Thank you so much!! This definitely helps beginners! I slow it down to .75 but it really helps. Hearing them speak slowly and pronouncing the words clearly. Thanks! I'm getting it!!
Excellent stuff. Really helping very well. Love the repetition which is key to learning. Without these learning resources and just relying on the school it would be a little boring to learn. These series make learning another language like Spanish quite easy-ish. You don't even have to learn all the conjugations, just the key ones like ser (permanent) and estar (temporary) and say about 10 of the other key verbs (los verbos). However, when you start to understand the pattern of the regular and irregular verbs that helps with natural conjugation and then learning some of the other harder conjugations on the way. You don't have to sit religiously and notoriously learning it. Using these verbs makes learning easier. Gracia por tu ayuda
You are completely right about learning key verbs. They are called the super 7 verbs and with those you can communicate a large percentage of ideas. They are querer, tener, hay, estar, ser, ir and gustar. There is another set too (the sweet 16) but those first 7 go a long way.
The idea is that by focusing instruction on comprehensible repetitions of these high-frequency verbs, beginning students can express a wide range of ideas. The first 7 verbs were identified by Terry Waltz, and Mike Peto expanded on that set to come up with these 16 high-frequency verbs: 1. está (is at a place / is feeling) 2. hay (there is / there are) 3. tiene (has) 4. es (is) 5. le gusta (likes / is pleasing to) 6. va (goes / is going) 7. quiere (wants) 8. sale de (leaves) 9. hace (makes / does) 10. se pone (becomes + emotion) 11. puede (can) 12. le da (gives him / her) 13. le dice (says to him / her) 14. sabe (knows) 15. vuelve (returns) 16. ve (sees)

@@SpanishPlayground This is exctly why we are watching and learning from it because it has a lot of repetition and we (my son and I) quiz each other to see if we can remember it from whence it came previously. Great stuff and really helping our Spanish. We are keeping up very well with it and better than the school's teaching.
There are so many tools available these days! You can definitely do this. Be sure to check out our community tab. We have free materials there that might be helpful. Good luck!
@@SpanishPlayground oh wow! Love to hear this. My husband is PR (fluent in Spanish) so it would be amazing to speak to him in another language as well ❤️ so happy this came into my feed! Bless you!
@@SpanishPlayground Thank you for the reply. How do I know what's intermediate or not? I saw one playlist labeled intermediate conversations but nothing else seems to have a label for difficulty
That playlist would be a good place to start. You're right that the others aren't labeled because many are for beginners (Easy Spanish Conversation playlist, for example). You could look at the Spanish verbs playlist and choose tenses/structures you would like to practice (future, si clauses, past subjunctive). Also, the other seasons of Buena gente might be of interest. We hope to have more advanced videos coming soon!
It's included with the listening activities for each episode. You can find them all on this page: www.spanishplayground.net/spanish-video-series-buena-gente/
Mateo says “Casi se me olvida” when he refers to the phone number. The verb seems to be conjugated in the 3rd person singular in the present indicative tense. Is this sentence an example of “accidental se”? Is the verb in the present indicative tense since he starts the sentence with “casi”? Also, would it also have been correct for him to say “Casi me olvido?” Thank you so much for the “Buena Gente” videos. I’ve watched them many times and I get something new out of them each time 😊.
Great questions! Yes, that is an example of the "accidental se". He's using the present tense the way you might saying "I'm almost forgetting..." Yes, it would definitely have been correct to use the present tense of olvidarse (or olvidar - for some speakers it's not reflexive). We're so glad you like Buena Gente! Thanks for your questions. 😊
There are subtitles and also a transcript on the video. We made a video in basic Spanish to show how to turn the subtitles on: th-cam.com/video/n-594Ztjk4w/w-d-xo.html Or, if it's easier to read an explanation, do this: click on cc to activate the subtitles and then click on settings (the gear icon at the bottom right) and choose the language. You can also open a transcript if that would be helpful. To open the transcript, go to the row below the title and click on the three horizontal dots ... (next to "save", at the far right). There is an option there to open the transcript and it opens on the upper right sidebar. You can toggle off the timestamps if you like. Let us know if you any questions!
