!! I am so So happy to see how she made of this surgery a joke. She was wonderful

I read all of her books, watched her on all of her different shows and tuned in every time she was on QVC - just because I dearly loved her and she always made me laugh. My late mother and I would watch her comedy monologues and laugh til we cried because she was so genuine and honest. She spoke aloud what we were thinking but didn't say. The world is a bit colder now without her.
Do you know there is a plastic surgeon in every major city in the USA? It's definitely not because celebrities are going to Spokane, Washington for a face lift, it's because "normal" people want to look good too. And especially at this point without Google, people needed to really know what they were about to do. Also, the audience is doing what they're supposed to do, sitting there and listening. It's not supposed to sound like a school assembly like on Ellen or Wendy Williams.

I agree. It is baffling why the audience is applauding her insecurity driven decision to keep having all of these plastic surgery procedures. And what is sad is a portion of her talk show is dedicated to this. Instead of applauding her, someone should've suggested she get therapy and help. It's a shame she never learned to just lover herself as is. And now she has rubbed off on her daughter who looks so unnatural now at age 54 with all the procedures she has done to her pretty face.

For whatever reason, Joan didn't feel pretty but these surgical procedures made her feel pretty, it's her body and mind and it's not our place to judge!
Some things did make her look from ok to really good. She looked fabulous for a long time. Ageing catches up though and plastic surgery just can do so much. She just started putting a lot of filler In her face after 2000 and had cheek implants which made her look hella different. She looked really fresh in the early 2000s though with her short hair cut. Looked like a sexy grandma. Than she just put way more filler in her face because she was getting way saggier skin. In the end you can't say she looked bad for an 81 year old, fabulous until the end.

Its also important to let everyone know the importance of having healthy self-esteem so that the feelings of needing to constantly "fix" oneself is more important than looking a certain way. Its not judgmental to learn from people who were doing surgery to such a destructive level that there is a way to live happily without going under the knife over and over.
They really should refer their clients to a psychiatrist when it's clear that body image is the problem. Dolly Parton is another example. Of course they'd rather make millions from doing the surgery.
I love 90s talk shows too! I have a few local gems with big stars like Bea Arthur (1995), Lauren Bacall (1994) and Martha Stewart! A really good one is also Psychic Predictions from 1992 - a real gas. If you get a chance, check 'em out!
