俄獅子（長唄）
「俄獅子」は長唄の「相生市史」をもじって、その歌詞も江戸吉原の様々な風物や情景に書き換えています。江戸末期から明治にかけての吉原では毎年九月に「仁和賀（ニワカ)」という行事が行われ、芸者や幇間（タイコモチ) が即興的な踊りなども見せたのですが、そうしたものの中から今も踊られている秀れた舞踊が幾つも出ています。その仁和賀を俄にもじり、吉原情緒をふんだんに描いた変化のある名曲です。
吉原仲の町の雰囲気・獅子舞・手古舞の踊りなどを見せる『俄獅子』は、普通芸者姿で踊りますが、素踊りとして踊る場合も多くあります。
江戸っ子気質である粋と洒落っ気に、吉原の廓情緒として『吉原俄』の雰囲気を、演者がいかに表現できるか、というところが、 この演目の見どころとなります。

The "Niwaka Lion" is based on the "Aioi Lion" but the verses have been changed to depict the various scenes of the Edo-Yoshiwara District. From the end of the Edo Era to the beginning of the Meiji Era, there was a tradition in the Yoshiwara District of holding a Niwaka Festival every September. Various Geisha and drummers would improvise songs and dances at this Niwaka Festival. Dances that were improvised at this festival that are　still performed today. It is said that the Fourth Generation Rokusaburo Kineya, who spent much of his time in the Yoshiwara District, wrote this song and changed the kanji for "Niwaka"to mean quick-change or impromtpu.
This is a classic piece rich with variety and is filled with the mood of the Yoshiwara District.
