40 oz to Freedom, Saw Red feat. Gwen Stefani, Rivers of Babylon, April 29th, 1992, Date Rape. So many great songs, in such a short time. RIP Bradley Nowell!
He wrote this song when he was 16 so he thought he was a night in shining armor. At the end of “Robbin’ the Hood” they do this in three parts on scratching because they didn’t have the music written
I liked these guys they were one of the first to blend rock ,reggae, pop,and ska, together and be a commercial success. I love me some horns.I used to listen to a N.Y.C. hardcore punk skater blended band Murphy's Law and they used a lot of horns. I remember when they first came out my cable provider at the time had a karaoke channel and my daughter was a baby and I used to hold her and away to Santeria with her and she would babble back but we did it for almost a year I thought she would never remember but it came on while on vacation a few years ago and she looked at me and she couldn't remember everything but she said Dad wants didn't you sing and dance with me to this song. More proof that if it's a traumatic or happy event kids will remember stuff that happens to them at a young age. You can ruin them young.Later on our song was 3 little birds by Bob Marley she still sings the back up girls. Her nickname now is little bird she's 16 now and has a custom Philly eagles Jersey number 3 and little bird on the back. You supposed to protect your children and all there memories should be happy ones.Im her daddy she's going to model all the men in her life after me the least I could do is give her a safe happy childhood and show her how a real man treats his wife and kids. So when she marries a boy someday if she finds a man like daddy he'll never hit her treat her bad and together they will raise my grandkids into well adjusted teens. After that you can only hope.
Sublime rocks! Great group. Their songs "What I Got," "Caress Me Down," and "Santeria" are great! You should react to them and to the group No Doubt if you like Sublime. Their songs "Spiderwebs," "Excuse me mister," "just a girl," "the climb," "sixteen," "don't speak," "Sunday morning," "tragic kingdom," "trapped in a box," "no hate 1995," "new," and "bathwater" are so fun!
IM a South Central 80's Girl!! My sisters and i were right there when "Sublime filmed" the very first scene in the house in the EASTCOAST CRIPS" I NEVER realized the impact they put on us till this day... The nostalgia of this day is EPIC Bless you IMMENSELY! LOVE you ALWAYS SUBLIME!!!! xoxox
I like your take on the words. The part of the song "I gave her all that I have to give, but she still wouldn't take it." meant something different to me as a kid when I first listened to Sublime than it does now. Same for the line "I'm gonna make it hard to live." -- now I understand that his need to take revenge on her dad or somehow set the world right and be her hero was not actually helpful or what she needed out of him. When I was younger I thought this was directed at her Dad, now I understand it was a self-insight line about what his behavior would do to her, how he should be the one helping to make good and positive decisions, but he isn't.
RIGHT!!!! whole song hit different now that im grown with kids..I will NEVER forget the day they recorded the house scene on my childhood home street, That day was Epic af. Sublime is a Dope ass Group.....
The man in the gray suit wearing the straw hat who the protagonist bumps into during his flight from the convenience store is Angelo Moore from Fishbone. And the older clerk chasing the protagonist out of the store is Mike Watt from The Minutemen and Firehose.
I know I'm a year late, but Sublime played a lot of music that sounded fun and silly. They talked about some real stuff, and most people I know that listen to them straight up missed it. Love them. Much love woman
I first found out about Sublime when I lived in Califonia during the late 90's. Amazeing band...then the lead singer OD'd. they could of been brilliant and done so much. V sad
So you popped up and I wanted to clear this up. Living in places like Juarez or Tijuana this is a fact of life. That is why he wanted to take her to America, to get her out of the life, and away from the dark side of our culture. In parts of rural Mexico, and in the narco culture this kind of thing is so common as to not be seen as socially wrong anymore. Sublime was very good at exposing this life to the light, it's too bad they never got farther.
Great reaction India! Thanks for you explaining the songs message! I sometimes look at the video, hear the beat but don’t pay attention to the lyrics!!
Im glad you was able to see that sometimes that is how things really are. Even people that grew up or live their lives in turmoil at least some see it for what it really is. Doesnt really help their situation much because they still continue to do things the wrong way
Love Sublime, next should be Smoke Two Joints, Doin Time, Pawn Shop, Date Rape & since you like Sublime. You should check out Long Beach Dub Allstars song Trailer Ras. Please do a reaction to Hed Pe, metal, punk mixed with hip hop elements & sometimes reggae. Songs Bartender, Blackout, Ground, Suffa, Renegade, Here and Now(political song). Thx & keep the great reactions coming 👊
Great record. More good ones on this album. Did you know Sublime is from Long Beach, Ca??? They cut this fecoed at least 20 maybe 25 yrs ago and the singer OD’d and never saw the sucess.
"A girl child ain't safe in a family of men. But I never thought I'd have to fight in my own house. She let out her breath. I loves Harpo, she say. God knows I do. But I'll kill him dead before I let him beat me.” ― Alice Walker, The Color Purple
BLESS YOU IMMENSELY! I NEVER in my life thought i would be able to backtrack to a piece of my childhood and FULLY Appreciate and understand how far i have gotten in life... "SUBLIME filmed" the house scene in my childhood neighborhood... (EASTCOAST CRIPS 58TH PLACE and Inskeep South Central Ca.) MY sisters and i were all there... SUBLIME is/was will always be a DOPE ass part of our lives... THEY taught US soo much in the making of this video (the house scene) that I NEVER knew till this day. The nostalgia HIT HARD and sharp since i laid my beloved Mother too rest 2 years ago. I don't mean to be overbearing! Just on the web looking at things too keep me grounded in the moment. Your comment to MY childhood band is Really uplifting me right now!!!!
Love this song! The song is sad but that’s Sublime! They don’t care if it makes anyone feel uncomfortable. They sing about crazy shit, love or serious subject matter and they pretty much all sound like ska. I view the delivery of the song as kind of the point? You just wouldn’t expect the song to sound that way.
Do "Right Back" next please! Love your channel and you're a total babe haha, love seeing your reactions to all my favorite songs. Side note: Sucks, Sublime is dying out, a lot of people don't listen to them anymore, except for like Santeria and What I Got.
You completely missed the entire point of the song.... He gave her a way out BUT taught her that life is hard and it's up to HER how she wants to live it. He gave her all that he had to give but still she wouldn't take it... She came up in abuse and CHOSE to go back to it because it was easier and more familiar than the alternative even after knowing it could be different for her. It's a cautionary tale for people to recognize that they're not alone in their situations but they are the only ones able to make a change for themselves, just as much as they're also responsible for recognizing that about others and how the very act of staying with someone incompatible to you is what creates toxic environments and abuse to begin with.
Looks like you were reading lyrics to the wrong song at the end of the video*. Fun fact though; that guy at the store at the store who gets bumped into is Angelo Moore from the band fishbone.
I don't know how this happened but I came across this and you were talking about a being in an abused relationship for 24 years and I literally just left a 24-year long abusive relationship so I subscribe
I wonder how many of you knew her. She cry's every time she nuts, and the stories that come out when she's drunk. It's scary when a child tells you stories that hurt your soul.
It's sad that it happens. Let's just hope this isn't inspired by a real event that he witnessed during his life. I'm sorry about your past ive known some girls I was suspicious about there home life because of how they acted when in a healthy relationship she would cheat or break up with guys who treated her well. Years later I found out that she felt she didn't deserve to be treated well and sabotaged any relationship where she was treated well.it was sad I'm not going to tell you what happened in the end.
You went OMG way early on "In 2 more she'll be a whore" and "Family get paid". Hitting play for NEXT VERSE! She never caught this song is about a 12 year old and a GROWN ASSED MAN.
You're not in to deep, Wait til You hear "Doin Time" or "Same in the End" ;-) or "Waiting for My Ruca" **I think you've heard that** "Caress Me Down" dirty song but listen to the lyrics
It's so interesting how the music is so upbeat while the lyrics are so sad and dark.
adorkability That’s ska music for you
reminds me of pumped up kicks... everyone hears the beat but never really hears the darkness its about..
@@nunyafinbiz I've heard pumped up kicks at a junior high basketball game. I was like, this isn't good
@@jayfreese8686 I know its a dark song!! it amazes me that people get happy and dance to it lol
@@nunyafinbiz I've also heard I cant feel my face as well. I was like, do you even understand the lyrics?
As soon as the song ended I started singing “Down in Mississippi where the sun beats downs from the sky” 😂
😂😂😂
That album was the shit 👌🤘
True fan shit
Thats a real one coment 😂
They keeping it up they keeping it up but they never ask why!
Word
now that i'm an adult, i realize that when i was a teen, i was listening to this song..... the wrong way
Same.
Sublime-"Doin' Time" is a great song also.

fuckin aye right
I'm a South Bay ska guy from the 80s, it helps a lot to understand where Sublime is coming from.

The 'Bone is my favorite band of all time. Minutemen San Pedro represent!

Bradley always talked about what he saw on his songs, in a bold way too.
So you popped up and I wanted to clear this up. Living in places like Juarez or Tijuana this is a fact of life. You are exactly right
"Down from Mississippi where the sun beats down from the sky"
They give it up
Give it up
Give it up
And they never ask why
Daddy was a rolling rolling stone
He rolled away one day and he never came home
I laughed when you said I wonder if we will get the idea of the song... one verse in
Yes! Long Beach legends.

I would recommend April 26, 1992 from sublime. It’s about the LA riots.
The song name and date of the riot's beginning was April 29, 1992. Bradley sang April 26 in the song, which was a mistake during recording.
Rip Bradley
Pawn Shop and 40oz to Freedom please!
welcome to punk rock.
Have you visited a certain date yet? April 26 1992
